To topple a government is one thing, the aftermath is one another. First, most rebels are not Syrian. Next, in the midst of the political vaccum, don't think the country will suddenly become a model of democracy. Maybe the western powers are thinking to install some diaspora leaders not representing the Syrian people either. Assad, when it comes to dictatorship he is pretty bad but choosing for the lesser evil, I'd choose Assad but I have nothing to say nor to take the right to take the decision to bomb them. The population is taken between a dictator that doesn't want to leave and foreign interests.
