What is this "freedom" little bush is always going on about? Are we talking about the "freedom" to die of the 50 million poor people in the US who have no health insurance?? He should look to his own country first. The day this child leaves the White House certainly will be a day to celebrate.

How about the J government doing something about enforcing existing labor laws re shakai hoken which I've heard many companies wangle out of playing. And forcing companies to pay for every minute of overtime. But they won't do that will they?? "Unions" in japan are a total joke. They are just pathetic.

Some of japanese friends are saying that these stabbing incidents are just going to get worse and worse as the economy tanks and unemployment soars. They feel that foreigners will be targeted next as they stick out and it's human nature to need to blame someone or some group. Safety japan?? Not if you walk around whist being foreign.

Well yes WilliB of course you're right. I mean personally, I sometimes have days of major stress and aggravation at my japanese company. But I never feel the urge to get it out on the train or alternatively, go on a stabbing spree. I just go out running or go down to my boxing gym. But there are all sorts of people on this planet of ours, aren't there??

Teach all kids, boys and girls, self defence at school. Not sports like karate but proper effective self defence techniques. This will help to get rid of pent up agression and give the kids a fighting chance on the streets. Looks now that defence against the knife is necessary too.

Yes. Even if you are fluent today, you will soon lose that fluency if you don't constantly work at it. When people say they are fluent in a zillion languages, can you believe them??
But learning languages is great fun and great brain exercise.

There are no real effective unions in japan. So workers are just slaves to be abused as the management sees fit. At my company, all overtime is unpaid. I naturally don't do overtime as I don't work for free but some of the japanese male workers are doing 3 to 4 unpaid hours a day!! Crazy but the workers are always kept in a state of fear about getting the chop. Is this living??
