From what I've heard a military strike just wouldn't be effective in terms of ending the nuclear program. Something tells me Israel is up to something else.

The Islamic Jihad faction was behind the initial rocket attacks. On Sunday the militant faction agreed to stop the violence if Israel also did.

Seems like the better choice would have been to not fire the rockets in the first place, but then again they wouldn't have been able to create headlines about Israel's response had they not done so, so in the end I suppose it paid off for them.

Maybe the militants are a bit angry at Abbas so they've decided to just start blowing things up again since it's the only response their brains are able to calculate.

I think to be set up you actually have to be considered a threat. Everyone knows his poll numbers are going to go down with or without a scandal. It's just a matter of time. Democrats certainly don't think he's a threat and Republicans are just riding through the storm until he talks himself out of the race. No need to be creative when all you have to do is sit back and wait for it to happen.

Makes sense, but i'm sure some will be along shortly to tell us it will bring about an end to the Constitution.

WilliB: Anybody can handle Obama in a debate. But then there is the question how the media spins the event.

Have you seen Perry in the debates? Obviously other Republicans have and they are concerned. Do you think they are concerned because they are falling victim to liberal spin or because they saw him as well?

Cain leading the polls just shows that Republicans have written off the presidential election. Now it's just them trying to establish who has the leading faction in the party.

gifu: It's important to note that the vast majority of this debt is owed to Japanese people. This makes the Japanese situation different from the USA and Greece, who owe most of their massive debts to foreigners.

Americans own the vast majority of American debt.

The spokesman said that the first attack specifically targeted a cell responsible for a Wednesday rocket attack that exploded deep inside Israel.

....yet no press coverage of the rocket attack. Israel responds, and it's front page news.

“Finding out how they died matters,” said Sarah Leah Whitson of Human Rights Watch. “It will set the tone for whether the new Libya will be ruled by law or by summary violence.”

I just don't buy that. You had a brutal crackdown and the leader was found by a mob in the streets. It wasn't some kind of decision made by anyone in authority, and Ghaddafi was responsible for setting up the circumstances of how he was captured. He was given plenty of chances to surrender before that but instead chose to keep killing as many as possible. I think Libya is going to be how it's going to be regardless of how he was killed and regardless of if anyone supported his execution or not.

While I don't support murder, I think there are more pressing issues for Libya to focus on right now. What do groups like HRW hope to accomplish? Are they asking Libya to find the people responsible and put them on trial? There are a hundred conflicting stories as it is. Getting a conviction seems impossible. It's good to remind people of the rule of law but in terms of time and resources the West just looks stupid trying to put a handful of men on trial in Libya while continuing to do business with the dictators who still exist in the Middle East.

He ordered countless men to die needlessly while he sat in his hideout, only to be captured because he ran out of bodies to put between him and the rebels. And when he was found his first words were "don't shoot."

Yep, he really put it all on the line.
