So the fact that they turned the first day of their convention into a fundraiser for the people of New Orleans and the aid agencies, raising millions of dollars, was just more "bullsh!t"?

Do you know how small an area the site is, especially compared to the entire reserve? Or do you not care? I would think with all your opposition to America's "wars for oil", you would want the country to be more independent.
Are they?
And some people do not believe it's connected to solar activity, or volcanic activity, but soley the fault of wealthy Capitalists and their SUVs. Funny how you never seem to question their judgment.
It's a nice balance to Obama's stance, which okays abortion even for babies that are already born.
Same-sex marriage acomplishes what, exactly? Is this really a crucial issue for the federal government?

You don't defend them, but you consistently "forget" to include them in your blame game. If you don't name them, you don't blame them. Trying to say you don't defend them is a cop-out.
Was that directed at me?
... which they turned into a fundraiser for the people of New Orleans and the private aid agencies. Contrast that with the democrats who partied on a scale of the Chinese Olympics ceremonies and worshipped their chosen one.

Unless I'm mistaken, the age of consent in Alaska is 16.
1986 was 22 years ago, and her husband hasn't had another DUI conviction. (The requirements for getting a DUI conviction are quite low, and designed to be that way.) I suppose you're a saint who's never sinned?
You're not building your hopes on "Troopergate", are you? Please say you are, I really hope you are.
(I've had to post this on almost every Palin thread so far, because leftist after leftist can't resist a bit of ill-informed character assassination:)
On July 11, 2008, Palin dismissed Walter Monegan as Commissioner of Public Safety and instead offered him a position as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which he subsequently turned down. Monegan alleged shortly after his dismissal that it may have been partly due to his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin's sister, Molly McCann. In 2006, before Palin was governor, Wooten was briefly suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann's (and Palin's) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson (at the stepson's request), and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days. Palin asserted that her dismissal of Monegan was unrelated to the fact that he had not fired Wooten, and asserts that Monegan was instead dismissed for not adequately filling state trooper vacancies, and because he "did not turn out to be a team player on budgeting issues." Palin acknowledged that a member of her administration, Frank Bailey, did contact the Department of Public Safety regarding Wooten, but both Palin and Bailey say that happened without her knowledge and was unrelated to her dismissal of Monegan. Bailey was put on leave for two months for acting outside the scope of his authority as the Director of Boards and Commissions. Commissioner Monegan received no severance pay, though at the same time another dismissed Commissioner, Charles Kopp (who served only 11 days) received $10,000. In response to Palin's statement that she had nothing to hide, in August 2008 the Alaska Legislature hired Steve Branchflower to investigate Palin and her staff for possible abuse of power surrounding the dismissal, though lawmakers acknowledge that "Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time." The investigation is being overseen by Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who says that the Palin administration has been cooperating and thus subpoenas are unnecessary. The Palin administration itself was the first to release an audiotape of Bailey making inquiries about the status of the Wooten investigation.

"Knee-deep"? Really? In what, specifically?
Actually, you don't hear anything about Biden's son, Hunter. After all of the Left's harping about McCain's lobbyists, Obama picks a VP nom whose son is a lobbyist. Oops.
As for Palin, she's done something with her time in office. She's made good on campaign promises by going after corruption in her state, started balancing the state's budget, and has even returned some of the taxes to Alaskan citizens. Obama, by contrast, has squandered his time in office, voting "present" (if at all), proposing yet more spending and no cuts, and running for another office (after saying he wouldn't). If I were hiring, I'd pick the fast learner who makes the most of her opportuinities over the slacker who makes promises but just runs up his expense account.

Which is moot, since you've yet to provide any evidence whatsoever to back up your impulsive and impetuous claim that Dole is miffed she didn't get picked for VP, or was even interested.
yabits:
I'm not debating her early support for the bridge (the planning and lobbying for which were already in the works long before she took office), but rather your Wiki-based claim as to why she dropped her support:
The footnoted sources for that line do not back up that Wiki claim, and neither have you.

And yet, it hasn't. In fact, Obama din't get any "bounce" at all through Wednesday. A couple of polls even had McCain's numbers increasing.
Even with that 15 point bounce, Clinton still needed Ross Perot to get in with 43% of the vote.

CavemanLawyer:
The Left was convinced that Cheney wasn't going to survive one term, much less two. I remember the same wishful thinking er, I mean predictions about Reagan.
Everton2:
Why do the leftists have such a problem with that?
Oh, I see. Letting an imperfect child live to be loved and grow up in a caring and supportive family is selfish. Might as well kill the thing and throw the inconvenience out with the trash, eh? I thought you leftists were supposed to be compassionate liberal types.

