Tokyo in 2050: Futuristic super-hub or graying has-been?
2050? I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that Tokyo will indeed be futuristic in the future.

I agree that this hysteria over a nuclear-powered vessel is unwarranted, but the claims of a double-standard here are misplaced. There is only a double-standard if the ones complaining about the Washington are saying that domestic nuclear power is safe. I see nothing to support that - it may be true, but based on the info presented here, it's supposition and yet another example of the tendency to collectively blames "Japan" on JT.

Much as I despise Holocaust denial, I voted "No" because offensive opinions like Holocaust denial should be in the public eye so that they can be ridiculed and shown for the garbage that they are.
As I'm sure many of fellow JTers will demonstrate on this topic...

Nonsense - no Japanese I know condone this, and it is hardly "normal", and crap rationalizations like yours do nothing to help Japan's reputation. As a Japanese friend said - "Japan is the pervert capital of the world", and much as I generally like and respect Japanese culture, I bet even an LDP politician would come out and say that simulated rape is part of Japanese culture.

If it's a toss-up between less of a job and no job, it's a no-brainer, particularly if you could somehow leverage it into a new job. But if they expect the same level of productivity, maybe not.

Much as I agree that the majority of foreigners who "teach" English are a sorry lot, they can't be all to blame. Katakana pronunciation all the way...

90% of pop music in any country is crap, maybe 95% in Japan. That being said, this article is pretty poorly written and is the journalistic equivalent of J-Pop.

There is undoubtedly a huge element of victor's justice in comparison of Allied and Japanese war atrocities, however some kind of statement from Aso wold sure help things. However, it goes against the LDP DNA so we'll never see such apologies until the LDP has finally imploded and Japan can actually get a government of the people.

"Us"? Who is this "you" and "us" you refer to?
I meant that there are many foreigners in Japan with a chip on their shoulder who would see such signs as racism. Personally, I don't see how refusing tourists (Japanese as well) to one part of Tsukiji (not the whole market), could be so insulting/racist to some, but I don't have such a thin skin about such things.
Some is frozen, but the simple fact it that fresh seafood doesn't really stink.
Fair enough, everyone has different views about what's fun. I enjoyed Tsukiji but once is probably enough, whereas aquariums are good for repeat visis.

But I will agree that getting all your news about Japan from NHK is a bad idea, as is getting all your news about Japan from JT.

That's anathema to the JT hoi polloi. Being judgemental and throwing up ad hominems in advance (revealings biases in the process) is soooo much easier, as per the post just before mine.

smith;
Finally, a good point...
There is always a chance of a war between China and Japan, but NOT over NK. The Chinese gov't and people are hardly as enamored of NK as you seem to think they are. The only reason the PRC supports NK is to avoid having a humanitarian disaster on its border - thinking that it would attack Japan over NK shows an amazing lack of knowledge about the area and the relationship between those countries.
The nuclear test had nothing to do with Japan, at least not primarily. It was another bargaining chip for NK in the Six-Party talks. You really need to get over this infatuation you seem to have with blaming Japan for everything that goes on regarding NK.

shreeree;
Tsukiji does not smell of fish, and it's a wholesaler market, not meant for the average J person either. Having signs to tell people things which are common sense like "don't touch"? That would be labeled as racism too.

Sorry - nothing unreasonable with this statement and approach except to those with some irrational axe to grind about "Japan".
