if you can beat em join em. the name of the game now is to reduce your tax liability and rely on government as much as possible. if Americans are entitled to health care, why pay for it out of your pocket?

Eight stimulus packages hasn't fixed Japan's economy, in fact the higher taxes resulting from borrowing against the future is only making things worse.

betzee, you summarized the problem well but have left out a critical item. Obama's little scheme is mostly designed to assist people who are already failing to pay their mortgage. It does little to nothing for those homeowners still paying their mortgages dutifully even though the value of the house is fair below the amount of the loan. All Obama is going to do is encourage more people to default on loans in order to qualify for government assistance. This unintended consequence will push the initial billions into the hundreds of billions. At some point market forces are going to be needed to prevail before we borrow ourselves out of existence. If anybody has small kids in the house, you are looking at who is going to get stuck paying for all of this spending.

smith, opinions do matter, some matter more than others. The opinions of the American people forced out the Republicans voting for change. They voted out the Republicans but got the same irresponsible overspending criminals they thought they voted out.
It will be American taxpayer's opinions which will matter in 2010 and 2012. And its refreshing to agree with you the comments on JT have no impact on anything other than providing me a place to collect my thoughts and sharpen my argument against the unhinged a government out of spinning out of control. Thanks for your assistance in helping me convince Americans from all walks of life that their government is stealing from them and their children.

While everyone has a right to their opinion, the only opinions that really matter regarding the leveraging of US tax dollars are US taxpayers.
Obama and his cast of thieves have just rolled the dice with $787 Billion taxpayers dollars and now own the economy. Eventually, the tax man will come calling. It still remains to be seen when and if this ill conceived spending spree will work and if it doesn't how much more is going to be gambled and how much this is going to cost every man, woman and child for decades to come.
The fleecing of America continues...but it has gotten significantly worse!

I'm still looking at this whole hillary visit to asia with a juandiced eye. The Middle East is in crisis. Mexico is about to blow-up and Russian hegemony is in full gear, why is Hillary's first trip overseas to Japan? It will be interesting to watch over the next couple of months who obama's main power broker will be in foreign affairs. So far it doesn't appear to be Clinton.

cnc, i hate to ask the obvious, but if it weren't for "profit" why would anyone risk capital?
jobs are created by investors who risk their money to make money. profit is not a dirty word.
companies that profit at the expense of their employees is a different matter entirely. how a company treats it's employees usually reflects their ability to put out a quality product or service and be profitable enough to stay in business.
as far as taxes are concerned, you may be right, but don't forget there are a tax cheats in every walk of life, not even the Obama cabinet is immune.

Pure unadulterated greed at all levels created this problem.
I'll start at the top and work my way down.
Democrat and Republican politicians who put their parties interest ahead of the good of the nation.
Bankers motivated by obscene profit while putting the entire risk on the taxpayer.
The mainstream media for covering for the Democrats.
People who borrow way more than they could afford and then blame others when they can't make their payments.
The American people for not holding their elected officials, government, private industry and their neighbors responsible.

The Japanese have been trying to shake their recession for 15 years. All they have to show from their eight stimulus packages is massive debt and a bunch of bridges to no where.
Raising taxes to pay for this wasteful spending only serves to prolong the recession.

The fleecing of America continues.
Both parties are equally to blame but Obama and his band of thieves are off to a fast start.
If you are not a US taxpayer, you wouldn't understand.
