On the bright side, historical accounts seem to indicate that they have lovely singing voices.

Uh. Doesn't quite work like that.

I have ten of one and none (of my own) of the other. Can't say it's ever been a problem.

Touche. Though I dare say you might take a different position if you were in possession

I don't think this is on the same level as the issue of FGM. Sure she could have found other ways to extract revenge, But no matter how much you discuss it there are going to be very few if any people who will disagree that the guy deserved it,

I'll go on record to say he didn't deserve it. You don't get to mutilate people, no matter how horrible they are. If he is a batterer then he should be in jail, not in a hospital. And I have trouble seeing your point about FGM, as well, unless you mean it isn't institutionalized.

A penis is worth more than a finger?

I'd say it is. I mean, I have 10 of one and only one of the other.

I keep hearing from the left that the Tea Party movment is nothing but a bunch of klansmen with their robes off. So are you telling me that is just some of the same old smear of guilt by association?

So you thought since the smears against the teaparty were unfair that you'd turn around and smear the OWS movement?

Wiki, again: "A sap is a flat-profiled, leather-covered lead rod, fitted with a spring handle.[2] It is also the name for a weapon of similar design (also called a slapper, slap jack or beavertail sap). A sap has a flat profile as opposed to a cylindrical profile of a blackjack, and spreads its impact out over a broader area, making it less likely to break bone. It was primarily used for head strikes, intended to stun an opponent or render him unconscious."

A blackjack is sometimes wrongly referred to as a sap.

Ok, what is a "sap" then? This article has me all confused.

Don't credit me; the strategy benhind this is pretty transparent.

And now Obama will cut the bill to peices and force congress to vote on every single one of them. And republicans, because of their political position, will have to publicly vote NO on every single job-creating item. He is going to rake them over the coals.

I'm sorry, but this is going to look very bad, save to a minority of right-wing partisans.

Nothing in your article indicates the girl did not want the encounter or is even upset over it.

In most first world countries a 12 year-olds consent is legally irrelevant.

    BlueWitch,

That article is horrifying. The attidues toward rape exhibited by the court are positively prehistoric.

Despite the impressions caused by media coverage (where rapes by servicemen get big headlines while rapes by locals are largely ignored), having a base nearby does not equal a significantly elevated risk of rape.

That said, servicemen are guests in the countries that host them, and therefore should be held to a higher standard. One will reluctantly tolerate all sorts of behavior from a family member that would not be acceptable from a guest in one's home. It is the military's job to maintain order and discipline, not only for the sake of diplomatic relations but for the sake of the local populace as well. I hope that justice is served in both these cases (whatever that may entail) and that it is a long time before we have to hear about this sort of thing again.
