Adults are responsible for what they eat, and what their kids eat. I never ate McDonald's because of Ronald anyway... actually, I think he's kinda scary.

Dis someone say the unidentified liquid turned out to be urine? Hahahaha! So the stowaways used a plastic bag as a toilet when they were hiding elsewhere (god knows where), and were probably emptying them into the toilets on board?!?! They would have been better off trying to sneak into the US by SWIMMING across the ocean rather than by plane... albeit, they almost got away with it. If they do turn out to be stowaways, I'm sure the Chinese airport authorities will get the third degree.
Lots of negative racial stereotype comments here by the way on Japanese, Chinese... wow.

Savoie and his ex-wife are 50-50 responsible for this whole mess for not being able to hold their marriage together in the first place, and not coming to a "civil" and reasonable agreement over the divorce. Add to that, she kidnapped the kids, then he kidnapped the kids. The kids must have gone through hell, and now their mom is a criminal in the US, and the dad is probably banned from Japan. I think it's pretty dam clear who's at fault... why blame others?

I always like the comic relief in my daily dose of news. I wonder if any women have ever been caught stealing men's underwear?
nemoflow at 06:32 PM JST - 10th March
Not really. It's called "hentai" and they're definitely in the minority.

Kyoken: Maybe there are factors other than electronics that can cause SUA (sudden unintended acceleration), therefore the need for the brake over-ride? (Almost all other car makers have this function in their newer vehicles) ...and some of those other factors are beyond Toyota's control such as foreign matter jamming the throttle blade open? (it happened to me before with a pine comb and a Dodge pick up truck, so it can happen to anyone), or, dare I say, "Driver error"??? You know, anybody at this point who says "driver error" is cold, heartless, and ignorant, but that's exactly why it's not even being MENTIONED in the hearings or by the media. That's why Toyota can't even mention it. The truth is, it's as much a reality as SUA. Look at all the cases in Japan for example of people slamming through convenient store walls from the parking lot, and the driver admits that they mistook the gas pedal for the brake.
Electronics surely may be one possible cause too, but if the NHTSA, or this house oversight committee wants to really find out the exact cause for each and every one of those accidents, then we'll probably have to wait another ten years because each case is probably very unique.
Here are two pretty interesting articles I found on the topic of electronic interference:

A couple of points here:
1) Since Waxman, or Stupak, or any of these politicians are obviously not engineers, exactly who is saying that Toyota's tests are insufficient? An objective 3rd party group of engineers? NHTSA engineers? That bias "safety research group" funded by lawyers filing class action lawsuits against Toyota?
2) I've said this before... If the US Government really wanted to get to the bottom of this issue, they would have invited the actual engineers, designers, testers, and managers who ran and approved testing and evaluation of the parts/vehicles in question to the hearings in the first place. Instead, they only invited the top execs to the hearings only to scrutinize them in front of everybody to make themselves look good for the upcoming elections. Any idiot knows that top execs can only provide general statements and empty promises because they're not engineers either.

Great news that these two were saved by the assistance of good samaritans.
bamboohat:
Then surely you read the part where the article states "A man in his 20s saw what was happening and pushed the emergency button while several other passengers pulled the two men back up onto the platform."
A few key points here bamboohat:
One is that while you seem to be mocking the significance of the guy pushing the e-stop button, the e-stop button served a better purpose in this particular situation than a pulled fire alarm would in a fire. The reason is because, as the article states, the train was still one minute away from the station, and if pushing the e-stop button at the station signals the train to immediately stop, then this was a rational decision made by the man to push the button before possibly jumping down to help anyone because there was plenty of time to push the button.
Point number 2 is that the man in his 20's pushed the emergency button "while several other passengers pulled the two men back up onto the platform." The key word here being WHILE. This means that either the man in his 20's worked as a team with the group of other passengers who helped pull the men up, or the man in his 20's joined in after the the group of passengers started pulling the men up and figured this was the best thing he could do since only so many people can actually help pull 2 men up onto the platform, OR, the man in his 20's planned to push the button and then go down and help the men onto the platform, but the group of passengers started doing that as he pushed the button.
Hey, sorry for the long post... I guess what I'm trying to say is that despite what you may think or what you may have intended on saying, you're comment reflects that of a person jumping to conclusions without knowing all of the details. Details are important. It's very possible that these people did the right thing and did not stand around with their thumbs up their a$$es like you suggest. I say bravo to them.

True, they should have been completely transparent in their investigations and recalls to begin with. However, I don't believe there was inequality in the treatment of American and Japanese consumers simply because Toyota would have done the same thing if the problem was in Japan.
With that said, it still remains to be seen if they were in fact guilty of a cover-up, or they honestly thought they were addressing the problem. It certainly doesn't look good for them right now.

Another (suspected) child abuse case involving a parent from a second marriage. ...and the mother was only 18 when she had this child. I'm baffled as to why Japan doesn't improve its sex education at an earlier age. In Canada, we learned about contraception in grade 8... and that was over 20 years ago! We laughed and joked about it because we were imature, but at least we knew about it.

Need... more... details...
This doesn't make sense. Unwanted pregnancies usually involve ONE baby, no? Since there are TWO babies in this case, the mother is either dumber than we think (because she had TWO unwanted pregnancies in a row), or there was another reason other than unwanted pregnancy... or it wasn't the mother that did this?

Oh please, defect investigations happen everyday with other car makers. It's a good thing that this is being brought to people's attention, but people should also be aware that every other car maker also undergoes investigations like this just as frequently.

That is a very interesting proposition... don't buy porn, go see a prostitute... hmmmmmmm.....
Shackle: after much deliberation, I believe your suggestion might be unrealistic due to the economic value of buying porn over "repenting with a professional lady".
Besides, this guy is 44 yrs old, probably with a family, and works everyday, so he probably doesn't watch porn (or doesn't have the opportunity to watch porn) "48 hours a day" like you imply.
