I don't know, but many people believe in God (and probably an afterlife that follows) because of a sincere belief in their own experience, not just because of what 'religion' tells them to believe.

Those 'miracles' at Lourdes and Fatima... Doubters who weren't there say all those folks were experiencing the same delusions at the same time. I don't know, but I'm skeptical of an explanation that writes off such complex events so easily.

Lars, of course the UN created the 'state of Israel'.

And, Sabi, I'm not sayin' anything favorable about the UN here. They're more your buds than mine. I'm just stating a simple fact that you and Lars don't like bein' put out.

If you want to blame someone, go after the UN.

I heard him talk and he was ticked off. He said it only frees two thirds of the slaves. It only gives two thirds of the women the right to vote. It makes insurance companies profits skyrocket because folks are mandated by law to pay for insurance. That talk about slavery and women are his examples, his anger... his wake-up call that insurance 'big business' are gonna make out big time.

The boy's one crazy, unhappy camper, I'd say. But that's normal for him.

    Whoops!

Michael Moore was on the tube foamin' at the mouth because he just learned that 'insurance company profits' will skyrocket as President Obama that folks are mandated to pay for health insurance.

Insurance companies are undertandably quiet on this... which was there all the time if socialist engineers had stopped to think about it.

    Now whattaya gonna do? Whoops...

For those that have convinced themselves there is no God and no life after death, are you sure you want to spend your time on cyberspace threads? Maybe it's fitting... In a way, you've entered a form of non-existence where anything means nothing anyway. Good practice.

    Heh, heh...

For those that believe in God and an afterlife, dya think He wants ya livin' the precious life he's given you here, too?

Bein' agnostic, I is perplexed by the whole conundrum.

Nippon, ultimately it has no meaning then. Any good you may do... any bad... ultimately it means nothing. It will be as if you'd never existed at all.

Nessie, but contrary to Mrs. Russell's teapot, many humans believe they have come to experience God through a variety of manner.

If you've come to believe that your existence ultimately means absolutely nothing... I dunno.

Cleo, can we put you down as 'atheist' who wishes she wasn't?

You can put me down as agnostic who hopes there is... largely for selfish reasons up front.

I don't think there's anyone on this thread who knows one way or the other. Why wasn't that an option to answer?

If there is no God, and if there is no afterlife, then nothing we do ultimately means anything. Ultimately, our existence would be meaningless no matter how much emotion may make us feel otherwise.

    Lars...

"The United States is the leading provider of bilateral economic and development assistance to the Palestinians, having provided an estimated $2.9 billion since 1994 for programs in the areas of water and sanitation, infrastructure, education, health care, economic growth, and democracy. The United States also is committed to continuing assistance for basic human needs in both the West Bank and Gaza, including emergency food, health care, and access to safe water and sanitation systems..."

    "...the leading provider..."

    That's from the USAID.gov website.

Kindly stop knockin' my country by omitting how much the US does for Palestinians in your posts.

The something we need to do is cut Israel off.

What? And stop backin' the only democracy in the ME? Not likely.

By the by, the United Nations created the 'state of Israel', not the United States. Talk to them. We're not goin' anywhere.

Realist, I agree with you on the 'global warmining' bunkum bidness, but I think the PC true believers want us to use 'climate change' instead 'cause their paradigms on this issue change faster than their underwear.

I gotta get me one of those side-view mirrors for those that like to cross outside the crosswalk.

gombei... Most Americans don't want ObamaCare.

If President Obama didn't bribe a few congressmen and women in the last two weeks this wouldn't have happened.

Since you obsess darkly about America, are you gonna say you're unaware that most Americans didn't support Obama on this?

His first six months in office reflected the fastest drop in popularity of any American president. Obama doesn't have near the kind of popular support you want to believe he has.

Most Americans aren't behind President Obama. What incentive is there for me or anyone else to get behind this disaster.

    Californian?

Heh, heh... Haven't you bankrupted your state enough? The rest of the forty-nine states hope we don't go the way of California. Sacre bleu. Sacramento...

    Heh... Ya never loins.

    We need to do something...

Like what, m'am? People who believe as you do have been impotent on this issue since what... 1947? ...48?

Best get on with livin' your own life and worry about things in your own backyard. This is good advice unless you enjoy bein' constantly frustrated.

Sushi, one thing 'socialism' means to me is that a government makes laws that says it can better decide how to spend more of my own money than I can.

I wonder what kind of health insurance you think I've budgeted myself to be able to afford.

I'm not a member of the GOP and can't ever see myself bein' one. That's true for a lot of folks who have fundamentally the same values I do. Try not to let that word 'fundamentally' make sphincter automatically pucker.
