    Well if China is subsidizing their oil companies, hey are they state owned any way or what??? Besides that... fine what China does I live in the US and I see the oil companies making record profits while people are losing their homes.. Let us praise China if one wishes, but I will stay focused what is and has been going on in this country.

    It is strange to see as a business owner and seller of gasoline , the price of gas being 3.00 a gallon when prices of oil was 70.00 a barrel and a year later again gasoline at 3.00 a gallon when price per barrel hit 100.00 a barrel.. This shows what these oil companies have been doing. I have had to watch this go on for 32 years and because of always wondering what 8,000 gallons was going to take to purchase, I have followed it very closely to see when the 30,000.00 a tanker full was going to come to reality.

    This is fact about 3.00 a gallon at 70.00 a barrel and 3.00 a gallon at 100.00 a barrel..

    These oil companies are ripping us big time!!!!!!!!!! No one is and has been doing anything about it as these oil companies rake in record profits…

    I would like to see taxes collect from the tax on the windfall profits, fund a group of scientists to come up with the alternative energy source and put it into production, sponsored and overlooked by the government.. Socialism? Communism? If so then we need a little of that. There are too many companies ripping off the public these days and this goes especially for the oil companies! Something needs done... I am hoping it will finally be Obama that takes action and sets a new direction for this country , not only with this energy issue but with trade issues and every other circumstances that has developed that has pu t us on the loosing end as a consumer and as a country. One can not blame it all on Bush though, because we have been getting sold out for the last 20 -30 years, Bush has just had a hand in furthering the situation. Dem and Repubs are all the same, let us hope the character issue will come into play this time.

    Well if we go towards hybrids and alternatives fuels, this will bring down oil demand and all these oil based produces will have no reason to increase in prive and by all means come down in expense.

    We have a small convenient store and the price of plastic caused just a single bottle of soda to take a jump in price a couple of times over the last couple of years. Of course it effect everything, from shipment of raw materials to the production line and shipment out, let alone the oil based products themselves. All is a chain reaction from the basic raw material to the finished products and those products reaching the center where they will be used. Tremendous additional costs all the way around. A little here, a little there, and through who knows how many hands by the time a product reaches the consumer. Just the shipments alone along the process of getting to a final destination and making of a finished product is cost upon cost.

    When and if the reliance can come down on oil, all the better for all of us that is not part of the industry associated with petroleum. Plus there are many synthetic alternatives to those items such as lubricants, and as for clothing, maybe it is time to go back to natural fibers and earth friendly materials. As you said, at one time oil based products where cheap.. Not any more!.

    But as for gasoline and diesel, we are getting the blunt end of the stick over and over again from travel to products bought from the beginning as being the raw materials itself.. These increases in oil and what ever the profits that are being made at the refineries is taking its toll on every day life and every day activities. All that is being spent , or should say given to the oil companies, is not being spent on other items… One only has a limit to funds available. Although oil and all associated with the expense increase, this does not put more money in ones pocket. Seems OPEC should be considered a monopoly…..What are these countries doing with all this extra income,, geez!!!! Time to go straight forward to alternatives. Like our technology is not there yet. I think this is a farce!

    Well... why can't we here in the US come together as a society and unite people together and rally against buying al products from a communist country called China that is aggresively building a massive military aimed directly at us as they say they see us as their only furture threat???

    Maybe S. Koreans are a little more on top of things as a society and cares more about the issues than people here in the US that could give a rat's butt about anything but their day to day existance and well being and have no interst in what the future holds and at the same time throwing national security and morals out the window..... Not that I do not like China or anything... but hey, S. Korea seems to be using a united voice....

    MPL I like to comment on that a little. The people are not at fault as for what they believe because of the teachings that the government has laid out for the people to be exposed to throughout life under this regime. Just as any closed society. China’s leaders are still trying to keep the society as isolated as possible just as MichealJP has laid out in his post.

    Then there is the nationalism that the CCP has projected into society and I may say,, just for the CCP's own use as a controlling force.

    This goes as well with the Olympics.. The Peoples Olympics???? Will HU have his portrait hung on the entrance of the venues??? Of course these are the mindset and thinking of communist leaders today and in the past. Just as Sadam Husien had his portraits hanging thinking he should be worshiped by the peons, under him. China is a resemblance of Nazi Germany and the games fall right in line with this mindset of the leaders of CHina. All a projection of just how powerful we are and thrive for.. This is not the mindset of “ we are a peaceful nation” this is the projection of “we want to be dominate”

    All of this projection of power comes along with what we are seeing Beijing backing off the promises they have made about the Olympics just as they have backed off promises when joining the WTO..

    I do not hate people that are only ignorant to facts, but will confront them on the issues even if it hurts their feelings. The truth is the truth and if it hurts then that is too bad. This does not mean all should ignore the facts and bring them into the spotlight. Same with the Olympics, China has been awarded them so China must face all that comes with them and that includes ridicule from the promises they are breaking made when the decision was to let them host the Olympics. All have every RIGHT to confront China on these issues, maybe eventually they will see the light and eventually the people that have been so blindly lead by the CCP will understand what problems lie within their government that the rest of us are against.

