My guess is that it's your typical wildly inflated stat to get headlines, even as far away as Japan.
There is usually a wild card thrown into the mix to bump up the numbers, and my guess is that this is it. Back when I lived in California the law was that a drunk woman was not allowed to give consent to sex. Even if she went to the roof and shouted it out, she still had the right to press charges the next morning when she was sober. A woman was considered to be unable to engage in a consensual agreement while on alcohol, essentially turning her into a minor and the man into a statutory rapist.
Obviously, not many women are going to run out and press charges based on this. But it was shocking to see the legal leeway they had. The could just as easily turn the survey around and report that 95% of men are rapists at some point in their lives, but I'm guessing even those hungry for funds might think it's a little over the top.

So we have one rich guy making a bet with another rich guy, then other rich guys chiming in to say how insenitive it is? These are people who have sat on boards and thrown millions of dollars at each other just becasue it's there to throw. For a moment they feel excited because they can thrown Romney to the wolves and keep their beach houses.

There's probably not a whole lot the Chinese government can do in terms of stopping individual boat owners from crossing certain lines. At best they could just make it clear they won't do much to help them. I'm sure others who have experience in the Navy could better comment on how practical it is for any government to stop any one boat.

The comments about what Palestinians call themselves is a distraction. His real message is about certain parts of Palestinian society who are hell bent on violence as the solution. To me, personally, it's interesting that he's put it on table for all to see because responding or not responding will show how honest people are willing to be.
My guess is that most people will continue to step over the issue because they are afraid of changing the status quo. There cannot be peace if some elements of one side only knows violence. It's impossible. I've said a thousand times that Abbas could sign any peace deal tomorrow and the militants first reaction would be to attack to end the peace. They've been trained since they were infants, and they are training their own infants today, that a peace agreement would be an end to their goal of destroying Israel. That's Grigrich's more important message.
But people keep ignoring them because they don't want to face that reality. Today the West serves up Israel on a platter as a way to placate the militants and keep them out of their back yard. Go ahead and attack Israel, we'll even make life more difficult for them as a way to add an extra layer of appeasement. Just stay angry at them and don't hurt us...

These conspiracy theorists pop up pretty much everywhere now. They remind me of that church that protests funerals; the one that believes misery is punishment for our acceptance of homosexuals. Their job is to hijack emotional situations so their message will be greeted with the most anger and therefore the most eposure.
Unfortunately, they are probably here to stay and with the internet it will probably only get worse. In the future, all major days of rememberence will be hijacked by these parasites. it's an unfortunate side effect of technology.

I'm not sure Obama sees Romney as the projected nominee, maybe it more like he sees Romney as the only real threat and he wants to keep Romney down in the polls before he has a chance. Republicans might be dumb enough to nominate a man like Gngrich which would be a cakewalk for Obama. Maybe that's more what Obama is shooting for.

Every major world event has a conspiracy theory attached to it. Anything that is going to be researched and studied on a massive scale will always turn up coincidences, odd occurrences, or "why didn't?" questions. Add in people whose personalities are to see more than what is there, and a conspiracy theory will follow. It's inevitable.
