None of you commenting have any idea how this happened, but yet seem to "know" it was the 82 year olds fault because "they" don't ride in straight lines, ride against traffic, etc. You're all talking out of your butts. An old man got hit and was left to die on the road. That's all you know.

Here we go again. The Kobe kid murderer started out killing and decapitating cats, too.
When that same 14 year old kid stuck the other little boy's head to the gate of the school, everyone was shocked that some adult in Japanese society could actually do such a thing.
Imagine, in Japan! Some Japanese co-workers of mine at the time hinted that they thought a foreigner must have done it. One even went so far as to say, "Japan's slowly becoming like America." I had to educate him a little.
Of course, it later turned out to be a young teenager. To me, this was the beginning of the proliferation of Japan's grotesque murders.

Any eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Those who kill others (aside from involuntary manslaughter or a revenge killing for a family murder) should also be put to death.
If murder suspects are found to be guilty without any shred of doubt or extenuating circumstances - I'd like to see these murderers put to death the same way they killed their victims.
I'm sure those who've had their lives cut short by these sub-humans would agree to have them go through the horrors that they had to. Good on Japan to buck the international trend.

Kids have really fragile self-esteem. Parents need to spend more time instilling self-worth and a positive self-image into their kids. Love goes a long way, when it's genuinely felt.
Of course this girl didn't do this only because it said to on her blog. Probably got a lot garbage from other kids, which will probably come to light shortly.

I really liked the previous crane emblem - it was cool and had flair. The green paper plane emblem and the partial green hinomaru on the tail seems rather bland. Nothing about it says, "Japan".

I can't speak for Australian rice, but in California, I've rarely ever heard any of the Japanese there say that California rice tastes inferior to Japan's. They say it tastes just the same - and hell of a lot cheaper!
The whole 'taste' excuse is bull.
It really comes down to wanting to protect an industry that will disappear if the imported product is not blocked or marked up in price significantly. Japan wants to retain it's self-substance level in rice production - therefore must protect its rice farmers. That's it.
Posted in: To protect Japanese farmers, the government promised that imported rice will not go into Japanese direct consumption. Foreign rice, including California rice, will be used for secondary purposes like prepared food.

I like the idea of posting pix of the family and the two idiots. Japan used to have a very low crime rate because the "shame" that was brought upon the family was intense from the surrounding neighbors/community. (Of course a good economy and an equitable society helped, too).
These days, no one seems to know each other and there's no sense of community or collective guilt. This is why news like this will continue to grow.
Replacement controls for the loss of feeling "shame" by families/individuals must be implemented by the government/society if a low crime rate is to be maintained.

With Japan's impending labor shortage in the coming decades, it'll be in Japan Inc.'s best interest to fund maternity leave. Not only will this encourage career women to have kids, but also retain experienced employees. This is so common sense that it's amazing that the government hasn't mobilized policy in this direction, yet.
Posted in: It's so strange that many Japanese companies don't allow career-minded women to take leave from work, even if only for a few years.

Good or bad defense lawyers -> good riddance to bad rubbish. Name him, shame him, and execute him.

ASEAN has welcomed Myanmar into its organization. Shame on them for collaborating with this tyrannical junta. The whole purpose was to gain leverage to enact change in Myanmar
s treatment of its people, but ASEAN has hardly done anything about it for the last 10 years.Shame on them and for all the countries who have quickly forgotten and let slide the violent crackdown this last winter on its people. (This also goes for the last 16 years when Suu Kyi had the elections stolen from her and the people of Burma.)
When will countries of strength use their powers to enact change for "the good" of the people?! This can be such a "better" world. Where are the great leaders?!

With the move to small nuclear families in Japan, there are no longer grandmas & grandpas IN the house to help take care of the kid(s). Also, Japan doesn't have the tradition of having neighborhood kids or acquaintances babysit kid(s). This is HUGE.
If my wife and I were to have another kid, it'll be another five years of one of us always having to be around to take care of him/her.
This means my wife having to quit her job (NO maternity leave/pay), thus becoming one income family again. It's very difficult to get by (no Prada/LV bags in our house), just basic necessities.
If we both want to work, then that means nursery school, but once again, that's more money spent. Just to add, men in Japan help very little in raising kids, so women know the hardships they'll face if they have another kid.
There isn't a lot of financial help/paternity leave/daycare center availability being set up by the government either.
This ALL adds up to less kids.

Leave them alone. Don
t need to separate the kids from their mothers. Let them choose their own lifestyle (other than any domestic violence).
