    Oh God, I just read some comments in support of her. The universe has indeed been rent asunder.

    Sharia Law being applied by courts in the US - absurd, and just plain ignorant. Sharia Law being argued in mitigation occasionally, possible - as other mitigating circumstances are often argued and given appropriate weight by the court before applying US law to the facts. This has probably happened more than most people realise, but simply gets more attention now for obvious reasons. Muslim communities living according to the precepts of their faith have probably existed in the US for a very long time, it's not hard to imagine that Sharia Law has been brought up in mitigation in a US court before now.

    The point to remember is that it will always be US law that will be applied to the facts regardless of someones faith, and if that doesn't happen, there is an appeals process to (hopefully) correct errors of law.

    Japan apologizes (yet again, and (yet again) everyone says "Nah, ya didn't mean it.", "Ya weren't sincere enough.", "Where's the money?".

    A Japanese PM could stand in front of the Diet and publicly cut his nuts off as a show of remorse, and everyone would say, "Nah, he's a Japanese PM, he wasn't using them anyway - not good enough."

    What Ahmadinejad forgot to mention was that the Freemasons, the Bavarian Illuminati and the Elders of Zion were all in on it as well.

    When something this big goes down you can sure those guys won't stand for being left out of it.

    ...there shall, in that time, be rumors of things going astray, errrm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things wi - with the sort of raffia work base that has an attachment. At this time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock. Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril that...

    There is nothing to "understand" about this bag of filth. He killed, he ran away, he actively evaded capture and would have continued to do so if some rather quick thinking people hadn`t done the right thing.

    His actions all speak volumes about the type of person he is.

    I am so happy he has FINALLY been caught.

    I admire Mr. Debtos activism, although I dont always agree with him. However, allowing this little piece of ridiculousness to offend him is a little beneath him. Dont be so sensitive Arudo, its completely harmless. I also think it insults the intelligence of the Japanese people to suggest that this will somehow play to their xenophobic tendencies. How will this contribute to a fear of foreigners (which is what xenophobia really is)? I`m sure most will see it for what it really is, simply a campaign using a dorky white guy to sell bad-tasting chicken, and nothing more.

    It aint the fat thats the problem. Its the added sugar. Mostly its just candy-in-a-box masquerading as something healthy. It will rot your teeth and make you fat.

    The really cruel thing about the way the DP is carried out here is that the condemned is never given a date. They are never told that the order for their execution has been signed. These guys would never have known that today would be their last. The guards just show up for you and haul you off to the gallows. By the time you realise what is going on you`re standing on the trapdoor.

    There`s no justification for that.

    @BeaverCleaver

    sigh Well have to agree to disagree on whether its a growth industry or not. If you have reliable stats which establish that the audience for this material is relatively constant, Ill concede the point. The same goes for whether or not its a growth industry.

    All hedging aside, your answer is "yes, it`s okay to eroticize children".

    So, if I follow your argument; there will always be people who will get their freak on to this type of material, therefore we should appease them by supplying it, since it does more good than harm to encourage these people to think that having sexual fantasies about children is okay. Therefore, exploiting children for the sexual gratification (and profit) of adults is actually doing society a favour. Afterall, it doesn`t do any damage, and we are all better off because of it.

    That`s your argument?! Sorry BC, I appreciate the vigour with which you defend your arguments, but this is simply wrong on so many levels, and to believe this argument is simply naive. There are consequences for allowing, even encouraging, people to believe that having sexual fantasies about children is okay.

    Im sure you can think of a few. Again, well just have to agree to disagree on this point.

    Clearly, I was being circumspect when I wrote "some". It doesn`t undermine the argument though.

    Do you think it`s okay to eroticise children? Is that your point? I had trouble following your "rant".

    If you eroticize children, it is bound to stimulate some twisted idiots out there, who will in turn demand more of the same. The demand feeds the growth of the industry, which then tests the limits of their so-called freedom by encouraging the parents of ever younger girls to put their children in harms way for a quick buck and the spurious promise of a future "career".

    It can`t be justified. Even the apologists for this type of product know it.

    There is no such thing as a "free" society. All freedoms have limits to the extent that the exercise of your "freedom" will impact others in your "society". Those restrictions protect everyone, particularly the vulnerable. Children are the most vulnerable in our society, and we vest the policy-makers and law-makers with the obligation of protecting them and others. But of course, they are not solely responsible.

    This industry belittles society, and diminishes it`s dignity. How can anyone tolerate this? These are children who have no capacity to appreciate the consequences of their actions. Parents, and society at large should know better.

    Eroticizing children for profit is NOT a grey area. It`s not acceptable.

    The driver, in all liklihood, was busy texting, and speeding, and smoking. He may have also had a small animal in his lap with it`s head out the drivers side window.

    When are people going to understand that they operating a dangerous piece of machinery; it requires skill and vigilence.

    @Disillusioned

    I saw a similar incident in a Department store, on the escalators. A perv was "upskirting" some schoold girls with a video camera he had in his man-bag, which was resting on his knee, just a few cm`s below the hem of the girls skirts. They were going up and I was on the other escalator going down, when I saw it I pointed at him and started yelling that he was filming up the girls skirts and started laughing. It got everyones attention. The guy was so embarrased he took off past the girls up the escaltor.

    I know he got away, but it was an effective way to stop him without getting arrested for assault. It is an unfortunate fact of life here that the foreigner will always be the "most suspect" person first, especially where they try to intervene in these situations, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt draw attention to it.
