I really cannot understand why its so hard for you to understand that jailed people have nothing better to do than lash out at their jailors.

It's not a jail if they can leave and judging by all the Palestinians living in my neighborhood they most certainly can. Additionally food and money has been sent to Palestine for years and it's been squandered to fund their pointless attacks on Israel.

Get some work done? With what?

They can go the china route, cheap labor. Start letting foreign companies build factores and start investing with the money they get in donations instead of buying piss poor weapons from the Iranians. If they've got a problem with Israel building their settlements how about they pool their money and build the settlements first and then lease the property to Israeliis. But that would be siding with profit over pinciple.

To be perfectly honest this whole problem could be resolved if the Palestinians started thinking with their pocket books.

    I prefer siding with humanity.

Then why side with either of them? Neither side is a shining example of humanity, both are corrupt, but Palestine offers nothing while Israel has made itself into one of the most stable and successful economies in the region.

Man, you guys sure follow a predictable script.

Hay, I approve of the appointment. I'm pretty sure Daley was picked for the position largely because that is the kind of reaction his presence would illicit.

I like NAFTA and I like open trade agreements so I’m pretty happy about Daley.

It is designed to give him cover to continue the same allegedly "pro-business" policies that are running the US into the ground, and keep the Ponzi alive a little longer.

Hopefully that's not the case. I like a more dynamic business environment where profit and failure are left to the consumer to deal out and where the variety of products is only limited by what people will and won't buy. I’ve never actually seen such a thing but maybe in a few decades the parties will finally die out and we can actually get things done.

Thanks TheQuestion, for answering my question.

No problem, although 'pompous' is a bit much. Most of those countries are just protecting their own interests. There's more to gain siding with Israel than with Palestine.

When I was in junior high, that is what the bullies would say after they tripped people walking down the hallway.

That comparison is largely invalid. While past blockades have kept aid out its those within Palestine that squander food and money donations from around the world (a whole lot of it from organizations within the U.S) on a fruitless war with Israel. For it's part Israel response attacks, while hugely disproportionate, are just that, a reaction to Palestinian aggression.

If we're going to talk about bullies though I'd say it looks more like a scrawny kid with something to prove who, week after week, keeps picking fights with the larger boy in the class that the teacher likes more. The larger boy, for his part, reacts by roundhouse kicking the scrawny kid in the chest for the discourtesy every single time. Now his grades are in the toilet, he's spent all his money on second rate instructional videos he bought from the Iranian kid at the back of the class, but he keeps on going at it. The first few times I felt sorry for the scrawny kid because he did get a pretty raw deal, but after the 9th or 10th time I can't help but wonder why he won't sit down, shut up, and get some work done?

which pretty much foils the ability to set up a working government.

They don't really need help failing, all their food money goes towards rockets and their whole system is horribly corrupt.

So what pompous person over-rides half the world's recognition of the Palestinian declaration of independence with a set of parentheses??

Among those who have not recognized the state are the European Union, Japan, Australia, and the United States...so most of the industrialized world. Considering the U.S lists Hamas as a terrorist organizatin it's hardly surprising.

Well at least he gets the chamber of commerce in a more cooperative mood. Maybe he can help shape a more business friendly political environment on the presidential side of things.

Shock still has my vote. I once discharged a firearm in a barn and nearly a dozen of the birds dropped from the rafters, with no other discernable cause I can only assume it was the sound. I've also seen them die in significant numbers around the 4th of July, the 5th of May, and New Years though never in numbers as large as that in the article, never more than 30 or 40 at a time. But they reproduce quick enough.

All your post is is an admission of several things I accused you of except you slapped the label of "nuh-uhhh!" on it.

I'm starting to think you got to my reference to the siege and then stopped reading when I left out information not pertinent to the discussion.

The Hanafi Siege was started by Muslim wannabees and ended thanks to the peaceful efforts of three real Muslims who will be underappreciated for their efforts by people who are blind with hate.

Just out of curiosity, how does one differentiate between a 'wannabee' Muslim and a real Muslim? Really comes down to interpretation of the written word and how it relates to the modern world.

