Now how long has the war been going on? Points finger in the air, greaaaat political photo op time!

And she's been governor of Alaska since the war started, is that what you're trying to say? Or are you saying she was running for VP when she visited the troops?

Funny you should bring up photo ops. Obama was scheduled to visit wounded troops during his presidential campaign), but when told he couldn't bring his film crew, he made his first executive decision and decided that visiting troops wasn't worth the bother if he couldn't use the footage in a campaign commerical.

That, my friend, is a true Democrat value, especially one of your generation.

I have a friend who makes a couple of trips to Afghanistan a year, and was present when Obama visited. Mr. "Cares about America" walked right past the troops and into the VIP tent. No wave, no "good day", no "Hi, I'm Barack Obama and I'm running for president". Nothing.

Not only does Palin talk to the troops, but she talks to them as real people. She doesn't talk down to them and her voice isn't dripping with condescension or pity. She sees them as heroes and not as victims. Obama just doesn't have that value.

Poor adaydream, he doesn't understand the difference between echoing someone and calling them out.

McCain has been in Washington so long that he is part of the woodwork.

Ah yes, about that. Biden is only 6 years younger than McCain, and has been in office 14 years longer. So much for Obama's "new and different kind of politics", eh?

He didn't start talking change until just a few monmths ago.

    Care to prove that?

That, BTW, is just what I've gathered this morning from actual Alaskans...

    So you claim.

Palin is recognized as the whistle-blower who brought Ruedrich down. You may try to belittle that as others have ridiculed the size of Wasilla, Alaska, but it's a giant move compared to her opposition in this race.

Enter Mrs. Palin. The former mayor of Wasilla had been appointed by Mr. Murkowski in 2003 to the state oil and gas regulatory agency. She'd had the temerity to blow the whistle on fellow GOP Commissioner Randy Ruedrich for refusing to disclose energy dealings. Mr. Murkowski and GOP Attorney General Gregg Renkes closed ranks around Mr. Ruedrich—who also chaired the state GOP. Mrs. Palin resigned. Having thus offended the entire old boy network, she challenged the governor for his seat.

Neither Obama nor Biden have ever stood up to the corruption in their parties, and it's the definition of a "target-rich" environment. Obama, in fact, rode the Chicago "machine" to power. For that, he should be mocked.

No problem for the Big O. He's got a laundry list of the changes he's made!

    The Harvard Law Review... no.

The law firm where he was employed... no.

The college where he was a part-time professor... not really.

    His church... er, no.

The Chicago political scene... no, he rode that horse to where he is today.

The Illinois state senate... ok, maybe not.

The U.S. senate... outside of inflating both the size of his office and its budget, then running for president out of it, no.

    The war... hmmmm, no.

But he's promising change! Really, he knows all about change!

One speaker, Anne Beiler (founder of AuntieAnne's Pretzels), gave a very inspiring, religious-based talk on the need to care for the poor and give of our wealth. She was followed up by Norm Coleman, who contradicted just about every point that Mrs. Beiler had made.

Really? Coleman told the crowd not to donate to charity? Or are you, like most leftists, not able to tell the difference between charitable donations and government confiscation of income for redistribution?

    adaydream:

If McCain and Palin get elected she'll be able to pawn her children off to Nannies and sitters and staff and hired help.

Leftists must not know any married couples, as they make it sound like every woman who has given birth is a single mom.

I don't remember any Presidents or Vice Presidents, where both the office holder and the spouse worked full time jobs.

    What, you don't remember the co-presidents of 1992-2000? ;-)

So will her husband quit his union Oil job?

Don't know. Perhaps you should ask him.

    USAFdude:

The Republicans aren't going to win. The military vote will see to that.

I happened to see an "Air Force for McCain" sign in the crowd last night. Must not have been one of your friends.

    adaydream:

McCain/Palin will go to the way of Bush/Quayle.

    Winning the general? Yeah, probably.

    memyselfI:

Pretty soon all American cars will be made in 3rd world countries.

You haven't noticed all the Japanese car plants in the U.S.? Tennessee just got another one, in fact. The difference? Gee, I wonder what the Japanese manufacturers are doing right that the American manufacturers are doing wrong...?

    jwillis79:

The fact is, she was chosen to shore up McCain with the base.

Wait, just two days ago, the Left was insisting that picking her was just a patronizing move to pick up Hillary's voters. New talking points were issued? Changed your collective mind?

Actually, you're right this time. She was picked to recover the base vote after McCain's history of working across the aisle. And it's working. I guess McCain has figured out that what he thought was his base, the left-wing majority of the American media, isn't going to support him against their Chosen Savior.

    Kapuna:

The women of the U.S. have a special chance to break through that “glass ceiling” once and for all. I hope they do not ignore it.