...and went on "vacation" in Hawaii, where he underwent an intensive 12-step rehab program to cure his teleprompter dependency issues.
CavemanLawyer:
Depends on the reuqests. I've heard that the McCain thought they were unreasonable. Knowing Obama's ego, that sounds more likely to me. Funny that he would have requests, after claiming he would meet our enemies unconditionally.
TheConservative:
As I said on another thread, niether can I. And I know a lot of military servicemen, both retired and active, several of which have seen action in Iraq. Not a single one is even considering Obama.
presto345:
More of the middle class moved up under Bush's economic policies. The only people hurt by them were the lower end of the unskilled labor market, who were replaced by illegal alien labor. On the one hand, it kept the country moving, but on the other, we suffered an increase in violent crime, DUI deaths and child molestations, while paying the replaced labor not to work.
TheConservative:
And there's the difference the more myopic ones on the left fail to grasp. They think everything is Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. But the Iraq war is wrapping up. The combat troops will be out during the next president's term anyway, we already have the agreement with the Iraqi government. They will be able to handle things on their own now, just as Bush and Cheney planned (late, sure, but still). But the war on terror isn't over, and never will be. Whether it's a-holes like Islamic extremists, or a-holes like William Ayers or Timothy McVeigh, terrorism will continue. The effort to stop it before innoncents are killed is a difficult and noble fight, and I won't trust it to someone who is afraid of a certain cable news channel.
GeorgeRoper:
Yes. Well, okay, just some of us. For me, I like having my knowledge and beliefs challenged, because in making my case, I not only express my opinion, but also how I came to it. That doesn't explain why some people keep repeating the same chants, myths, and talking points, however...
I was going to make that point later, well done.
Nessie:
For someone who "won" a lot of polls, Paul never seemed to get many actual live votes. And I've yet to meet any active duty or retired military folks who liked him, either.
CavemanLawyer:
Maybe her campaign team had her opponent disqualified. Oh wait, that was Obama. Sorry.
yabits:
Speaking of desperation...
Palin beat Murkowski in the primary, then defeated the better-funded democrat opponent in the general. How? By promising to clean up the corruption (same tactic Jindal used in the 60-year democrat stronghold of Louisiana). And Stevens? Palin pressured him to come clean.
If you're going to quote Wikipedia articles, you might want to read the original sources referenced in the footnotes. None of them support your Wiki-based editorial.
One of those sources does, however, explain how Palin got elected:
She made three other promises: to end corruption in state government, cut spending, and provide accountability. She's now redeeming those promises.
goodDonkey:
You know Mrs. Dole personally, do you? I haven't heard the first thing about her being interested, and I doubt she would be after her husband's unsuccessful presidential bid.

Well, that will make a nice contrast to Obama, who is so pro-abortion, he has even advocated killing children that have been born after surviving abortion porcedures.
You mean anti-Gulf War I and II Pat Buchanan?
Some people think Karl Marx should be taught in public schools, and in fact do teach Marxism.
And some people don't think solar activity is the cause of climate change. If Palin has the environmental views you claim, then how do you explain this?

It is... enlightening.. to see that it's the Loyal Left on JT, those who claim to be "pro woman" this and that, who don't think a woman is capable of being a good mother and have a successful career. If I didn't advance them credit, I would suggest they think Palin should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.

franknbeans, Good call on the poll. I'll be voting in November. Heck, I vote every time the polls open, even if it's just a local council election. Also, if you get too frustrated with having your posts deleted, come over to the forum side of JT. Under News, Politics and Issues/United States, you'll see a thread titled McCrazniess/Obamania, where a few of us have found shelter.
smithinjapan:
Since "progressive" means Marxist... GOOD! The fact that she's a staunch conservative means that she will bring back the staunch conservative vote that McCain lost and needs to win.
Also, the fact that she's a right-wing conservative means that she'll naturally have better judgement. As Peter Schweizer summarized in Do As I Say, Not As I Do - Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy, right-wing conservatives who do not adhere to their stated values suffer for their failings, while left-wing progressives who do not adhere to their stated values benefit from a better quality of life. Remember a guy named Spitzer? He suffered for his failings, but he was a liberal who didn't adhere to a right-wing conservative value he claimed to hold. (Man oh man, I'm gonna get flamed for that! Hahahaha!)
JoeBigs:
But you would have no problem voting for Obama, who doesn't know how the Joint Chiefs of Staff operate?
zurcronium:
You mean the war that is already wrapping up? The one where troop levels are below pre-surge levels and dropping every month? The one where we have an agreement with the Iraqi government to have combat troops out by 2011? That war in Iraq?
JoeBigs:
Your point being...?
You've got your facts completely wrong. Palin didn't want the bridge.
Again, completely wrong. Or didn't you see the comparison in earmark spending between McCain and Obama? Obama: $740,000,000 in proposed earmark spending. McCain: $0.
ExPrincesska:
Don't tell me you prefer Hillary's smooth, soothing delivery? ;-)
As a private pilot, maybe I can help the leftists here with comparing Palin's inexperience to Obama's. Let's say you're boarding a plane, and happen to glance in the cabin and see the pilots doing their pre-flights. Which scenario would make you more comfortable?
1) Pilot (left-seat) is young an obviously inexperienced. Co-pilot (right-seat) is older and experienced.
2) Pilot is older and experienced. Co-pilot is younger and inexperienced. Also, co-pilot has experience working in a control tower.

smithinjapan, why do you refuse to look past Palin's gender and see the staunch conservative? Any specific reason?
SushiSake3:
I guess you missed the part about her being governor of the largest state in the country, one that borders with Canada and is 12 miles from Russia. How condescendingly sexist of you. Did you really think you nobody would notice?
Of course, it all depends on what the future role of the vice president will be. Prior to 2000, it was a largely ceremonial role. A "bucket of warm spit", someone once called it. But now Cheney has proven that the VP can work for a living and make a difference in the administration. Will all VP's follow suit?
