No coincidence. The doctor had been hired by the company behind the London concerts to stay by Michael Jackson's side through the rehearsals and run of concerts. So he had to leave his practice.

I remember when the Thriller album came out and it was acceptable for rock fans to admit they liked it because Eddie Van Halen played the solo on Beat It. Brilliant marketing and music.

Sotomayor's nomination is bringing to light some reality about her fabled background. Accrding to an article by the AP, Sotomayor did not live her entire childhood in a housing project in the South Bronx — she spent most of her teenage years in a middle-class neighborhood, attending private school and winning scholarships to Princeton and then Yale. She joined a law firm where her clients included the fashion maker Fendi. She now earns more than $200,000 a year and owns a condominium in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood of million-dollar-plus homes. Her brother, Dr. Juan Sotomayor, is a physician in North Syracuse, N.Y., whose practice doesn't accept Medicaid or Medicare — programs for the poor and elderly — according to its Web site.

China owns just less than one quarter of the US debt held by foreigners. The US Treasury market is the only one in the world big enough to support its purchases. The Chinese talk about making changes but the reality is that they can't (it would disrupt any other market China went into and would devalue its US dollar holdings) and don't want to (they still correctly see the US as a relative safe haven compared to the rest of the world).

Farmboy - You are confusing the assault weapons ban which expired with ongoing restriction under the National Firearms Act (NFA)on machine guns.
Badsey - The terms Class 2 and Class 3 refer to the type of tax payment made by either firearms dealers or manufactures to work with NFA firearms. The firearms themselves don't have that classification. Antiqure firearms are those manufactured before 1898. If you want to have a full auto firearm, then you better make the proper application and pay the tax - otherwise you are looking at a 10-year prison sentence.

The idea of putting the worst Guantanamo detainees in "Supermax" prison sounds good until reality strikes - there is only one Supermax prison in the federal Bureau of Prison system - ADX Florence in Colorado and it has only 4 spaces left. And the reality of moving the prisoners in and out for court appearances would be impossible to do without huge cost - I was in Seattle during the initial court appearances of the Millenium Bomber, Ahmed Ressam. Everytime he moved in and out of the federal courthouse it shut down the downtown area for security reasons.
The concealed guns bill in National Parks didn't face opposition because there is not a crime problem in the parks now and there is no reason to anticipate that lawfully carried firearms will create one. It is funny how defensive the Democrat strategists got to support Obama's signing of the bill. Paul Begala rushed onto CNN to announce that he's a hunter - why he was even going hunting this weekend - and how supportive Obama is of gun rights.

dzimmerm - You are confusing the Gun Control Act of 1968 with the machine gun ban which took effect in May 1986.

This drunk driver, 32-year-old Chanton Jenkins, should have never been free in the first place. He had a criminal record dating back to 1994, when he was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, a felony. He received deferred adjudication of guilt but his probation was revoked in 1995 after he was convicted of unauthorized absence from a community correctional facility, another felony. In 1997, Jenkins pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 10 months in state jail. Five years later, he was again convicted for felony possession of a controlled substance. This time he received a yearlong jail term. Most recently, he pleaded guilty to manufacturing and/or delivering a controlled substance and was sentenced to 10 months in state jail.

Tax day always brings out interesting revelations. One today is that Joe Biden is a lot more generous with other people's money than with his own. Between 1998 and 2006, Joe Biden contributed between $120 and $380 a year to charity, according to his tax returns, on AGIs of $210,000 to $321,100.

Now Democratic Senator Christopoher Dodd has admitted to CNN in an interview that he added the amendment in the stimulus bill allowing for the bonuses. But he now says that he did so at the direction of the Obama Administration - direction that Dodd characterized as "insistent". Obama himself received over $100,000 in donations from AIG in 2008, an amount second only to Dodd.
Dodd's account has now been verified by a Treasury official:

And this is being reported by CNN - which doesn't even ask Obamba the hard questions.

This headline and story are so slanted.
While the Senate constructed the $787 billion stimulus last month, it was Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd who unexpectedly added an amendment providing an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009,” which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax after the fallout. The Dodd amendment is in the final version and is law.
Senator Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100.
Treasury Secretary Geitner was the head of the New York Federal Reserve while the intitial bailout was crafted. His failure to inform Obama of the bonuses until this week would warrant his termination. However, the Obama Administration is in a duck and cover mode and continues to muddle on.
