Correct, which merely endorses my point. They have the power to endorse commercial whaling, and have so far decided against it.

The point it endorses is that the IWC doesn't follow the very reason for it's existence. It has turned an anti-whaling organization. Which is why Japan should opt out of it.

Would you rather have Japan leave the IWC and go back to full commercial whaling with none of the catch limits that the IWC has?

    Yes, I would. Definitely.

    it's economically unsustainable

Oh, is it? how do you know, Cleo? it hasn't been commercially yet.

    But whaling is not sustainable

and such whaling programs would probably be sustainable.

    Well, which is it?

I'm pretty sure Antarctic minke whales are way more abundant than any species in Japan's waters, so I'm not sure what reasoning you used to arrive at the conclusion that whaling in Japan's coastal waters would be sustainable, but whaling in the Antarctic wouldn't be. There are lots of minke whales in the Antarctic. The lowest estimates puts them at about 380,000. Japan takes like 400 -500 a year.

Since then there has been no comprehensive assessment on anything and all the anti-whaling nation been shouting was "No more hunting** PERIOD** "

There wasn't even a constructive argument on why the commission had postponed this assessment.

Really, if you want a civilized discussion on this matter then wind back the clock and come back to the table to commit a resolution to the original reason for the establishment of the moratorium.

I agree completely, except that I don't think the anti-whalers will ever come back to the table. Therefore, instead of continuing to call for compromise I think Japan should quit wasting it's time and leave the IWC.

Requesting Australians to protect Japanese ships that are there to rape and pillage their waters is ridiculous.

It's called hunting, but that's typical of the emotional hyperbole in the anti-whaling camp.

Japan should just leave the IWC as they have zero spirit of compromise and will never agree to any amount of whaling, period. Total waste of time messing around with that group.

Not surprising at all from a country where homosexuality is illegal and having a bit of cannabis can get you the death penalty. You couldn't pay me to go that backwards country.

You really have to watch out for the old drivers. It's no joke. There are plenty of bad drivers in any age group, but the percentage increase when you get into the senior range.

Their main problem, though, isn't that they don't follow the rules or that they drive crazy, it's that they drive too slow.

Personally, I hate tv and the only time it gets turned on is when I'm not around and the mother-in-law turns it on. I believe tv is just bad for everyone in general.

We do play English education dvds for for the kids though and other things, like anime, in English. They are into a Benesse English dvd now and, of course, dad knows all the songs.

I personally have always preferred Nihon Kai (Sea of Japan) but I won't say where...

There are few nice beaches near here (Sea of Japan side). Some good snorkeling to be had, crystal clear water and lots of fish.

    Steve,

Ah ha. I think that's about what you should expect putting out sexist views like that. You are free to put them out, but you can expect many people to object to them. Not sure I'd call that bullying, or bashing.

Why should all workplaces be men only? It's the women bullying other women, I'm pretty sure.

And, why would a female workplace be a bakery only? Women aren't capable of any other work?

Really, you don't see that these are sexually discriminatory comments?

Be your own boos. piece of cake if in Japan. no bullies no idiots and bores and all responsibilty down to you, great fun, great challenge.

That is the best way, imo, but not everyone can do it. I work for myself and I never, ever get bullied (not that I would anyways). ;)

About 75% of Japanese people (I don't remember the exact figures off-hand) do not have the enzyme which is able to break down alcohol quickly and efficiently.

I think it's more like 1/3. I read it a long time ago in a National Geographic magazine and Wiki says the same thing.

"An estimated one out of three people in East Asian countries have an alcohol flush reaction, colloquially known as "Asian Glow", a condition where the body cannot break down ingested alcohol completely because it lacks the genetically coded enzyme that performs this function in the bodies of drinkers with "European" tolerance levels"

    Spidapig,

the crime rate averages are lower for US service personal than for Japanese citizens.

Not disputing you, but if you have a source for that, I'd like to see it.