Not just a ceiling, but also a wall. The Left thinks they own this voting block or that, and their heads explode whenever a woman or minority is successful without them (See: Condi Rice). Palin, if she gets to office, will prove again that you don't have to play by the DNC rules to be a successful woman. You don't have to be a bitter, man-hating, baby-killing, hairy-legged feminist of questionable sexuality and constant victimhood. And you don't have to hitch a ride on your husband's political career either! Obviously, it's killing them.

    Altria:

The candidate from the party I support is gonna beat the candidate from the party you support! Sucker!

Oh, now you're just taking all the fun out of it! :-D

    CavemanLawyer:

Guess again. He has run successful campaigns for both the State and National Senate, and that takes leadership. He seems to be running a pretty good presidential campaign right now, and quite a lot of people under him.

But as you'll recall from another thread, Obama's campaign had his opponent in the state senate race disqualified. And in the national senate, didn't he run against a candidate who pulled a Hilary by running for the office when he didn't truly live there? Also, he doesn't run the campaign. Campaign managers do that. Obama is the product.

The big point is that no U.S. soldier would have died in Iraq if Obama had his way.

Perhaps, but the chance of more American civilians and soldiers dying here and anywhere else Islamic terrorists wished to target them would have been greater.

    Hoss1:

I guess reality doesn't fit into the conservative perspective. Are you saying that it's not true?

I am. Let's take your claims one by one:

She supports abstinence-only sex education (and she is "proud" of her pregnant teenage daughter).

Her stand on sex-ed is moot, as Bristol Palin had sex-ed at her school, and yet is still pregnant.

She is currently being investigated for abusing her power (She fired some state police official because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law).

How much do you truly know about that? http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/08/29/palins-troopergate-beating-msm-distortions-to-the-truth/#more-7482

    She's got tax trouble.

First I've heard of that. Care to clarify?

    GoodDonkey:

I know Sarah Palin will get hammered on "Troopergate"...

Keep putting your eggs in that basket. Please. The left will look just as petty, vindictive and foolish as they have for wasting tax money on investigating Bush for firing federal judges. When the law says someone can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, that's exactly what it means.

    yabits:

If McCain is so goshed-darn great, how could Republicans have rejected him 8 years ago for George W. Bush, the worst president of all time and one that Republicans distance themselves from now?

While the "WPoAT" is still debatable, the worst of our lifetimes is clearly Carter. Or maybe your lifetime doesn't go back that far. In any case, McCain isn't so gosh-darn great, it's just that your candidate is so blatantly horrible, and frankly, ridiculous. But more on that later.

    **jwillis79:

Here is her address to the AIP. Her husband was a member in 1996 and 2000. Pat Buchanan said on TV she came to his fundraiser. All facts...Yes?

Facts, yes. The only ones you are missing are her membership, and any evidence she supported secession. Good luck with that.

Lie: The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars." Fact: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

You're leaving many forms of taxation out of your "fact". Therefore, you're not telling the whole truth. Whether intentional or not, you're being misleading.

    jerseyboY:

So she proved she can read someone else's words from a teleprompter.

    huberts2:

what you can say about the speech is that is "was a very good delivery". She didn't write it - it was firstly written weeks ago for a 'man' and had to be rewritten for the 'woman'. It has taken a week continuously, if you believe Washington Post et al of professional writers to construct it and now doubt hours and hours of practice before adjudicators to get the effects right. If you want to see her quality it has be to done in a an unrehearst setting/debate preferably with Obama.

The irony that the above two posts were written by Obama supporters is... galactic! Huberts, where do you get your information? My sources say that the speech was co-written by Palin. Not only that, but...

    wait for it...

The teleprompter broke. Yes! When the applause started, instead of the teleprompter pausing, it kept scrolling. She had to work from memory and ad-lib the rest. Same thing happened to Giuliani, who spoke just before her. So she can keep going when the teleprompter breaks, yet another reason she's more qualified than Obama. You've seen the YouTube video where his teleprompter breaks, haven't you? The man can't even finish a sentence, much less a speech! And you would think it would be easy, considering how he's been giving the same stump speech since 2004.

As for unrehearsed debates, I'm still waiting for Obama to take McCain up on his repeated invitations.

    goodDonkey:

Sarah fired her ex-brother-in-law without justification and the conservatives think she will weather those accusations.

So you're defending a man who made death threats against Palin's family (and her too) and tasered his stepson? You do realize the trooper has been placed on leave for those and other charges (getting his fellow troopers to not bust him for DUI, multiple times), will probably face jail time, and only has his job (by a thread) because his union intervened?

"without justification" Pffft. That makes this so much more delicious:

I am a man of facts.

No, you're a man with your own set of facts.

I can't stand when someone proves me wrong.

