No, that's just for those of us who fund it.

So that's 3 times the profit for state taxes than for the oil companies, is that right? Was there any mention of federal taxes? My city also has local taxes on each gallon.

adaydream, I'll see if I can find a link. I remember the blokes on Top Gear were discussing the topic on a recent episode; the oil companies were getting 35p/liter (gross) while the government was getting 65p/liter.

I agree with adaydream on this one. I've heard of black churches where there was preaching similar to Wright's, but the ones I've attended didn't do that.
And the music was great!

Nessie, that er, crop wasn't in demand as much during his time. Tobacco had more demand and held more profit. But there are a few pot farms in the area now. Not as many as there are meth houses. It's sad, really.
Say, I wonder if we can get cars to run on either of those...?

Has anybody noticed that the U.S. government makes more profit on each gallon of gas than the oil companies do? And that's in the U.S., which has lower gas taxes than the UK and Japan!
As for the issue of funding roads and transit, all too often the taxes are funneled into the general fund, and spent on pet projects and vote-buying entitlements. We have a law in Tennessee that prohibits that, but it didn't stop our governor, Phil Bredesen(D). But instead of any consequences for him, our esteemed legislature has only passed another law repeating the first.
Oregon must have used its gas taxes for other purposes, because they were trying to find new ways to create revenue to offset the decrease in gas consumption after the liberals in their state bought hybrids.

Everton2:
So you don't remember it either. It's okay, I'm told that's one of the first things that happens when we get older. I don't remember what the other ones were...
So you're saying that there are no councilmen, congressmen, senators, secretaries-of-state, ambassadors, city administrators, school board officials, mayors, police, judges, military officers, governors, lobbyists, corporate executives, attorneys, district attorneys, business owners, property owners, and voters who are not white? Fascinating.
SezWho2:
I was thinking of his U.S./AIDS statement when I posted that, not whatever speech or part of a speech you were referring to. My apologies for not clarifying that up front. If Wright is not a racist, bigot, and hate-monger, what is he then? A unifier? A peacemaker? A diplomat?

True, Helter Skelter. They claim to "look out" for the poor, but in reality all they've done is make the poor more comfortable staying at the bottom of the ladder. They haven't done jack to get people off of government dependency. But then the government doesn't do that for you anyway. It takes applying yourself and working your own way out of that class level. Oddly enough, that's what the "cold/cruel/evil/heartless" conservatives have been telling the poor in America for generations.

A draft, daydream? That means all the anti-war, peace-at-any-price zealots will have to fight for their right to protest wars (if only those under Republican presidents) too.

Everton2, when did the U.S. do that expermient? How does that have anything to do with AIDS? What is the connection? What about the fact that Wright has absolutely no evidence or facts to back up his accusation? (Neither does anyone else.)
I suppose you don't consider Wright's claim that America is controlled by "rich white people" to be racist or hate-mongering either.
And what did you think of his speech to the National Press Club today?

I figured that the Kyoto Protocols made it pretty obvious that the entire reason for the Global Warming movement was global wealth redistribution, biased against Western countries. That, and the main players behind the movement are political activists rather than scientists.

Yep, corn has tripled in price just since 2005. I remember my late grandfather grew tobacco as his money crop, and grew corn every other year to preserve the soil. I guess corn would be his money crop now.

It most certainly does cover the "racist" question, as such statements cannot be described as anything other than racist. I'll concede the "a--hole" point, as that would be a matter of opinion, but the "hate-monger" description does apply to Wright.
I'm not talking about that speech. I'm referring to the 'U.S.-government-created-AIDS-to-kill-black-people' speech. If that isn't hate-mongering, especially based on race, what is it?
