    SushiSake3:

Republicans and their conservative followers would rather sell off their kids and grandkids' futures all to save a few bucks and a job. The naive short-term perspective of GOP politicians is shocking, to say the least.

Have you seen the deficit projections for the Obama/Pelosi spending?!? Their future has already been sold off!

What they don't seem to realise is that we as a species simply can't go on polluting our environment like there is no tomorrow, otherwise there won't be one.

Who is polluting? Other countries, which get exemptions from global environmental initiatives because they are "developing" nations, are polluting (and it's real pollution, not carbon dioxide), but instead of holding them accountable, Western civilization is expected to make up for them. How short-sighted and naive is that? VERY!

Who gives a rat's a*se about the quality of the air that future generations breathe and the availability of clean water and healthy food?

Everybody. That's why we have such things in abundance, and provide them to other countries. You make it sound like the world is crashing down on us, when it's actually getting better all the time. But that's not good enough for some people, so now that real pollution problems like dirty rivers and acid rain have been tackled, now they're making up new "threats", like carbon dioxide (which plants need to breathe).

Germany is already the world's biggest producer of solar panels, and China is fast catching up. Where is America? Get in there! If you lead the world in this green technology, you'll have governments lining up at your doorstep to purchase the technology - much like has been the case with U.S. weaponry over the last 40-50 years.

The delicious irony is that the building of solar panel farms in the American southwest has been halted by... environmentalists. It seems they want an "impact study". So yes, they claim to want alternative energy, but only if it can be done without affecting anything, anywhere. Which is not possible, of course. And do I need to remind you about Sen. Kennedy blocking the construction of a wind farm in his favorite boating area? Everybody wants to save the planet, they just don't want to do what even they say needs to be done.

If Obama gets his energy bill through the Senate, America could be looking at making a very profitable entry into what will be ongoing growth in the green industry sector.

It would be have to be more than profitable to make up for the cost-of-living increases all Americans (and those who buy our products) will see because of Obama's "energy" bills.

On the contrary, with Sarah Palin and the GOP, it will be more economic stagnation, more following the leader and playing catchup, more enriching of petro-dictators in Iran, Russia and Saudi, and fewers jobs for Americans as foreign manufacturing bases move into the fast lane of green manufacturing.

Palin wants more drilling in Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia? I'd like to see you prove that one! No, she wants more drilling here, which would produce more jobs here (oil doesn't just magically jump out of the ground and into your car, y'know), and provide a more economical and efficient source of energy than "green" solutions.

Take that darling of the environmental crowd, the Toyota Prius. Do you know what's involved in securing and producing the nickel for the batteries in a Prius? The worldwide environmental footprint would astound you. It is such that even if it used no gas (petrol) at all, it would still have a greater enivonmental impact than the production and lifetime of use of a standard SUV.

1/ **Sarah Palin's addition to the GOP ticket buried John McCain's chances.

Then how come the only boost McCain got in the polls was when he picked her?

and if she is as good as some in hte GOP like to believe, why couldn't she save the ticket of the highly experienced John McCain against the rookie senator from Illinois?

Who said she was good enough to counter all the glowing press (even SNL did a skit about it) Obama received in spite of the fact that he had nothing of substance to offer, and having her two interviews with Obama supporters edited out of context? That rookie senator, an even more empty suit than John Edwards, was held up in an unprecedented display of media bias so blatant, so shameless, that even MSNBC anchors had to comment and laugh about themselves on the air. Who said she was good enough to overcome that? Who?

    Helter Skelter:

The issue has less to do with the environment and more to do with the socialist agenda. I wish some of the leftists here would have the cajones to just admit it. But, of course, they won't. They'll just bring up the polar bears again.

Some Leftists do, just not the ones posting here:

The environmental group Friends of the Earth advocated the transfer of money from rich to poor nations during the 2007 UN climate conference.

"A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources,” said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth.

    SushiSake3:

All the above sectors and more could benefit from a push to develop renewable energy.

Yet, those same sectors are seeing jobs outsourced or farmed out to H1B's. Oops.

Look at the legacy they left us - a GLOBAL ECONOMIC RECESSION, which, despite the GOP wanting to continue burying their heads in the sand and pretending it isn't true, began under the watch of GOP president George W. Bush in December of 2007.

That's all the GOP's fault? Funny, it's been documented that the housing market bubble started with the Community Reinvestment Act, was destabilized by Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, and congress was held by the Democrats in 2007. But it's all the GOP's fault, eh? Wow, they wield more power than I thought...

Why does Sarah Palin want to keep shooting the dead horse of the oil industry?

Why do you keep posting (unprovoked, I might add) about Sarah Palin? Is Ann Coulter right, that she's like the ex-girlfriend you can't stop obsessing over?

    gun-toting

You say that like they're something wrong with it.

    smithinjapan:

Watch a few of the interviews sarge, especially the Couric one.

