Tragic. But more times than not...avoidable.

Red lights have absolutely NO MEANING in this country! So much so that the green lights are delayed 2-3 seconds before activating to account for the "red light runners." And the government has allowed this conditioned response to develop due to the complete complacency of the "law" enforcement officials.
Truly a bass ackwards country.

Those of us that have lived in Japan long enough will agree...there's nothing more fragile than the ego or non-ego a j-man. He did what he felt he had to do to. In his puny emotionally inept mind, he had no other choice.
Tragic but all too common.

To come at this question from another angle...
How about learning English, or any other secondary language, just for the sake of learning? The process of learning a language itself is very beneficial to brain development particularly from infancy to aholescence. Much like learning mathematics is.
Simply put...It is great exercise for cognitive development.

The meaning and origin of the word "de facto" was not the problem. It was the usage of it in the article that I was questioning. And in Canada, "de facto" is never used in this context.
S
Moderator: Readers, please do not get bogged down on the term "de facto." Please focus your comments on the story.

What the hell is a "de facto" husband? Is that the Japanese way of saying "common law" husband? Or the fact that he is her "real" husband but he is never around?
I also have a 2 year old daughter and reading stories like these definitely bring out some strong emotions. To say the least.

This "drill" has about as much reality as the people putting on those stupid vests during a "real" emergency would.
It's almost as bad as the "fire drills" that they have in schools. All pre-planned down to the last millisecond. Nothing like living in a dreamworld.