    Finally, you get something right.

...and I looked into the matter...

Really? Where? Leftist blogs? Kos? DU? Did you look here:

    http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/08/29/palins-troopergate-beating-msm-distortions-to-the-truth/#more-7482

It is clear that her actions were deliberate and there is tape to back up the allegations.

I remember people claiming there was a tape of Michelle Obama using the term "whitey". I’m still waiting for it.

    JoeBigs:

Thank you, I try to be fair and balanced.........

    WHEN?!?!?

You know if someone other than good old McC was running, I would take a closer look at them.

    Who, for example?

    USNinJapan2:

The POSTS number 3 to 1. This does NOT mean that there are three times as many people posting for Democrats vice Republicans.

franknbeans did a poll on another thread, and found that more pro-McCain/Palin posters on JT are actually able to vote in the U.S. Many more.

    LFRAgain:

Interestingly, this reputation Palin reportedly has as a reformer doesn’t exactly stand up in the face of her decision as as Ethics Supervisor for the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to, well, quit, when the going got tough, being unable to fullfill her duties in the face of corruption from fellow Republicans. If she can’t stand up to members of her own party, then what, realistically, are the odds that she’d be more resiliant in the face of opposition from less friendly opposition, like, I don’t know, Iran, perhaps? Not encouraging, quite honestly.

Excuse me? Perhaps you should ask an Alaskan (a democrat, by the way):

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/howsarahpalinhandledcorrup.html

A snippet: "After she got into office she started going after corrupt legislators, and with the FBI's help we've put four of them in prison, indicted six more and the "Corrupt Bastard's Club" as they arrogantly called themselves (even had hats made with CBC on the front!) suddenly found it no fun anymore."

And that spells out a huge difference between Palin and Obama (and Biden): Obama talks constantly about change, but what has he changed? His church? No. Chicago politics? No. The state senate? National senate? The War? No, no, no. He hasn't changed a single thing. Palin has given Alaska more change in two years than Obama has given any form of government in his lifetime. Palin has gotten where she is by changing the political scene around her. Obama has gotten where he is by riding the political scene around him.

    yabits:

I don't spend a lot of time talking about Obama; the man's extraordinary abilities are there for all to see.

But when you (or anyone else) are asked to list them...

    adaydream:

Besides her bio and a bunch of one-line zingering jokes, what did Palin say of substance last night?

That your presidential candidate has none. Was he really the best you could come up with?

For all those trying to claim that McCain equals a third Bush term, here are the points I gave someone else on another thread:

    • McCain fought for campaign finance reform — McCain-Feingold — that Bush resisted and ultimately signed because he had no choice.

    • McCain led the battle to restrict interrogation techniques of terror suspects and to ban torture.

    • McCain went with Joe Lieberman on a tough measure to curb climate change, something Bush denies is going on.

    • McCain opposed the Bush tax cuts when they passed.

    • McCain urged the Iraq surge, a posture Bush rejected for years before conceding its wisdom.

    • McCain favors FDA regulation of tobacco and sponsored legislation to that effect, a position all but a handful of Republican senators oppose.

    • McCain's energy bill, also with Lieberman, is a virtual blueprint for energy independence and development of alternate sources.

    • After the Enron scandal, McCain introduced sweeping reforms in corporate governance and legislation to guarantee pensions and prohibit golden parachutes for executives. Bush opposed McCain's changes and the watered-down Sarbanes-Oxley bill eventuated.

    • McCain has been harshly critical of congressional overspending, particularly of budgetary earmarks, a position Bush only lately adopted (after the Democrats took over Congress).

    Madverts:

Isn't there some doubt that it is actually hers?

Yes, but no legitimate doubt. Just accusations from some Kos nutters.

And no, if the choice had been to me, the child would not have been born.

But I thought you were against all killing of any kind, including death penalties and self-defense.

Not only does she have a special-needs infant, but she also has an under-age daughter who is up the duff and in need of her parents.

She also has a family that helps with the load. Maybe it's only right-wing conservative families that help each other, because the idea never seems occur to those on the left. Also, I understand that the age of consent in Alaska is 16.

"A recent report by the San Francisco-based Community United Against Violence bears out Falik's assertions. It found a rise of 11% in violence against the gay, lesbian and bisexual community between 1990 and 1991 in San Francisco. Nationally, between 1988 and 1991, these hate crimes have risen 161%. "

In San Francisco?!? You mean there are still heterosexuals left in San Fran? Okay, I'm kidding, but I'm surprised that any of the tolerant, peaceful leftists occupying San Fran would turn violent against their homosexual neighbors.

I'll take some time to read the article, but in the meantime, answer me this: What happens to people in this country who physically attack homosexuals for being homosexual? By comparison, what happens in many Islamic-based countries to similar people? Is there a difference in laws regarding violence against homosexuals?

