The Taliban don't enjoy the support of the people, and they don't have the numbers for a military takeover. It's basically going to be thousands people people thrown into a very bloody grinder for years and years. And years. And years.
Pakistan won't fall to the Taliban, but it's going to be bloody. They tried the military approach but that hasn't worked well. Instead they tried diplomacy and peace deals with the Taliban, which the Taliban signed to get the troops to leave, then threw away the agreements and started killing…
Now you seem to be saying that this is turning into a Bush-bash. I would say that it is more a criticism of what this administration has done, is doing and intends to do but I can see how that might look like a Bush-bash.
Let's not forget that Pakistan is close to Afghanistan, which is where US forces are hunting Osama Bun Laden, who should have been caught by now if the US hadn't gone into Iraq.
As far as I can see, we have been insisting that Iran temporarily suspend its nuclear enrichment program prior to our sitting down at the table with them to negotiate their permanent suspension.
Hopefully that will change with Obama. But, you also have the Europeans who would have to sign…