Like most Americans, I don't watch Couric. And since Palin has done dozens - if not hundreds - of other interviews by people who are more capable and professional than Couric, I'd rather watch them.

You stealing lines from WhiteHawk now?

I'm flattered. But really, he's just stating the obvious.

You checked out the number of people world-wide who have watched that interview vs. the Hannity one?

Where can one find the stats?

    How about your house?

Wood stove in the winter, with the wood coming from my family's 40-acre farm. I cut it and split it myself.

Reading a teleprompter is a very simple thing and she has proven that she has some trouble doing that.

    When did that happen?

Some people can't finish a sentence when the teleprompter is turned off. Who is like that? Oh yeah, our current president. LOL

Hm how do you feel about Hillary? Do you hold her in the same respects.....Oh btw did I forget to mention that Hillary has a darn good edumacation?LOL

Yes, Hillary's credentials look good on paper. I thought she was a terrible First Lady, and I wasn't impressed by her time as a senator, but I'll have to admit she hasn't been half bad as a Secretary of State.

I work for a living and I think she does not have a clue. Does that make me an elite?LOL

    Not necessarily. Ill-informed, perhaps.

So you are saying that our President has bribed voters into picking him. You better run as fast as you can and report this to the DOJ! Quick before they read your mind and stop you!!!!!LOL

It's what all Democrats do. It's called Wealth Redistribution, and they're not exactly shy about it.

    "subsidized SUVs"? Where's mine?

And yes, raising the prices of existing sources of energy soley to justify expensive and inefficient "green" sources of energy will be damaging to the economy. How does raising the cost of doing business or having a home help the economy?

Of course, we can always buy oil from the Russians, who won't use as clean or efficient technologies or equipment to extract the oil as we would have.

But, for the record, if it helps, you can declare, if you like, that you think cheney should or should not have been trusted and that will clear it up once and for all.

I trusted Cheney more than I trusted Pelosi or Reid. Does that work for you?

I agree that Pelosi and Reid can and may be power hungry, including in their pursuit of cheney, but are you saying that cheney was NOT that way at all as VP in his 'allegedly' illegal decisions not to inform congress of these events?

Yes. Cheney was already where he wanted to be. He had no aspirations of climbing the ladder any higher, or running for any other office. If he is guilty of keeping the program (which never got off the ground) from Congress, I expect his intentions were to keep sensitive information from being leaked to the media. I don't trust Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein, or Leahy to not leak such sensitive information if there was political gain to be had, and if I were Cheney, I wouldn't trust them either.

    adaydream:

Well I've pretty much made up my mind about this issue. dick cheney and george bush have been lieing to the United States Citizens ever since they got into power.

No kidding, really? ;D Gee, I thought you'd wait for the investigation to at least start...

    cleo:

A fear of weapons, including handguns (and the folk who want to carry them) is neither unfounded nor irrational.

Many of the people who want to carry handguns are single women who do not want to be raped, and women going through rough divorces. See if you can spot the difference in these two news stories about women, their ex-husbands, and restraining orders: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,528300,00.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,528072,00.html?sPage=fnc/us/crime

If you fear such women and their guns, your fears are unfounded and irrational.

    smithinjapan:

People do indeed act or judge based on their perceptions, but where do these perceptions come from? Should I say that you are basing your anger towards Pelosi solely 'based on perception' and that you can't say why? No. You probably dislike her in part because she was caught lying about an issue on which she vehemently opposed (or seemed to).

..and she lied about Catholics and abortion, she lied about the previous adminstration not warning congress about potential problems with the economy, she lied about leading a more transparent congress... And she's a class-warfare elitist who favors punitive taxation and unchecked spending of other people's money. Shall I go on?

Likewise many dislike or even hate palin based on all sorts of acts she has committed,

You mean the ethics complaints that she was cleared on?

including hypocrisy, lies during the campaign and before and after,

What hypocrisy, and which lies? C'mon man, be specific.

the fact that she really is genuinely stupid (see her interviews),

The edited ones she did with Democrat members of the media, or the unedited ones she did with Republican (or at least not blatant Democrat) members of the media? She did more than two interviews, not that you would know it by listening to Leftists.

she quit her job before her first term (and it's indicated the reason was solely based on money)

Yeah, all the money she's out for defending herself from all of those baseless ethics complaints filed by Obama campaigners and people who don't even know why they hate her. As for her resigning early, the only reason the Left hates her for that is because she didn't continue to be a sitting duck for all of their baseless ethics complaints and media obsession. Now she's a moving target. Ann Coulter, not one of my favorite pundits, had a great column recently about how Leftists treat Palin as an ex-girlfriend they still obsess over. Funny stuff, yet very accurate.

was complete after trying to make people believe she was serious about government and politics during the campaign with McCain, she constantly claims to be the victim of the media and other politicians when they point out her wrong doings,

Again, what wrongdoings? As for the media attention, how much do you know about Palin's children? By contrast, do you even know the name of Biden's daughter? How about her drug use? No? Fancy that.

she has abused her power as governor for a number of things, and on and on.