And if a couple of guys ended the siege than good on them, however as I have neither the patience nor the drive to type out every part of the story I stuck to what was pertinent to the discussion at hand, if you read the entirety of the exchange I think you'd find that I was not exactly flying off the handle with contempt for Muslims. Any slight that you perceived is just that, a perception, you're jumping at shadow's of bigotry where there are none...well at least not in this instance.

    TheQuestion

And you use the Hanafi Siege to back that up?

No, the bit about the Hanafi Siege was in reguards to a belief that muslims had been commiting acts of violence in large part due to the wars in the middle east. By using the siege I was merely pointing out that people of the muslim persuasion have been capable of some pretty nasty stuff long before the invasion. It's all about context.

The problem is not Islam. The problem is not immigrants. The problem is not Islamic immigrants.

Never said it was. I'm simply pointing out that with a rapid increase in immigration there are bound to be incidents ranging from peaceful discussion and protest to the occasional murder attempt.

    TheQuestion

I'll agree a touch of coinicidence, but to say that the so-called war on terror hasn't done the exact opposite is in direct Denial of incidents such as these.

Fighting terrorists and creating them are not mutually exclusive. In truth the U.S military is doing what it does best, it kills people and builds stuff. While we call it the war on terror we don't know exactly what the end goal of said war is. If it's making the U.S secure than that was doomed from the start, if it's to give extremists second thoughts about attacking the U.S than it's also largely unsuccessful as there have been multiple attempts to commit acts of terror on U.S soil since the wars started. We simply don't know how well the war is doing as we don't know the outcome we were trying to achieve. One could say it's doing poorly for the reasons above or that it is doing well due to the enemy body count. for all we know OBL died of kidney failure a few years ago (doubt it) and our continued involvement in the middle east is a long term training program to ensure the U.S military continues recieving such a large portion of the budget. Or perhapse to monitor the long term performance of our troops. Were that the case we could at least begin measuring our performance.

What we need are SMART goals. Some examples include: # militants killed per month until our date of withdrawl, completion of stable power grid in Iraq by the end of next year, burn down 80% of poppy fields in Afghanistan by the end of next year, or x number of new weapon systems tested on militants before wars end. I, for one, would love to see a Hercules with a onboard powerplant testing the railguns that the navy has been working on.

    TheQuestion

Oh really? What other "vehicles" would there be justify a mass-murder suicide attack on a Danish newspaper?

Virtually any social or economic group, anarchists seem to be in fashion this year.

What effect did you expect when America, and not without immense contraversy, invades a percieved muslim land?

Muslim extremists have been doing this for a while. In 1977 12 extremists took hostages in D.C to protest the showing a movie about the life of Mohammad (Mohammad, Messenger of God) despite the fact the movie depicted neither Mohammad or his family physically or in voice, they killed two and injured others.

The link between the invasions and this decade's free speech vs Islam issue does exist. However, it'd attribute these incidents to the increased number of muslim immigrants to non-muslim nations, the war certainly contributes to that but most of those leaving these conflicted zones do so to, well, leave behind the conflict.

Mixing cultures over such a short span of time is bound to cause problems, between the riots in France, the Mosque ban in Switzerland, and the cartoons in Denmark I find it hard to believe that the war is the main cause of this friction. Increased cross-cultural contact inevitably leads to conflict, how long this period of unrest lasts is entierly dependant on how the moderates of both groups decide to conduct themselves.

    TheQuestion

thanks for clarifying my question. I guess I should have went to those ESL classes with my mom.

I'm an auditor, it's my job to restate information in a new and often more confusing way. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

How are things any different for the two gay men TAD/TDY to the ME because a law in their home country was was repealed?

If you're going to use an acronym please give the actual meaning behind it the first time round. I can Google it but that requires a quarter second of my time that I'm already adverse to dedicating to discussing something on an online forum.

