Heh, too bad my uncle didn't survive it, well, not entirely. Survived the march, and then found himself on the wrong end of a Japanese officer's sword. I can only imagine what kind of hell that march was.

So it seems that actual fireworks DID work, for people that were there, but they inserted a digital image for TV viewers, just in case. Am I getting this right?