    Also I am not saying that all Chinese, or the majority of Chinese should be categorized as being ignorant to the facts or influenced in such a twisted way that the CCP wishes all could be , but many are and have been influenced in such a way by this government of China and I am certain no one needs to point out the specifics to back this remark. One would just have to look at the crisis the government of China suddenly established within China society last year with the issue of Japan and the backlash the government propaganda caused within China's society against the Japanese.. I guess you see nothing wrong with this and call this the great openness of the CCP for China. These leaders have not changed, and all changes within China has come from pressure and also the leaders of China’s outlook of how to gain the power they have longed for, sacrificing 10 of millions of Chinese trying to get. Still these leaders are using deception and lies to get there as we see with this issue of the Olympics and promised commitments that they are trying to get out of, and no one should let them!!!!!!!!! Or make excuses for them!!!!!!!

    Now if these guys where selected and elected by the people then the two could be connected, but not when these guys are self empowered with out the voice of the people they are suppose to be representing as with a free democratic society.. as most of us that post here are from. Then these leaders would represent the views of the people and the will of the people.. This is no way describing China and that is where the seperation of the CCP and the people come into play. So do not try and make my words be about the people. They are not. My words are of the CCP!

    All one has to do is look at the facts and how and why China is where it is today.

    The hunger of power and the giving into certian conditions set by others to get there.. You talk about the people. I am not. I am talking about those that have complete control over the people.. The CCP!!!!

    Granted that China wishes it could continue its secretive stance on everything, but can not because of promises it has made but now as a norm trying to back away from.

    This is typical China leadership and these facts are reported time and time again of the tightening of all such as internet and news..

    This is not new and this is not China trying to open up! give me a break from such nonsense propaganda!!!

    I just donot get any of this. Sending spacecrafts to Mars explorers to Pluto and with all this technology they can not, or is it , "they do not want alternative enery sources"???

    This is a sham by our leaders and governments!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I know a few that has been there and back home, I run a rural bussiness, and as for these guys going over there risking their lives I could never say that about any of them especially over the Koran, Some BS that has only brought about extreme thinking and hate and death towards others. Maybe not by all, but that is the basis of it.

    I do not see anyone victimizing one of our soldiers as for the good they are there to do. If anything. stand up for them and try understand the pressures they are under from the conditions and circumstances they are facing on a daily basis..

    Maybe he is representing the face of the US but on the other hand he is human and humans have feelings and also limits.

    Sure no one wants to se more deaths of anyone on either side or of around the world as a whole but as for misjudgments by individuals there are many issues playing in the part of ones actions and should not be seen as the villain after that person has served and paid his dues in such a hostile environment. I stand up for him and not those extremists that want to make him some evil.

    So you can have your view and opinion and I will keep mine.  Shooting a Koran.. If that relieved his pain, good for him! The extremists can suffer as they have made many suffer because of such senseless beliefs of the extreme.

    Our soldiers and commanders in Iraq have had a worthless bunch of advisors and military planners from the start, especially once they reached Baghdad which was so widely publicized as such a record advance, then not knowing what to do as all sat back and watched the place destroyed by looting and all other acts of violence, also extremist gathering in groups as extremist leaders inspired 1000’s at a time out in the open on the streets infront of the soldiers, telling the people to kill and stand against the invaders while the troops stood, watching and listening and at the same time more and more people are convinced to fight against those there to give them a better life.. The whole strategy of this war was based on incompetence and some of these guys over their have all reason to be disgusted and full of hate for the religion of Islam when there are so many extremists that base their lives on hatred and death to others, and our guys and gals over there on the receiving end of it.

    You have your views , I have mine. What he did may not be good on the relations part of the scheme, but hey, you are not in his position..

    adaydream,, please control yourself.. If it is his book he can do with it as he pleases no matter where he is at and that is what he done. As I read others opinions about the bible and defacing it or flags being burnt, hey it happens all the time all over the world..

    I do not care where it is and who it is, what you do with one of your possession is your business and many times it is to show your dislike to a certain issue or circumstance and all have that right as for being from a free democracy. Do not stoop or bow to those that support control over others as it seems you are trying to commit to. If this is your choice, fine, go move to one of these countries where you can have your life controlled and ruled by another.

    Of course the military will take action concerning this issue just for the fact of relations with the general ideology of what I see as radicals that are the ones that are keeping the ciaos alive over there. All we need is more softness in taking control of the situation that from the beginning got completely out of hand from trying to play good guy to all sides, take for instance extremist Sadar, one that should have been disposed of right from the start but still around threatening peace and stability in Iraq and warning all out killing of US service men and that was before this incident .

    If someone wants to target practice with a bible, hey that is their right if it is their's, It is not hurting me even if I am a christian. Just makes me feel they have a negative issue with it. There are more! This part of being part of acivilized culture, something that can not be said for some of these people over there.... GEEZ!!!!!!!!
