+1 for hoserfella's previous comment. I wish Kan stayed on as Prime Minister. Given the constraints and mass incompetence and red tape he had to wade through when he was trying to solve the nuclear problems, I actually think he did a decent job, and he had my trust. It was pretty obvious he wasn't putting his own agenda at the forefront of his priorities, unlike the weasels we have running the circus today.

In other words, Edano was saying that his pride and that of the Japanese government was more important to save and preserve than the Japanese people themselves. It's a wonder that there hasn't been a bloody coup yet.

I suppose I should also thank you for helping me decide my stance on a topic that I have been sitting on the fence for so long about, simply out of not caring.

Thomas, I'm not sure whether or not you are LGBT, but I do know this... You are the perfect walking talking embodiment of every argument against homosexuals being accepted in general. Perhaps you should stop talking / writing. You'll be doing the LGBT a community a huge favor.

The government, which had the responsibility to look out for its citizens, is under trial here. I can understand that and I agree with it. What about the trial for TEPCO?

Marriage between a man and a woman, believe it or not, IS the status quo. Therefore, yes, introducing same-sex marriage into the mix will, in complete effect, disrupt and alter the status quo. So your argument against that argument fails from the get-go.
Slavery? And the internet? Really? You're gonna compare homosexuality to slavery and the internet? And YOU complain the arguments against same-sex marriage are weak? ROFL!

"Good luck with that... that's never going to happen."
It already has, Thomas.
Look up the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Citizens for Equal Protection v. Bruning. The Eighth Circuit, citing Baker v. Nelson, affirmed the constitutionality under the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause of Nebraska's constitutional amendment which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, and states that unions of two people in a same-sex relationship as marriage or similar to marriage shall not be valid or recognized.
Let's repeat that last part, so there's no confusion.
Unions of two people in a same-sex relationship as marriage or similar to marriage shall not be valid or recognized.
In fact, the proponents of Proposition 8 are still awaiting an appeal to the Supreme Court, which still upholds that same-sex marriage is illegal under the constitution. Ergo, same sex marriage banned at the constitutional level? Happened.

A lot of legal herbs, including tobacco (not really a herb, but smoke-able) are more dangerous and detrimental to health than marijuana. The only reason it hasn't been legalized is because of the stigma that has been placed on it and because tobacco companies stand to lose immensely should pot be legalized. These 'legal' herbs like Spice etc are so laden with chemicals it's a shock that they haven't been banned yet.

> The visit by Goshi Hosono, apparently aimed at demonstrating the safety of the facility
He should have gone sans protective suit if he really wanted to demonstrate safety. Then, maybe in a few months, we wouldn't have to deal with incompetent Hosono anymore.

With all the other problems like the nuclear situation, power crisis, debt crisis, etc., I can't believe this moron is surprised and even disappointed that very few have time to care about the Olympic bid. “selfish and extremely narrow-minded,”??? The guy should have a serious look in the mirror and at his comrades in government office.

"he confirmed the event had taken place and said it was organized to raise awareness about “sexual minorities, x-gender, asexual people.”
So if his message was that those social groups mentioned above are psychologically disturbed and deranged, message received!

I've always wondered, besides the power problem (which I hope doesn't result in the restarting of nuclear plants, though I wouldn't be surprised if it did), how would Japan handle the problems of logistics and accommodation if the Olympics were to be held here? It's hard enough squeezing into trains during peak hours... what more with hundreds of thousands of poor unsuspecting amazed and bewildered tourists? And booking accommodations? One can only imagine that if the Olympics were to be announced to be held in Japan, that every major hotel will be booked out within the week (if not the day) of the announcement.
