Thinks it pretty-much a waste of space to see al of these posts on who was worse, Noriko or Chris

And then you promptly do just that...

What is most revolting about many of the comments here is the apparent willingness of posters to side with one or other of the parties based on nothing more than their nationality and/or gender. So just a typical day on JT, I guess.

How can either of them (legally) have dual citizenship? Japanese who take foreign citizenship are supposed to renounce their J citizenship and foreigners who take J citizenship are supposed to renounce their previous citizenships.

Joseph Smith: I have, in my possession, an ancient book written on gold plates that tells of Jesus Christ's second coming. Here, in America.

Martin Harris: In America? Really? That sounds kind of -

The point in this article is to try to convice all, that J women are sluts.. Spa seems obsessed with this ideal.

So are a lot of gaijin in Japan, male and female.

Wasn't he in Japan recently slogging around Taji itself, and was there a reason why he wasn't at risk of arrest then? I'm sure self-promotion has nothing to do with it being such an issue this time around.

No one should knock learning to cook, regardless of who's doing it.

    Then in the next paragraph...

they feel the need to go to these trendy and kawaii classes (or via their kids) to PRETEND to be learning. Now, if some actually DO learn something from the overexpensive classes instead of from family, friends, and/or cookbooks, great.

Consistency - it's so hard sometimes.

onewrldoneppl - thank you for so quickly proving my point. Well done either if you actually think that or on the off-chance that comment is satire.

Ah well, 'ai kawarazu', comments pulled from everyone's butts, based on imagination only. As usual.

Indeed - it would me nice to see more comments about pics like this without the moronic generalizations about "Japan" which often accompany them.

Kids are having fun learning to cook, and we know nothing about their home lifes. Take the pic at face value and enjoy it.

Agreed - what a waste of space, and this is a limited-time offer? Most lower-end hotels already include both, most middle and upper already charge for it, and people that stay at such places can afford to have Y1000 tacked onto the bill for internet access.

A lot of you are under the misapprehension that the Engrish is supposed to make sense to English speakers or be grammatically correct - ain't and ain't. Most of it is aimed at Japanese speakers and it's just meant to sound or look good or have some exotic foreign cachet - whether or not it makes sense to an English speaker is irrelevant. Besides, if it didn't exist then the excitable gaijin community would have to spend even more time talking about mayonnaise on pizza or how nobody sits beside them on the subway .

I think that anyone who thought that only the LDP could return Japan to its pre-1990 glory has realised their mistake, and voted accordingly

Well said - the LDP needs several years in the political wilderness to reform itself before it gets back any credibility, esp if the DPJ can smash the power of the bureaucracy.

I retract part of my previous statement after reading the TIME article - it's reasonably dismissive over the supposed uproar over Mr. James. But I still think he looks like an English teacher.

    Brainiac;

    I know Debito means well

I'm not sure he really does mean well, or at least it's secondary to his own self-aggrandizement, but regardless I'm sad that TIME has given him another soapbox to spout from.

Anyway, if I passed by Mr. James on the street I'd just assume that he was an English teacher.

I don't have a problem with tipping per se, but I do have a problem with the expectation that tipping is standard, no matter how crappy or indifferent the service. Tipping should only be given when the service is beyond the norm. When I moved back to Canada from Japan, I suffered serious culture shock at just how awful and downright surly bank tellers and restaurant staff were - a 7-11 clerk in Japan gives better customer service.
