Probably the same reason you don't see many sales of British, German, Italian, French, Swedish or Korean cars either. The market in Japan is tough to enter and total sales are in decline and unlikely to recover. On top of that at least a third of existing car sales are for the mini-type 660 cc vehicles that offer little profit - hence little motivation to spend the money required to build distribution. The real goal of foreign makers has been to open up the Japanese market for car parts - that is where the real money is.

There is no parole in the Federal prisons so if they are sentenced to 2 years, they will serve 2 years. They will also, of course, serve the time in Federal prisons which means that in all likelihood they will be sent to another state away from friends or family who could visit.

Lots of seconds in 21 minutes.
Cleo - That is a typical, snarky sentiment voiced by those who do not comprehend the distances in rural counties of the U.S. There are simply a handful of officers to cover thousands of square miles.
The accompolice has now been charged with murder. Oklahoma's felony murder law permits prosecutors to seek a murder conviction if an accomplice dies during the commission of another felony crime.

This is a brave young woman who kept calm and saved two lives - hers and her baby's. Thank God she had a shotgun and knew how to use it. When seconds counted, the police were minutes away.

Funny, in the immediate years following the shooting of the NPA head, Japanese papers wrote that the would-be assasin was most certainly a foreigner because no Japanese person could possibly hit him with a shot from that distance.

Rape is a horrible crime, but the fight against it is not helped when these studies come out using a definition of rape that almost no sensible person would use. If your husband or wife pressures you into sex when you really don't feel like it, they consider it rape. If a girl feels that she was taken advantage of after she had a few drinks which made her more promiscuous, they consider it rape. Diluting the meaning like that does nothing but drain resources and focus away from rape through force or intimidation - the definition most people use.

Of course, Canada is pulling out and the rest of the world is doing the same. The money being currently wasted on useless measures would be better spent on helping vulnerable communities adapt to climate change.

nigelboy - Actually this would be the very kind of story that would get reported on the local news (even on the West Coast). Someone gettng mugged and thrown into a pond is the kind of story 11 o'clock news producers love to run. In any event, you seem to be under the impression that the only crime that happens in Japan is what you see reported in the newspaper or on the television news.

The pending bill seems to be very reasonable. Requiring a farmer or rancher to first hold a shotgun license for a minimum of 10 years before getting a rifle license is pointless.

The marijuana being sold today is far from a natural product - try to smoke a wild hemp plant and see how high you get. The THC levels in today's product are so high that the use of marijuana is not a social activity as it was once considered. The takeover by organized crime in its manufacture and distribution has made marijuana a true drug.

Today's WSJ reported that Woodford's firing came after he hired an auditor to look at the extraordinary fees Olympus paid to two advisers, one of whom is located in the Cayman Islands, in the Gyrus deal. While a standard fee is 1% of the deal amount, Olympus paid 36% of the deal to the shadowy advisers ($687 million). The WSJ reported that it was unable to find contact information for the advisers.

The fact is that Obama couldn't get his own party to vote for his plan because it is clear that it is going to flush more money down the tubes with nothing to show for it. He didn't need a single Republican vote - the bill failed to pass the Senate because of Democrat votes against it.
