i think this is another indication of how the US is becoming amore and more militarised state on an almost permament war footing. The military are more and more seen as the standard bearers of US culture and values.
not that I think that makes Kyle a coward.
Clint Eastwood may be a bit of a rightwinger but he is one of my movie heroes. and I find michael Moore to be an overblown windbag. so overall I'm with Clint - for that purely unscientific and illogical reason.

Agree. Japan has no business in the Middle East nor should it give money or otherwise get involved.
Posted in: The Middle East is complicated and Japan's presence and role there has been limited for various reasons. Having goodwill and the intention to be on the side of the good guys are not necessarily going to be productive for anybody.

As if not being an enemy of IS will change their mind. this is all about shocking and trying to convince public opinion of their fearlessness and the wrong decisions being made by Western (and now Japanese) governments..... the hostages motivations and all are incidental to the narrative IS is trying to create.

This has all the makings of a Balkan conflict except NATO won't dare to intervene. Agree, it seems strange that the allegedly huge Ukrinian army cannot dislodge the way smaller rebels and Russians. Maybe the equipment disparity (which is what Ukraine is accusing Russia of fostering) is to blame?

Long overdue. Plus will hopefully make the Cuban fear vote less relevant in US politics.

Does Japan have an SAS/Navy Seals equivalent.? Send them in? Alternative is to pay up, but he can't possibly do that publicly now.

all forms of transport (from trucks and cars thru bicycles to even pedestrians) in Japan appear to be frequently used (is that right??) by folks who are oblivious to their surroundings, heedless of the applicable rules and laws or just downrifgt mentally deficient. the number of dangerous or foolhardy acts one sees on the rodas and pavement and even indoors in buildings is truly amazing.....

"progressive"??? Surely that is a matter of opinion. some might say that increasing regulation, growibng the size of government and continued meddling in foreign parts are all steps backwards.

Just Wait. Zimbabwe. although to be serious, I do worry a bit that the conswequences may not all be good. not sure that ALL of Japan's obligations are in Yen. and also not sure that I would trust the BoJ (which is basically run by old Japanese geezers who follow the accepted wisdom of the lies of Greenspan and Bernanke and nopw Yellen about money printing and the need for inflation and so on) to get this right. i like a weaker yen because have a lot of money outside Japan but my wine bill has gone up and my gas bill hasn't gone down much yet.......

“The Palestinian people as well as the rest of the Arab and Muslim countries deserve an apology from the Canadian government for years of systematic attempts at blocking the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own.”
Surely recent history has taught us that there is little or no unity in the Arab and Muslim countries. Making this statement nonsensical.
