Alphaape -- good points about how presidents handled pukes in the past. Lucky these "enemy combatants" weren't around during WWII or they would have been immediately shot upon capture.

Like a whole host of things, gun ownership has its place. At least in America, we have the freedom of choice to buy a gun, a Bible , or a Koran, whatever. Bet you cannot do the same in most countries on this earth...

I agree people on Medicare should receive medications at a lower cost, but everyone else should pay current prices. I have owned stock for over two decades in the two largest drug companies in the world and their stock value has not appreciate or their dividends are no better than other Blue Chip stocks. Their investment in R&D is literally a crap shoot; they need to recoup their expensives and pay dividends to their shareholders or else we would not have all the drugs availble now. Outside of the US and a very few companies in Europe who else makes lifesaving drugs? China? Cuba? Russia? Wow, isn't socialism great...

It is a bilateral issue. The US should stay out of the abduction issue. The Japanese government is being leaned on by big business not to push N. Korea too much -- since the Japanese have an affinity for cheap seafood and how would Uniglo, Aoki etc. stock their shelves with cheap clothes if it wasn't for N.Korean sweat shops. It looks like shaming Japanese politicians is not working, so the abductee supporters need to shame the Japanese people. Publicize the companies doing business with N. Korea and/or the intermediaries...

The catch phrase for 2009 will be "don't blame me, I didn't vote for him" but all kidding aside the best way to end the violence is to cut off all aid to Israel. Without an economic and military gaurantor Israel who be forced to take a more moderate view to their neighbors. Both sides have their grievances that can only be settled among themselves. This view of the Mideast situation has been voiced many times by Congressman Ron Paul, who has a better grasp of the situation than me and all the posters here on JT.

Lets not consider it a death penalty, lets rename it pre-death organ harvesting. Criminals who don't deserve to breathe the same air as us are no more (a win for society at large) and some desperate sick person receives a vital organ (a big win for the sick person).
Posted in: Our approach to reducing crime should not be killing those who harm us. On the contrary, in the interest of learning what makes them tick, we should keep violent criminals alive and conduct thorough research on them.
