It would be fun to stick your keitai in a bag and then talk on this thing in public...c'mon, you know you want to try it....the looks from passers-by would be "priceless"...

I know plenty of hakken workers (finance IT) here in Tokyo who make between 800,000 - 1,000,000 base per month, before OT. Obviously, highly skilled people - they can and certainly do have houses and crotchfruit, etc. If you are standing in an assembly line clicking widgets together, it may tough.

With these Japanese pre-paid cards, anyone can use them: tourists, young children, homeless, etc; you don't need a bank account. Also, if you lose them, only the money on the card is gone, generally a small amount. Losing a bank card is slightly more serious. However, I see you your point, you should be able to use credit/debit cards anywhere, too. Let the consumer decide the convienience vs risk.

rajakumar - Google is not a telecommunications company, so they aren't trying to beat them.

I live next door to the shacho (son of the founder who passed away last year) of Nissin, so I am getting a kick out of this. Have to admit I haven't eaten instant ramen in years. There's Ippudo nearby - not bad, always a big line.

Love it - runs a driving school by day, barman at night...he certainly looks the part.

He acts like their system is so great - I wonder if they have less accidents per mile driven than other countries? I took the driving test here in Tokyo to convert my US license. Passed it without any darn lessons but there were other gaijin taking it for the 3rd time or even failing after 4 tries, nerve-wracking since I went after them. Just play their game and keep your head on a swivel and save yourself the dosh.

Wife's college friend (rather scrumptious, I might add)did it during school at a Ginza club and earned oodles. Joined a publisher and quickly become one of the top salespeople nationwide. She learned excellent communication skills and can laugh at my oyaji gags and make me think I'm the only person alive...

Actually, by far the majority of the employees of the gaishi IBs are Japanese. Can't speak in detail as to thier morals but the ladies do seem open to suggestion after a few bevvies.

We've used (and will use again soon) Ikuryo Clinic in Naka-Meguro - quite good, all private rooms, clean and very flexible (I coached/filmed the birth). Regarding fish, restrictions have to do with mercury in larger/older predatory fish and also parasites in raw fish. However, the benefits of Omega-3s, etc to the embryos neurological development can't be dimissed either. My wife ate a decent amount of fish during her first pregancy but kept the maguro and kajiki to a few times a month & our boy seems fine with no dain bramage at all.

Baseball and softball are simply played in too few countries globally and have way too many players, coaches, etc involved. Along with the special stadiums required, this puts a huge strain on accomodations, schedules and costs. They never belonged in the Olympics and I'm personally happy they'll be gone. Basketball, volleyball, field hockey and volleyball are the types of sports that are enjoyed globally (relatively) and put less strain on the whole enterprise.

Took a stroll down Omotesando on a fine spring day years ago with the girlfriend at the time, who happened to be a fellow gaijin. Not a cause and effect but we didn't last long after that...

Unless the gaijin gal is rather attractive, most of them are rather hard-up and bitter in my experience. Just stroll down Omotesando on a spring afternoon and you'll see that the average gaijin guy would rather have a bit of intercultural communications.

thepossum - Sorry to hear that, maybe they've overexpanded too much and quality has suffered accordingly... Been a fan ever since I went to the original on the North Shore of Oahu about 15 yrs ago but haven't been in 2+ yrs. Have a grill at home now so I do my own just like I ordered...

Try Kuai Aina (various locations: Aoyama, Kanda, Gotanda, Marunouchi)or my favorite Franklin Ave in Gotanda (the nice part). Both are excellent and it is always a good sign when they ask you how you'd like it cooked and it takes a while to prepare. AS Classics is near Komazawa Koen and isn't bad either.
