As long as it doesn't mean any more of this ridiculous, productivity-sapping, sweat-inducing, laundry-increasing, wrongheaded Cool Biz, I'm in favor.

TheDave, actually most of the three-digit guys are bullpen catchers, batting practice pitchers, interpreters, and other miscellaneous staff members who have occasion to be on the field. Now they've got the 'developmental players' wearing these numbers, but #120 Takahashi in the photo is in fact a staffer for the Giants.

Once again Japan Today shows a depressing indifference to the correct spelling of the names of the people in their stories. I'm guessing that they're (surname last) "Kyung-gil Hong" and "Suk-ja Pak". Any Korean speakers who can help?

They've got to be kidding. “We are facing difficulty raising funds"!? What would you do with a customer of yours who said something like that?

We all know what Aiful would do, and Aiful's creditors should do the same thing. Demand repayment, or tack on the same egregious interest that Aiful takes from the people it fleeces.

Oh, yeah, and courtesy of the Stars and Stripes:

While in Iraq, Michael Ferschke kept a running letter in diary form for his bride. The last page was written only a few hours before he went out on his last mission. The last sentence was: "I love you." Shame on you.

Thanks for that, Triumvere. "Quoted for truth," as they say.

    Looking forward to this!

    Now get this part settled:

Millions more titles could be added to On Demand’s virtual inventory if Google gets federal court approval of a class-action settlement that would grant it the right to sell copyrighted books no longer being published.

...and every bookstore with one of these machines installed will instantly have a library that will be the envy of anything in existence now. A new Renaissance for book lovers!

As an American guy I am pretty worried about what marriage with the average Tokyo girl would mean. Seems that demands for turning over salary are very common. This is, of course, impossible.

Then there is the seemingly inevitable cut off of sex by the wife who has decided not to endulge but expects the husband to simply go without. This is, of course, impossible.

And finally there is the expectation that the husband will somehow go from x-million per year to Y-million per year based upon the sheer will of his wife's financial ambition. This is, of course, impossible.

Tkoind, I couldn't have said this better myself. These husbands aren't husbands at all -- they're slaves. And unlike with the conventional form of slavery, there are precious few "abolitionists" agitating to end this one and replace it with something fairer!

It's too bad they don't make the iPhone in this form factor -- that would be fantastic for those of us who want to listen to music and maybe take a photo or two, but have little use for all the applications and want to shed the bulk.

    Vienna has a subway?

It certainly does, with six lines (maybe more, now) serving various parts of the city. Westbahnhof, which I assume is where this incident took place, is near the Mariahilfer-Strasse shopping district and happens to be the very first Viennese train station I ever made use of.

But I have to say I choose Americans system over japan. where 12 year 'models' are almost the norm in places like Akiba.

America's legal system or America's sex culture in general? I'd have to say the latter but not the former. Legally the American system is complete garbage, and that has nothing to do with the sexualization of children. How about preferring American mores and the Japanese legal framework?

adultery is a Class I felony.

His wife was also committing adultery on the side. I'm disappointed that that didn't make it into this article, because it shows the wife's utter hypocrisy.

Being haffu myself and had been raised in Japan..the term "ainu-ko" was used alot.

Ichiroll, the word you're thinking of is "ai-no-ko" (mixed child). It has nothing to do with the Ainu, though there are many mixed Ainu-Yamato people who also struggle with bullying.

    Or are you part-Ainu yourself?

Great to see them finally cut the price and make a smaller unit -- essential for people living in cramped Japanese apartments!

Even if an original PS2 processor was too expensive, I wish software-based backward compatibility had been brought back. It was in some early 80 GB units in the US, but not in Japan at all. There's still an amazing library of PS2 games out there and we're going to be wanting to play them for years, long after the PS2 stops being produced. I'd gladly pay a little more for PS2 compatibility in my PS3.

This moron is responsible for Suu Kyi's extended house arrest. Should be flogged when he gets back to the US.

No, the Burmese government is responsible for her continued house arrest. It's them who came up with the outrageous idea of punishing the visitee in addition to the visitor.

Tonga police fear ferry toll may rise further

I really, really wish people would stop using the word "toll" to mean "deaths". The headline makes it look like the situation is as innocuous as the ferry company charging people more to ride the boat.

There's no excuse for murder, but nineteen years without any attention from the opposite sex must ahve truly been hell. Who's to say that it wouldn't have driven even the best of us insane?

If you've got a husband, wife, lover, "sefure", or who-knows-what, thank them profusely next time you see them, and let them know how much they mean to you. All human beings need love! Not being able to attract the opposite sex doesn't make you a "loser"; the people around you to whom you might not be attracted -- treat them civilly and respectfully.
