without having to endure the ridicule that was hurled at them by the fringe left during Bush's tenure and when GWB tasked them to carry out his orders.

We carried out bush's orders to the letter. Ask any general.

wolfpack - BO's surge in Afghanistan prompts more questions than answers.

And it prompts more hope and inspiration in us troops than bush's "plan". Ask any troop.

Do the job and bring all the troops home. Never going to happen.

USN - Like hell it won't. If you've given up on the mission, separate from the service.

“I want the American people to understand that we have a clear and focused goal: to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al-Qaida in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and to prevent their return to either country in the future,” Obama said. “That’s the goal that must be achieved. That is a cause that could not be more just.”

Inarguably true words spoken by a great man. Wow, after eight years of the other guy, I've almost forgotten what it's like to have a CinC; we're damn glad to have this one!

Ah, the religion of peace, working its way to power in our our "ally", Pakistan. Things look bright, don´t they.

No, they look awful. That's why President of the United States of America Barack Hussein Obama is sending us to eradicate these terrorists.

What in h*ll does squandering more Western lives and ressources in order to prop up a Shariah regime in Afghanistan have to do with 9/11?? What a ridiculous justification.

The only thing ridiculous here is your belief that you could possibly twist my statement in condoning "propping up a Shariah regime in Afghanistan".

I want justice for 9/11, you moron, something your buddy george w. bush never had the balls to pursue. Justice for 9/11 is something any real American would want.

Not so much pro-war as pro-justice-for-9/11. Or (dare I actually say it!) have you forgotten?

Nobody cares what the GOP thinks, at least not any real American. The Republicans are simply ramping up their pathetic scare tactics in the wake of having lost the election.

And which party controlled Congress for years before 2006, years in which the financial mess began, as adaydream inarguably rightfully pointed out? Checking...

Yeah, it's the goddamn Republican "party"!

Good grief, what's gonna happen when there's a terrorist attack or a major international crisis?

Obama will whine about how he inherited those problems.

Obama is the Milli Vanilli of U.S. politics.

Obama'll just hand our country over to our enemies without any pre-conditions.

Also the mid-terms will be here soon enough and the Republicans will pick up enough seats to prevent the Democratic super majority that we have now.

ROTFLMAO! You un-American right-winger types are hilarious! Please keep the comedy coming!

Now, for those of us who actually care about America:

“I realize there are those who say these plans are too ambitious to enact,” Obama said in his weekend address. “To that I say that the challenges we face are too large to ignore. I didn’t come here to pass on our problems to the next president or the next generation — I came here to solve them.”

The American people sent us here to get things done, and at this moment of great challenge, they are watching and waiting for us to lead,” Obama said. “Let’s show them that we are equal to the task before us.”

We did, and we are, Mr. President. Thank you from a grateful America, especially those of us in the US military, for your outstanding leadership and the hope you provide us all.

Obama mocked Republican officials who call his plans too costly even though they presided over huge deficits while they controlled Congress and the White House.

“Where have you been?” he said. “What have you been doing?”

    Exactly, exactly.

I support the people who liberated Iraq and continue to bravely confront evil.

    Thank you.

"I've never supported this war" Then you've supported keeping Saddam in power.

    Wrong. You already know why.

"Bring the troops home" Nah, President Obama's sending them to Afghanistan.

Good move. You already know why.

Sorry to confuse you, Ronin. Let me clarify:

    Your comment:

Bin Laden is in a hole in the ground somewhere... for the rest of his life.

    My comment:

I'll believe that when I see OBL hanging dead from a noose and not one second sooner.

That's clear enough for a rational adult. Btw, what the hell is "Rapponji"?

Yet when I say I support a fight against those who killed my friends on 9-11 I am called a bigot.

Not by my colleagues and me, skip. We've been wanting to go after OBL in force for over seven years now.

Question/skip: valid points. I don't like the idea of a one-party country, either. Realizing that both parties have their corrupt members, I could argue that the conditions for establishing a third party are pretty good right about now. However, the Republican "party" has brought about its own demise; if America were to ever become a one-party nation, its because the Republicans weren't up to the task of remaining a viable party, one that America could identify with. Simply put, the Republicans have put the Democrats in the position of being America's only significant political party. I agree that one party isn't enough, but we have only the Republicans to blame for not keeping the playing field level.

Frankly, if someone could establish a party that can do better than the Democrats, then by all means, let me know. It just won't be the Republicans. Americans just don't trust them anymore.

    vor-

Time for Americans to neutralize the King who is robbing America of its future.

I sincerely hope that's not a threat against our President. Now where's that number to the Secret Service...?

“Done right, earmarks have given legislators the opportunity to direct federal money to worthy projects that benefit people in their districts. And that’s why I’ve opposed their outright elimination,” he [Obama] said.

Wow! A President that actually expects legislators to work on behalf of their constituents! That's inarguably a significant change from the trash that took up space in the White House for the past eight years.

Still, the president acknowledged the storm of criticism from watchdog groups, talk show hosts and many Republican lawmakers — including some who have obtained earmarks — who call them wasteful and politically motivated.

Typical Republican hypocrisy. No wonder the Republican "party" is dying; I look forward to its inevitable demise, entirely of its own making.

But a statement issued by the committee’s chairman, David Obey, D-Wis, hinted at irritation with the public’s focus. “With all of the hyperventilating over the 1 percent of the omnibus appropriations bill that is made up of earmarks,” he said, “Washington has mostly glossed over the important results it has achieved with the other 99 percent of the bill.”

The public focuses on the "1 percent" because of Republican fearmongering, hatemongering, and jealousy. Happily, Americans are slowly but surely wising up to the dishonorable and disgusting practices of the Republican "party".

I thank Christ each day for making me intelligent enough to vote for Obama, and by extension, for a better America. I simply can't wait for the '10 and '12 elections; the Americans (a.k.a. Democrats) are going to put the final nail in the Republicans' coffin. Sweet!

You and those like you willing to turn a blind eye or make excuses for Obama may not, but there is a growing contingency on the left that sees this as an act of betrayal.

And as long as the Republican "party" continues its out-of-control downward spiral, that "growing contingency on the left" will continue seeing the Republicans as the greater betrayers.

Thats okay, less than two years to the mid term election.

It certainly is okay; we Democrats (Americans) are gonna hand you Republicans (traitors) your asses yet again. Care to bet?
