So it looks like Netanyahu thinks there will never be peace with the Palestinians. Maybe he's right, maybe he's not.

Either way I don't see what Obama or any US president can do. Might as well let them have it their way and fight it out forever. There's no need for us to be the lightening rod for criticism. We've paid out the nose to Israel, Palestine, and Egypt, and our Presidents have spent enormous amounts of time on the issue that could be spent on domestic issues instead. At this point neither side is doing anything to work towards a comprehensive peace deal. Until there is a major shift by one or both parties we should just sit on the sidelines and let them blow each other up. Sooner or later one of them will need help.

Last we saw of Trump he was siding with the birther nutters, then was humiliated by Obama for several minutes at the press banquet. I have no idea why anyone running for office would want to associate themselves with him.

    Obama must be defeated

Ah, now i get it. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Even if he's batshiat crazy.

Republicans are just interested in the White House. They'll cripple the economy as long as it helps them accomplish that goal, but if/when they do get the White House back you're going to see quite a few broken campaign promises. Right now they're just interested in dragging the country down because Obama is President of it.

It seems impossible to "build towards" time travel. If the result is a success then we would already know about it since someone would have already arrived from the future. Or if it happens so far in the future that no one has traveled back far enough to our time or doesn't think we should know then the result is the same of not discovering it anyway.

    Oh Republicans...

    http://edition.cnn.com/2011/09/23/politics/congress-fema-funding/index.html

"The bill -- which would keep Washington running through November 18 -- includes critical new disaster funding assistance for states hit hard by a series of recent natural disasters. But Republicans want less disaster aid than their Democratic counterparts, and want to pay for it partly by slashing funding for programs designed to spur clean energy innovation. One key sticking point is that the House bill requires that the $1 billion in immediate disaster funding be offset with $1.5 billion in cuts to a loan program that helps automakers retool their operations to make more fuel-efficient cars. "

When I read things like this I can't help but think Republicans must get excited about funding problems. It gives them another chance to force their ideology onto the public. People are in need of help because of the large number of recent disasters and Republicans are thinking, "Hey, maybe we can use this to our advantage and cut funding for clean energy." By holding the wallet hostage they're basically passing or killing legislation that they wouldn't otherwise have the votes for. They're essentially circumventing democracy.

smithinjapan: So you're saying Georgia timed the execution to boost Moore's sales? Give it a rest, my friend.

What? I think Moore sees an opportunity to publicize his book and that's what he's doing. It's just absolutely absurd that he'd come out and mention that he's going to pull his book from Georgia bookstores as if we can't see what he's really up to....which is mentioning the book. It reeks and in my book that makes him a real piece of shit.

The man is spot on in being outraged, as everyone should be. Aren't you upset about the fact that a man was executed on so flimsy a trial and with almost all of the 'evidence' (which was nothing but eye-witness testimony) was later retracted?

My opposition go the death penalty can be documented on just about every death penalty thread since I joined JT. This particular article was about Michael Moore and that's where my comments were directed. I even think he knows the "boycott Georgia" position is just utterly stupid but he needed a sensational platform so he can get in more papers to publicize his book even more. As if people are going to boycott Georgia, and as if it even makes any sense at all to hurt people who have absolutely nothing to do with the decision, including those who might actually support Moore. Just look at Yabits.

I think the man is surrounded by people who buy what he's shoveling that he's not even trying anymore.

Sarkozy supported an observer state status for Palestine but not full U.N. membership for now. That idea would head off a Security Council vote and veto that he said would risk “engendering a cycle of violence in the Middle East.”

Sweet. If France isn't agreeable then they can use their veto. Same with the UK.

The whole thing is pretty much a circus. I really don't even understand what Abbas really represents anymore. He's going to ask for statehood when he's at war with Hamas, a group that technically controls a portion of the government that is about to be voted on by the UN, and a group that won't accept the UN vote anyway. That idiot Netanyahu is going to make some stupid speech that will sound entirely reasonable if you ignore the fact that the man simply won't stop building on Palestinian land. Europeans, who have spent extreme time and effort trying to stop the vote will stand up and support the Palestinians publicly when their name is called because they're spineless.

In the end all of the crazy nutjobs and spineless wimps will get what they want while it will all be dumped on Obama's lap. Even Republicans are probably lining up to slam Obama right after the veto takes place even though they would do the same exact thing. People who have actually worked to create a solution to the problem will take it up the ass for a while and watch the greedy little hands take a piece of the political pie.

I think people are more worried about what the Palestinians will do with membership and if it will have a positive or negative impact on the overall peace process. If there is a comprehensive peace deal in place first then it's a slam dunk, but if they use the membership as a way to go around direct negotiations and simply attack israel then it makes a lasting, comprehensive deal less likely.

I don't think I ever said that rich aren't taxed enough until I found the US in a situation where the government simply doesn't have enough money to pay the bills. The money has to come from somewhere and spending cuts still makes us fall far short. At this point it's a question of survival, not ideology.
