    This is pretty weird.

Simple. Make creating, possession and distributing/sharing of child porn a heavily penalized crime.

    Japan. No contest.

Speaking of Amtrak...we arrived 6 hours late from San Diego to Denver. Missed the New Year's countdown by an hour. Got stuck in the middle of the desert for 6 hours due to freezing temperatures.

That's good but forcing convenience stores to ask if you want a plastic bag only if you buy two or three items would pretty much save the planet. We wouldn't have so much to have to throw away if they did. As it is now, customers have to make the effort to tell the clerks we don't need a plastic bag for my plastic wrapped banana. They even tried to plastic bag my newspaper yesterday!

Judging a group by the worst of them does nobody justice. I don't believe Islam is inherently violent, it just has a disproportionate amount of zealots. >

That's just the problem. The majority of non-fanatical muslims don't express their condemnation against their more violent and intolerant bretheren. They remain conspicuously silent.

These "few" extremists, which I don't think are so few, create a very negative image to the rest of the world about their supposedly tolerant religion. Muslims speak up if you don't condone this type of close-mindedness.

Otherwise, be prepared to be seen as not being able to co-exist in Western countries by others where freedom of expression and discourse (including pictures/drawings) are fundamental rights.

It's not what you do, but how well you do it. Many teachers are quite serious and professional about their approach to teaching English conversation here.

Some aren't and it seems that the reputation of the whole industry has been downgraded as such. Stereotypical comments about any industry are better left ignored.

If people in this or any industry work hard and are doing a good job, then that's a reason to be proud. There's no shame in that.

Too many armchair parent quarterbacks here with 20/20 hindsight. Kids at times will jump on beds even when you tell them not to, even for a little bit. Remember the kid was still just 4 years old and most likely quite mischivous.

The JT article didn't mention that the driver, after asking if she was all right, punched her in the face then took the bag. A punched-up face was her only injury, so the car must not have hit her hard at all. Gotta love Saitama.

She looks hot! She only "looks old" because she's standing next to an 8 year old.

This is how JT should be everyday! Hot chicks (and an occasional dude for the ladies) and some news about the going-ons on these islands.

This chick is zoing! Should be the poster girl for Japan's tourism organizations. I'd visit.

What I'd like to know is how will this affect Japan? Obviously not in a positive way, but how much of a blow will it be to us here?

I also think those team sports that already have large wealthy pro leagues or world tournaments i.e. soccer, baseball, basketball are proving to be unpopular in the Olympics since a lot of media attention is paid to them EVERY year.

The more popular sports i.e. track and field, swimming etc. tend have a bigger focus on individual athletes and less media exposure outside of the Olympic years.

I think one of the problems that they had with baseball previously were the mediocre teams that the US kept fielding.

The US were supposed to help spearhead the popularity of the sport for the Olympics, but the top MLB players kept staying home.

Didn't the Olympic committee feel that the large number of players per team wasn't worth having considering its low popularity in the Olympics?

Seems like a lot of these stories have been coming from Nishiyodogawa lately. Working class area with lots of factories. I wonder if this is a former buraku area.

Go with Osaka Governor's idea of locating them to Kansai International Airport. I like Ajipon2's idea of moving them to Huis Ten Buis, too. Give the Okinawan's a break for once. Shikoku could use some more people and money, too. Spread the pain as well as the benefits around a bit more.

I don't know why they need to rebuild the Hankyu Dept. store. They've spent the last few years renovating the place. Why rebuild it after going through all that. The new facade looks great by the way.

Hopefully, these "Knowledge Capital" and "greenery" centers don't become little visited white elephant projects.

I'd really like to see them open a bunch of outdoor restaurant/cafes next to a LARGE green grassy park adjacent to them.
