... uh, you do know that they don't just let you wander around free after determining you to be incompetent to stand trial.

Looks like the Cain Train is sunk.

(That's not a mixed metaphor - it flew off the track and then fell directly into a lake.)

Eh. I'm not particularly terrified that China is refrubishing and ancient soviet aircraft carrier. The US has a grand total of 11 Nuclear Supercarriers. China (along with the rest of the world) is lightyears behind.

All this aquisition does is to serve as evidence that China is on the rise. But you already knew that. So relax.

Doesn't feel so good when it happens to you, right? Maybe if you think of them as the South-West Asian branch of the "Occupy" movement, only with possibly better hygiene than their American compatriots, this can be spun as a positive event.

Wow, this is dumb. Word about town is that the "protesters" were all Basij Militia.

First the Arab League and Syria, and now Russia and Iran. Hard to get a better indication than this that "you've gone too far."

    TigermothII,

Hi. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was you specifically that had gone of the deep end. It was more a general commentary, triggered by the seeing "Obama is a complete failure" statements over and over. In retrospect, I should have made that clear in my orignal post.

and that choice has been tried and proven to be an utter disaster.

...and this is where it becomes apparent that we are living on different planets.

This doesn't match up to any sort of reality that I am aware of. I am, for the record, and independant voter. Sometimes I vote D, sometimes R, based on who I think has the best policies and leadership capabilities. It increasingly seems that large portions of the left and (especially) the right are off in their own little incestuous bubbles, reading their own self-gratifying news sources and sounding off in their own comfortable echo chambers. And the only time the come out is to do battle - volume turned up to 11 - with "the enemy." And, to a neutral observer, it seems like everyone has gone insane.

Has Obama been a perfect president? Certainly not (not by a long shot). But I am continually mystified by rightwingers who insist he is a fiendish-socialist-mastermind/total-incompetent/worst-president-evah and that it is painfully obvious that he has no chance at releection. Do you really believe that stuff, or is it all a part of some sort of campaign - if you repeat it loudly and frequently enough others will start to think it's true?

but there is a time and place and when the police order you to do something, you comply and if you don't, suffer the consequences, seems clear to me.

Would you be saying this if the police had used lethal force, a la Kent State? I'd be surprised.... Why is student-protestor failure to comply so much more important to you than blatant police over-reaction? Why are you not in the slightest bit concerned over police failure you act responsibly and according to their own guidlines? Which do you imagine poses the greater threat to the fabric of civil society: peaceful civil-disobedience or out-of-control police officers?

but the SOP I read on the pepper spray used was that it was not to be used closer than 10 feet away. It was deployed at less than 10 inches away.

    A point worth emphasizing.

Cain says what he means and he means what he says.

Cain is running for president. That pretty much ensures that candor is off the table.

Ronald Reagan would be rejected by a large portion of this crowd.

I think this is a point worth reiterating. Regan may be worshiped as a hero by the GOP, but Regan would never pass muster with today's fanatics. Regan raised taxes. Regan expanded the government. Regan *compromised." He'd be ridden out of town on a rail.

Newt's the smartest guy running, on both sides.

Is he, though? I mean, I know he is the GOP's self-proclaimed "idea man"... it's just that a lot of those ideas come off as, well, crazy-pants.

He did have a few moments of candor, though, which I appreciate - such as the "humane immigration policy" stand during the last debate, and his objection to the Ryan budget which almost cost him this primary election right out of the gate.

Isn't an "internet meme" nothing more than a distortion of reality? The creation of something that isn't true and has never been true? Lies that are accepted as reality by people who can't tell the difference anymore (if they ever could)?

That's a bizarre and whole incorrect definition of "meme." Like lostrune2 says, a "meme" is merely something that gets repeated over and over.

I take back what I said earlier:

That picture with Lt. Pike pepper spraying the constitution was absolutely priceless.

Would that be worse than 4 more years of President Obama?

Personally speaking, I think it would. But then you'll be shocked to learn that I don't think Obama has been a bad president.

That's not really what I was saying, though. Rather, I can't see the American voter electing Gingrich. He's very unlikable - and that's not just a personal sentiment, but rather is reflected in his unfavorable ratings. I think Romney has a much better chance to beat Obama.
