With the narrowness of the roads and the lack of awareness of others, the road is a dangerous place to ride your bike. No thanks, I'll stay on the sidewalks.
Posted in: Road traffic laws in Europe and the United States are simple, whereas in Japan pedestrians are always exposed to the risks of bicycles bumping into them from all directions...It is time for us to go back to the original point of the road traffic law, where bicycles and cars share the road.

It's funny to me how in this ancient sport, which places such importance on maintaining it's traditional ways, once a muslim comes in suddenly nobody gets to eat pork anymore.
“We have been using more chicken since Osunaarashi joined,” sounds to me like the trainer is trying to play it down a bit, but unless they are are making the Egyptian guy's nabe seperately nobody gets to eat pork.
What's next, ovo-lactarian wrestlers? Imo, if you can't eat the nabe, get out of the stable.

That's not true at all. I've been home many times and not once was there somebody waiting at the airport to "get me." It's rather ridiculous to suggest that.
Maybe if I started working in the U.S. again somebody would notice me, but "stepping foot on U.S. soil" is no problem.

I've never filed a US tax return in the 12 years I've been in Japan. What is the IRS going to do about it, I wonder?

Hunting non-endangered animals is ok. Sea Shephard fanatics should all be thrown in jail.

There are too dang many of them. You can't throw a stone around here with hitting a hair salon or barber shop.

It'll be a sad day if the Japanese ever give up whaling because of the all the hand-wringing crybabies of the world. It's hunting, the most natural thing in the world. The idea that there is something wrong with hunting is what happens when a majority of people become urban instead of rural, at least in first world countries. There are minkes o'plenty in the Antarctic. They certainly should support 500 a year, which is about what has been taken yearly for quite a while now. Whale meat is healthy. The whale sanctuary is a joke. It goes against the ICRW. The IWC is a joke and has completely turned against it's founding principle to "provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry". Japan's whaling is research.
Japan should leave the ICW immediately. I feel sure that Japan will never give in on this issue and that makes me happy. I wish the whalers all the best and hopefully the SS will be arrested or sent to swim with the fishes.

I'm gonna have to try some whale meat one of these days. See if it's any good.
Go whalers. Good hunting.

I never ride in the street. Only the expensive racing bikes ride in the street in this country town. Everyone rides on the sidewalks here. Also, I drink while riding, and use an umbrella when it's raining.
I'm always amazed at how many people on JT overreact and whine about cycling manners.

I can tell it's not porn, because I don't like it.
Very interesting Geoff, what exactly is your definition of porn?

I guess I stand corrected. I'd read it somewhere... IME, most Japanese I talk to about sumo aren't even aware he is half-Ukranian. Not surprising that not much attention is paid to his ancestry.

Yep, he was half Ukranian, but he kept it a secret when he was wrestling, because he feared being discriminated against.

Not child porn. Not a big deal. Not even an interesting photograph. Lots of of overreaction here.
Someone said something about the "psychological impact" of the boy hold the breats of a woman he doesn't know. LOL!!!!!! People these days will use any excuse to throw a fit of moral outrage.

It doesn't say what charges they were arrested on. I think I read in the Daily Yomiuri english version a couple of days ago, that they were only arrested on charges of weapons possession (baseball bats, are they illegal to own?) and another minor charge or two. They don't have enough to charge anybody with murder. I guess now they will use some 'enhanced interrogation techniques' to get their confessions.
