everyone blaming the mother should step back a moment. They walked out to the garbage disposal area. In my neighborhood that is pretty much standing in the road. Mom had hands full of garbage and was setting them down. 1 year old kids wander away fast. She just wandered away at the wrong time. In my neighborhood sometimes people who technically are not speeding are still going too fast and I have seen far too many kids just bolt into the streets and the mothers running as fast as possible and the drivers slamming on the breaks as fast as possible.
Not sure if the man was paying close attention or driving too fast for a neighborhood but both parties didn't do anything on purpose and it is cruel to blame both of them heavily with so little evidence.

I would say some alcohol was involved if it was 1:30 in the morning. I live in Aichi neighboring Gifu and every Friday and Saturday night I see people swerving all over the road or people stopping and letting their passengers out to vomit.

Having visited a few Zoo's in Japan I wish they would give them better enclosures. Soil and grass is what this old girl should be feeling under her feet. I was so sad when I went to Higashiyama zoo..the enclosures are so different compared to the way they are in the Zoo's I visited in the US. In Japan it is all concrete and no natural environment..this cannot be said for all the animals but many of them it was this way.

this thing is disgusting and I can't believe it is coming to Japan. They can claim that this thing is less than 600 calories all they want but the fact is that if you add up each individual ingredient used to make the double down the calorie amount goes well over 900.

not everybody out there is over 40 years old Nicky...graphic tees and colored pants/shorts or whatever will look just fine together if the colors match and coordinate just like any other outfit.

I'm sorry but this is completely untrue! I am from the U.S. I did favors and sometimes people did favors in return because they WANTED to. Nobody ever walked over me and I never walked over them We certainly never did a favor expecting something in return. I move to Japan and every time someone has done me a favor I have been told I MUST give them something in return. Not a FAVOR but a GIFT. I have spent large amounts of money this first year living in Nagoya giving people gifts for telling me my hose burst and was spreading water in my back yard, or for borrowing a Yukata at the local Shimin Kaikan during one of my Japanese classes due to the fact a sudden downpour soaked my clothing and I was freezing. Most people would be happy with a "thank you so much for telling me!" or "thank you for letting me borrow this!" but no I am expected to give them expensive cakes and chocolates. Never had to do any of that in the U.S. a simple thank you was always enough.

I live in Komaki. Don't want anymore thieves there! it is getting worse and worse every year out here. I come across so many abandoned stolen bicycles on my way to and from classes and grocery shopping.

I was on the boat tour on Tenryu river last monday in Iida. The provided life jackets in the form of a cushion for you to sit on and did not require you to actually wear them..they were for emergencies only. this bothered me quite badly as many of the passengers were children and elderly.

poor boy! i wonder the same if he could have been saved had she not run. I was almost hit once crossing a walk way when the light was green for me and red for cars, warabi mochi truck was turning left onto the street I was cross and didn't even slow down, If I had not double checked before crossing I would have been hit.

i completely agree with the pulling on the childs arm telling them to hurry, I see it so much here kids legs are smaller than adults how can they keep with your pace? parenting ideas should be a top priority no matter what too many kids are neglected here and all over the world. my number 1 hate negligence here? leaving a child in a car alone!

while i can understand the looking at the screen while cycling but not being able to listen to your mp3 player? i'm sorry that's just stupid, i don't see what listening to your music has anything to do with it, you might as well outlaw playing your radio or cd's in your car as well while you're at it.

this is why i wait a little bit after looking both ways before crossing, maniacs like this are all over Japan, it's just really sad children and elderly get hit the most. One of my friends was hit recently on her bicycle crossing a road, luckily she wasn't hit hard.