The problem isn't that things have changed for people on TAD (Temporary Additional Duty see that was easy and now other posters know what’s going on) but rather there has been a perceived change that leaves room to be misinterpreted. In any case the origin post was in regards to civilians and soldiers in countries where displays of affection are punishable by law. Soldiers make mistakes and it only makes sense that procedures should be put in place to encourage gay servicemen to keep their sexual preference under wraps even in nations in which they are not actively fighting due to national laws forbidding homosexual intimacy. Oman, for example, has hosted U.S servicemen in peacetime and soldiers were allowed on leave there, a responsible procedure would be to remind gay soldiers about local law.

Responsible procedure and implementation is the only thing I've been talking about on this topic

what was wrong with the star wars?

Well now we technicaly can't deploy nuclear weapons in space but it doesn't say anything about conventional weapons. Project Thor is still an option in the future, rods from God are cooler than nukes anyway.

This treaty gives up the US right to defend itself, and to counter any threat from WMD's.

Like all international agreements if spit hits the fan we (and any other nation) will pull out all the stops. MAD is still on whether it's down on paper or not.

Anyway having Russia reduce their nuclear stockpile by any ammount is always in the favor of the U.S. Because while Russia no longer has the manpower or economic heft to threaten the U.S it also lacks the ability to oversee all of its nuclear weapons making it easier for them to be stolen by rogue elements around the globe and all those rogue elements tend to have a common enemy and guess who it is. Whether its pirates, gun runners, or your average hard working terrorist everybody wants to see me and my nation burn like continent sized bonfire (sorry Canada and Mexico but if we go down you'll probably get it to).

    TheQuestion

    They are anti-capitalist organizations.

So long as people are able and willing to buy the product and the private company is able to generate a profit there's no reason why a monopoly couldn't exist in a purely capitalistic structure. If cost is driven up to much people seek alternatives, if none exist the entrepreneur creates them forcing the larger company to drive down its cost. Its state sponsored monopolies and oligopolies that are hard to crack.

Anyway Murdoch isn’t monopolizing the entire media industry in this article; he’s just seeking a majority share in one broadcasting company. Also, considering how the article mentions that his move to purchase a majority share “is opposed by Murdoch’s many rivals” I think it’s fair to say he isn’t the only player in this media game.

    TheQuestion

Or are you convinced that they're suddenly not smart enough or don't have enough self control to conduct themselves accordingly in those places now that DADT has been repealed?

Soldiers break regulations off duty all the time, difference is that in some countries two gay men displaying affection might get them killed. It's a legitimate concern and a potential international spit storm.

    TheQuestion

You are yelling at me as though I'm a bigot when I clearly said I support the repeal but with certain measures in place. What's your problem the last two days?

People have a tendency to forget that sweeping repeals of long standing programs are complicated and require a whole lot of fine tuning. There are a variety of issues that need to be addressed in this and ignoring them simply for the sake of feeling good about removing DADT is irresponcible.

    TheQuestion

Kept a civil tone and your back against the door?

Back against the door? Heck no, my theatre group rocks. A couple of them ask if I've given any consideration to it but my response is always the same. We go to practice, we’ve gone to opera performances, they’ve all met my family, sometimes we even go to the firing range before practice, those guys are pretty awesome, but we don’t talk about sexuality. I don’t care what they do in bed but that doesn’t mean I want to hear about it and they really don’t want to talk about it with me. I’d say it works out quite nicely.

Catlike reflexes, eh? I think your country needs you.

Tried to right out of high school and again in 2001 but apparently my stature would prevent me from being able to properly do my duties. The 20 lbs I can lose but I can't get shorter.

I find it interesting that of all the developed countries only the USA is this preoccupied and scared of homosexuals.

You need to open yourself up to all aspects of the world my friend, it's full of hate and resentment. Because the U.S is a nation of immigrants it stands to reason that all of our bigotry had to come from somewhere else too. Ireland, the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France all have their bigots, I've met some of them myself. For example, the most homophobic, racist, truly unpleasant person I have ever met is a Dutch dairy farmer that lives in northern Wisconsin. I could only understand half the words that came out of his mouth but they were all filthy.
