As long as there are actively hostile countries such as North Korea in the region the US Army will always be "welcomed" in Japan. The US strategically wants North Korea to stay hostile so they would always have justification for their existence.

I think it will be a success. China has worked extremely hard to present it's first ever Olympic Games. Mountains and rivers have been moved because of the games. The only possible obstruction is nature.

Manga and anime yeah I believe it does draw a lot of fans. I have several friends who are deep into anime - which automatically makes them interested in Japan.