Again, specifics and reference sources, please.

These are FACTS, my friend, not 'perceptions', as you call them. If you can't dislike someone for all of the above then I sure hope you've sent Pelosi, Reid, Biden, and even Obama a detailed letter of apology and some roses or something, because according to your own argument you're truly unable to state why you dislike them (and therefore it's unjust).

Do you want my list of reasons alphabetically, or arranged by issue?

All they can do is anger the latino community which hates them already due to the immigration racism from last year.

ILLEGAL immigration. Why do you Leftists always leave out the word "illegal"? Oh yeah, because the whole truth doesn't fit your agenda.

And guess what? Illegal aliens come here from all over the world, not just where people have different skin tones. But that doesn't fit your agenda either, so you leave that out too.

I don't like either to be honest, but do you think they are AQ spies? or do you just not like them either?

Of course I don't think they're AQ spies. Where on Earth did you get that idea?

Regardless, were they part of Congress when cheney and bush were hiding these things illegally?

Allegedly. Again, the investigation hasn't even started yet...

I'm glad you cannot deny that cheney should never have been trusted.

Like the AQ spies comment, you're trying to put words in my mouth (post) again. I never said Cheney never should have been trusted, I just don't trust the political partisanship and wanton hunger for power of those (Pelosi, Reid) who would be the oversight.

Anyway, go ahead and reveal to us all the lies that Biden is hiding. Until then, I'll just chalk up the comment ot more bitterness that your poor choice for VP lost, and I'll say I'm fine with him where he is, yes.

Actually, Biden offers the rare window of transparency that Obama promised but has never delivered. Granted, it only occurs when Biden wanders off the script, but still...

So you're okay with Biden as VP, eh? Okay, I'll remember that, and hold you to it.

We had lots of snipers in Iraq. Not just military, but from the CIA, FBI, and other law enforcement. What did they do? What they always do, take out assigned targets, often potential suicide bombers before they could detonate their explosives. This was widely reported in the press.

    grafton:

The US has made some incredible strange choices in the past when it comes to politicos and this woman is not seen as normal.

The true problem is that Joe Biden IS seen as normal. Though that's not necessarily exclusive to American politics. Each country has its own Bidens, Pelosis, Reids, Byrds, Kennedys and other assorted dangers.

It's a funny thing: The people who hate Palin the most can't give you a clear reason why they hate her at all. They'll ridicule her, call her names, vilify her children, etc., but they can't point at anything more substantive than their perception of her. Judging by the level of their curious obsession and hatred, you would think she drove an Oldsmobile into a body of water and let a young woman drown while Palin walked up and down the road trying to think of a way to salvage her political career. Or that she had been a Grand Beagle (or whatever) in the Ku Klux Klan. But no, she's done none of those things, and what she's been accused of by the people who hate her (Troopergate, clubbing baby seals, hunting moose from helicopters, 14 post-presidential-election ethics complaints), she was cleared on.

The only reasons I can think of are: 1) She's different from the "cultured" elites, in that she's capable of doing more than run for office and read from teleprompters, 2) She's a woman who doesn't hate men, and isn't rumored to be a lesbian, 3) She didn't get her political office as payment for tolerating her husband's repeated dalliances, 4) She isn't a knee-jerk hoplophobe, 5) People who work for a living can relate to her, 6) She doesn't promise potential voters piles of other people's money.

And really, such reasons tell you more about the people who hate Palin. But I've seen the same hatred for blacks, hispanics, and other women who dared to not reflexively join the herd and instead became Republicans.

Michelle Malkin, who has never used a racist or sexist slur during her career, has been the target of many, many racist and sexist slurs from the "tolerant, cultured, enlightened, open-minded" Left. And when you mention that, the first (and typically only) reaction or defense you get from a Leftist is "she deserves it because she's a big meanie". The treatment of Palin isn't very different.

Again, it tells you more about their critics, and what it tells you is disturbing.

And so you admit that only 5 of the 232 decisions in which Sotomayor sided with the majority were deemed worthy of review by the Supreme Court. You preferred to throw out the 60% figure because it made Sotomayor sound like she wasn't a good judge.

No, I admit that I should have clarified my 7:51 comment so as to avoid misinterpretation (accidental or intentional) by anyone reading it.

The thought actually occured to me as I was typing the original comment that I should be more spefic, but I thought "Nah, anybody familiar with the controversies surrounding Sotomayor will know what I'm referring to." Silly me, I should have remembered that there are always those who will try to twist anything said by someone who doesn't agree with them. In the future, I will try to leave you less room to spin and twist my posts.

This is the typical kind of dishonest buffoonery which conservatives are noted for.

I'm still laughing at your buffoonery regarding the "60%" reversal rate -- which was derived from a total of 3 reversals in 232 cases.

More like you're still deflecting, as your knowledge of Palin won't stand up to inspection. Oh, and your laughter was... deflated. Re-check the thread.

As I said, better luck next time.
