Obviously it doesn't break any laws in Japan, no matter how this group dislikes it. It's a great tool (actually slightly addictive) and I've used it in Japan and the US to great effect, but not here in Canada as we've yet to allow it to run even the Google mobiles have already been and gone snapping their pics. I hope this group isn' big or influential.

William Silk is a young man who is destined to become a legend on the internets for his rampant and flagrant sock-puppetry. Word is that he is already hard at work inventing new JT user names.

Sounds typical - see that kind of behaviour here a lot on JT, i.e. equating "foreigner" with white, English speaker when those folks are a minority amongst foreigners in Japan.

The rudest thing that ever happened to me in Japan was when someone asked me if I was an English teacher. That's borderline slander, I'd say.

Hotels in Japan are not that expensive. If you think they are, you're either not doing your research or not earning enough.

I was talking about photographing buildings (nad it's lack of illegality) in response to your original post on that topic, not about the photographic tribulations of soccer moms, which is irrelevant to the orignal discussion I thought we were having.
Moderator: Exactly. Readers, please stop going around in circles.

If so, they would've been sued long ago for copyright violaiton and Street View wouldn't exist. Think about it.

The blueprints and design are IP, but taking photos is not protected and in many countries it's specifically stated.
No you won't.

That's nonsense and a very strict interpretation of copyrighted IP. You do NOT need a building owner of bridge designer's "permission" to take photos of and profit from pictures taken of public buildings from public places.

Common sense shown by all three leaders - they have more to gain by keeping relations good and more in common by keeping their economies interlinked, especially China.
And amazingly, Aso didn't day anything to PO the others.
And as for East Asia being an engine of growth - read "we've got the biggest foreign reserves, so we'll start making more of the rules."

Taking the elements of this article and the comments which I agree with, it backs up my thoughts that an economy with a mostly free market but also substantial "socialist" (not as a neo-con would use the word) elements are the best balance for economic growth and standard of living. Think of high tax but high standard of living place like Scandinavia or Canada, or even to a certain extent Japan. Hyper-capitalist places like the US or China, with less of a social safety net, are where the biggest fall is coming.

"Big 3"? The need for a bailout seems to imply that's the wrong name for them, unless "Big" refers to accumulated debt.

Very relevant point which many armchair experts have overlooked - let's see how it works first before rushing to judge it, though I doubt we'd expect to see such follow up on JT.

One of the things that I like about Japan is the fact that religion doesn't play a very big part in society, or as others have said, at least religion in the AngloSaxon sense of moralizing and proselytizing.