You already know the answers, don't you?

Most people would regard "going after" someone "oozing with hatred" as you claimed in your original post as an attack.

As usual, you move the goal posts when proven wrong. Oh well. Perhaps that's why you don't set criteria up front. Between that and limiting the outlets (NYT, MSNBC and CNN are the only outlets that matter?), you do your best to limit any substantive debate. In any case, I think most people would also regard ignoring requests for privacy and not leaving the daughter out of the campaign as a form of attack. Especially, as I noted before, there is no legitimate reason to focus on her other than to use her as leverage against her mother.

Funny how the Left is banking on Palin's daughter being pregnant wrecking McCain's chances... and forget that one of Dick Cheney's daughters is a lesbian. I've also noticed that the Left has stopped complaining about McCain's lobbyists since the Biden pick. Is that because they know one of Biden's sons is a lobbyist? Why didn't Obama just pick Hillary and guarantee the support of her voters?

None of the articles you mentioned has anything resembling "going after" the mother or the daughter. There is nothing resembling the "hatred" that you accused them of. The three articles are fair and balanced.

I knew you were going to post that. The articles don't have to be attack pieces, that's for the Kos crowd. All they have to do is ignore the privacy request, which they're gleefully doing. Even your Chosen One, Obama, has spoken and said the kids are off limits. So why are the articles continuing? What is there to report about a teen pregnancy that many Americans haven't already seen in their neighborhood, kid's school, or church? Nothing, of course, except using the daughter's pregnancy as leverage against Sarah Palin.

This is hardly the stuff of Profiles in Courage.

I don't care if the decisions aren't tough enough for you, the point is that she's made more executive decisions -and tougher ones- than your presidential nominee.

Palin was for Ted Stevens before she was against him.

Actually, she still stands by him. See doesn't see him as the embodiment of evil, as unhinged Leftists seem to see all Republicans, she wants him to clean up his act. Very compassionate, really, and quite the contrast to Obama's tendency to throw everyone under his campaign bus, including the man he once could no more sever himself from than he could his own grandmother, the typical white person.

I see my 12:07 post remains unchallenged, and my original post at 07:52 remains true.

He could've tried the Obama trick, "This is not the governor I knew five months ago."

    Wolfpack:

Liberals should take Obama's advice and stop attacking Palin's family.

But that would leave them with nothing else to go on, and they have to stop people from liking Palin. God(!) forbid Americans see a woman as anything other than a bitter, baby-killing, feminist dominatrix.

    yabits:

Wolfpack cannot come up with a single example of how MSNBC, CNN, or the New York Times has gone after Palin's daughter.

I just went to the NYT's website, and they have three articles on Palin's daughter.

    • In Political Realm, ‘Family Problem’ Emerges as Test
    • A New Twist in the Debate on Mothers
    • Palin Daughter’s Pregnancy Interrupts G.O.P. Convention Script

Oh yeah, they're respecting the Palin family's privacy all right.

And then there's the report from the Politico that Alaska democrats have released documents that include Sarah Palin's social security number (minus the last four digits), various home addresses, and her car registration. MTV, the "Rock the Vote" channel, has dug up all the dirt they can on Bristol Palin's fiance. What's next, articles about the Palin family dog and what it did to the neighbor's garden?

It's obvious that the Left sees Palin as a serious threat to Obama's "destiny". Just as Michael Steele was such a threat a few years ago that democrats went through his garbage to find his SSN so they could run his credit.

As Sarge (and any other taker) have completely failed to come up with a single example of a tough decision made by Palin, we have to turn to the character issue. That's a steaming pile of bovine scatology. You'll go after anything you can get.

Tough decisions? How about cutting her own salary as mayor? She quit the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in protest over ethics issues in her own political party. She publicly called Ted Stevens out on the investigation focused on him. She sold the jet her predecessor purchased.

Has Obama ever taken on the corruption in his own party? He's from the Chicago branch, after all, it's not like here's a shortage of targets. But then he wouldn't have gotten such a great deal on his house, eh?

    Betzee:

The other revelation that proved difficult to explain was Palin's association with the Alaskan Independence Party. Now I have a colleague form Alaska, someone I would describe as non-partisan, who dismissed it as simply a vehicle for Republicans out of power to battle the Republican establishment in power. Yet it looks really bad. I mean this is a party whose founding member, Joe Vogler, declared: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Good luck with that. Palin never supported secession, and it's doubted she was ever a member. Obama and Clinton spoke at the Kos convention, a collection of extremists from the outer regions of the far left. It's not just their founder who said something controversial, the Kos crowd say outlandish stuff every day. It's not like Palin was a member of the Klan or worked with an unrepentant domestic terrorist.
