    I so enjoy living in a country where idiots with guns are not running around at night shooting people. But, I doubt Americans will ever wake up and institute any meaningful gun control measures. The denial runs too deep.

    I still haven't figured out how to upload an avatar for myself. Anybody want to help me out with that?

    @NetNinja

    You NEVER NEVER leave an 8 year old child alone.

    Both my parents worked when I was 8 and us neighborhood kids would run wild for 3 months straight during summer vacation. It was awesome and the freest time of my life.

    Must be the worst mother in the world....The boys in this country are neglected way too much by mothers.

    Maybe you could be a little less judgmental. Doesn't really seem like you know what you are talking about, but that isn't stopping you, is it? All the mothers I see are minding their kids pretty well. I would say the boys are doted on (spoiled a bit even), just like the girls, not neglected.

    The more important issue is why is rape/kiddie porn manga so popular in Japan?

    @JohninNaha

    I agree totally. No TV is the way to go. We do have educational dvds for the kids, though.

    @Legs

    you cannot bring irradiated animals back into society.

    I'm not a scientist, so I may be wrong on this, but I don't think any pets that absorbed radiation are then going to be radiating it themselves. I don't think it's like a disease where they would make their owners sick. The pets themselves will just get sick and die.

    That was put out there a couple days ago, I think.

    That's fair enough, Hepetitis B lives forever...

    Because everyone with tattoos has hepatitis b? Perpetuating stereotypes concerning tattoos or anything else just makes you look foolish.

    Which one went into porn?

    Rina Nakanishi, and apparently her younger sister is going to follow in her footsteps and become an "AV idol."

    Not that I knew this. I just googled it.

    What an obscene photo! Girls! With bare legs! My children will never recover!

    Yes, we must protect the children from women's bare legs.

    A friend of mine went once or twice to zen meditation week/2 week resort near Kyoto, I believe.

    Not only no cell phones. No sound. No talking at all. All day meditation. His complaint was that the people weren't silent enough. People clearing their throats once in a while, etc...

    Taxes seem pretty low, so they could probably be bumped up a little, but yeah, like other people said it's hard to support with all the wasteful spending by the government.

    Thanks for the list, Gogogo.

    Seems the tattoo thing is only prohibited if it's within the last year.

    A ban also if you have used marijuana/psychoactive drugs within the last year. Funny.

    I wonder what the reasoning is behind that.

    I think having tattoos also disqualifies you for donating blood in Japan, no matter how long ago you got them.

    Hahaha, who's got their blood boiling?! Or is it boing!!!

    More like boring.

    Meat and protein binds you up.

    I could use a little "binding" what with all the unbinding my high-beer diet gives me.

    I'm so sick of seeing AkBusu 48 everywhere. They don't make me want to give blood. They make me want to slash my wrists.

    I myself would prefer an onigiri rice ball with kombu and katsuobushi, which at least has no cholesterol and valuable minerals, washed down with green tea.

    Sounds like you've gone native.

    Why ruin some delicious water by turning it into green tea?

    As had been said, "Awa nashi" is the best way to go.

    Why exactly do J-folks like lots of foam anyways?

    I like Lotteria personally. Quite delicious. They put pepper or something on their burgers. Better than McD's.

    I think I'll give the 5 patty/700 yen version a try.

    Studies, studies and more studies. We need them. Even things that seem common sense need to be repeated over and over for them to sink into the greater majority of people's knowledge base.

    How many decades did it take from the first study showing the dangers of smoking until people started to finally get it and put some regulations on tobacco use?
