I like not having to stand in line and can just take a number, sit, and go to the window when my numbers called. In the meantime I read or watch TV.
My saving account does not get charged $4 for having less than 100,000 yen (1,000 USD) in it at the end of every month.
I like how I can leave 1 yen in my account and come back from overseas after a few years and that account will still be there with $1 yen in it.
I like how my bank book is automatically updated by the ATM machine each time I use it rather than me having to write in my transactions by hand.
I like getting a human on the line right away without having to deal with a computerized menu and having to press a bunch of numbers to get to my order of business.

Yeah, America is still quite prudish. Hell, Go-Onger (the children's Power Ranger show in Japan) had Oikawa Nao, the ex-porn star, play the bad girl "Kegareshia". Her outfit allowed for ample cleavege to be shown for the parents to enjoy, too.

I definitely used to see more garbage cans before the sarin attacks. There also used to be more benches in the 80s before the homeless population started to increase dramatically.

There is no Domino's store that can deliver to your address. They do it all by post code. There's a Pizza Hut that will deliver to the house 10 meters to the right of mine, but not to me because my post code is different. Thats just traditional great Japanese customer service.
> Papa-John in the US was the same way unfortunately, either by zip-codes or boundaries drawn on a map, so this isn't limited to "Japanese customer service".
I agree with islandview that it's absurd that it's taken an American company over 10 years (the time period from when many companies have developed their own websites) to develop an English version of their website here in Japan.

I find this kind of crime much less distasteful than the child neglect/abuse cases that result in deaths or serious injuries. I doubt any of these girls were forced into this.

I think the Pacific coastline of Chiba is one of the best places in Kanto to live and for vacationing. The surfing is pretty good for Japan, especially the further south you go, and a hell of a lot less crowded than Shonan. I'm glad Chiba is considered "dasai" by so many Tokyoites.

You'll be able to feel textures and smell things in the movies.

I love going to the cinema before/after eating out at a restaurant. Hope it's always an available option.
The future will have coffee shops/restaurants with enclosed booths that allow for a 3D surround-sound experience with each booth choosing whatever movie they want to watch. The enclosed booth with massage chairs will have a tall rounded screen which makes you feel like you're "in" the movie.
People on trains will be able to put on their "movie glasses" and watch movies where it blocks out all distracting surrounding light/noise. The glasses will be programmed to beep a few minutes before arriving at your station.

I think they forgot to mention the most obvious tower - Tokyo Tower. When completed in 1958, the economy didn't tank. In fact, it continued on its historic rise for the next 30 years.

It may not have been an English issue as much as it was about being more assertive and pro-active in engaging others. Perhaps he should have stepped up and initiated a conversation with somebody standing nearby. This is something many Japanese are poor at and it showed here.

The last time they raised the consumption tax ('98), the economy took a big nosedive. But the survival of so many of government services (retirement, health care etc.) depend on more income.
Agree with thepro, they've got quit wasting what they're getting in conjunction or it's all for nothing.

Good on them for recycling. That's a start. One other activity I'd like to see them do is hand out their clothes to the homeless (or shelters or churches).
My old clothes end up in plastic bags every once in awhile and I leave them with a homeless person on my way to and back from work, which I see daily.

> Grafton at 07:21 AM JST - 16th June Think of your home counties and ask how you would feel, how your fellow countrymen would feel if a group of Japanese film makers did something of this kind there? >
I do think about my home country and I've seen documentaries questioning where, why, and how we get our food. That's the point -> ****I've been allowed to see them****. There's no necessity for foreign filmmakers to bring light to these issues since we explore them ourselves and we get to make up our own minds.

It wasn't just that the guy wouldn't stop using his cell, the guy was constantly talking smack back. He was probably being a real jerk and saying some insulting things. If some dude was cussing me out, just for asking him to follow the rules, I'd probably want to knock him out, too.

Because it takes a man with no strength or courage to prey on those who are "weaker". Men in Japan are getting weaker both mentally and physically and we'll see incidents like these increase.
