" Right on. It would be great to see an energy independent Japan. "

Sure, but not with windmills. Those stupid contraptions are more a drain on the power grid than anything else.

    More pie-in-the-sky BS.

They are after government pork, i.e. we all will pay for this.

Better than the famous "bridges to nowhere" maybe, but still government pork and nothing else.

The most ecomical mode for those stupid windmills is when they are standing still.... that way they cost least for all of us.

    " Wow..a fiscally responsible PM pulls "

Mario a fiscally responsible PM?? Come on. More likely Merkel told him that Germany is not going to pay, thus pulling the plug.

Japan should pull out of this nonsense too. Or re-use the 1964 facilities.

    " I leave my 7 and 5 year old here playing "

7 and 5 is a big difference! Leaving a second grader at home for a while is one thing, a kindergardener plus a toddler quite another.

That is so sad. Something similar happened in my neighbourhood last year. A 3 and a 5 year old should never be left alone in the house, especially not when heaters are on.

I have been skiing in Shiga Kogen, and Aussies are appearing there too this year, lots of them. I haven't seen any of them caus any trouble, so afaic they are doing their bit to prop up the local economy (Japanese ski tourism is way down compared to before).

As for the dead guy, we can only speculate if he was drunk. He might have just lost his way, I don´t think they have many blizzards in Australia.

" Are Iran's forces prepared to counter any American aggression in the area? "

What you mean "counter"? It is a hell of a lot easier to attack a couple of oil tankers than to protect every single one of the from every single dynamite-laded speedboat.

Iran does not need aircraft carriers and similar expensive gimmics shut down the world`s gas station.

" willi get a grip of yourself man. Bringing up Obama's middle name is a pathetic attempt at twining your radical anti-Islamic agenda with reality "

Obama started his office with the famous brown-nosing speech to the islamic world in Cairo, and has since gone to endlessly appease islamists and throw Israel under the bus.

Get real, open your eyes, and stop pretending Obamas foreign islamophile dhimmi policy is not a fact.

    Triumvere:

" Closing Hormuz would be suicidal for Iran, not so much militaristic (though that as well) as economically. "

You are assuming that Irans theocracy is motivated by rational thinking and aspects such as material wealth. That is a fundamentally wrong assessment.

The mullahs are acting on much deeper motive; they are acting to please god. Step back and think: Is there any rational or material reason to want to destroy Israel? If they were motivated by material reasons, they would want to trade with the Jewish state, and not to wipe out the "dirty bacteria".

" This will lead to a big jump in oil prices, which will further hurt the American economy and Obamas re-election hopes. Dangerous times we are living in. "

Absolutely. Attac king ship ping in the Str ait of Ho rmus is an obvious reac tion by Iran. And world-wide oil pri ces will of course go throu gh the roof. So what is your preferred solution? Sa crifice Isra el and its inhabitants in exchange for ch eap oil, as long as it lasts?

The top U.S. Navy official in the Gulf said Sunday he takes Iran’s military capabilities seriously but insists his forces are prepared

His forces might be prepared, but Barack Hussein is not. I predict that Barack Husseins USA will sit idly by while Ahmedinejad finalizes his bomb. (Not quite "idly" though... Barack will spare no effort to prevent Israel from taking out Iran`s nukes.)

    Never submit:

" "Iranian Aggression"? It's not like Iranian ships are massing outside the Hudson river prepared to strike. "

Actually, yes. Promising a new holocaust on Israel does qualify as aggression. And do not think for a second that Iran´s objectives stop there. Iran`s islamic regime is very clear that the "Great Satan" USA must also be destroyed. You might want to read the open letter that Ahmedinejad wrote to Bush. (I do assume you have heard of it.)

    Wurthington:

" We need to reduce the price of Oil to $20 a barrel "

Alas, impossible. There is not enough of the stuff left, and the Middle Eastern countries are sitting on most of what is left. What we really need is a "Manhattan project" type of highest-priority research orogram to find viable energy alternatives. (And no, cute windmills are not it.)

    Yasukuni:

Correct. As much as the haters ridicule the statement, it is a simpe fact: Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.

And the opposition against Israels existence has nothing to do with "land", it is the radical muslim opposition to the existence of a state in the middle East where Jews are free and do not live as oppressed second class "dhimmi".

I suppose most have forgotten the Iran that existed before Ayatollha Khomei´s islamic revolution.... under the non-religious, secular regime of the Shah, Iran was in fact an ally of Israel, not its lethal enemy.

The hatred against Israel was introduced in Iran by Khomeini and the other mullahs.

    Alec Hue:

" Be it Iran or Israel ... both countries shouldn't provoke each into a corner to engage into a war ! "

No. There is no equivalency there. Israel has never threatened Iran. Israel simply wants to exist. Iran on the other hand has been constantly threatened Israel ever since the islamic takeover. There is no balance there. Only Iran wants to wipe out Israel and kill its people, not the other way around.

" To be frank ... Iran, surrounded by her Muslim Brothers yet, can't even live in harmony with each other ... Why ... !? "

Because the Iran is a Shiite country, and the neighbouring Arab countries are Sunni. Two different branches of islam, who regard each other as heretics. Were you unaware of that?

    " I'm not a good judge for characters but dare say ... ' MOST Muslim ' are egoistic ' and ' trouble-makers ' "

No. "Most muslims" are simply people with no particular issues. Islamic doctrine, however, wants to dominate the world, and islamist radicals want to submit the world under Sharia rule. Unfortunately, such islamist fanatics are governing Iran, and soon they will have nuclear weapons.

    kurisupisu:

" Israel assassinates Iranians and the US spies on Iran-these "

What hypocrisy. The islamic republic of Iran is fully determined to wipe out Israel and its population, and is aquiring the nuclear weapon to do this. Israel was established to PREVENT another holocaust, and not to invite one.

Israel is not threatening the exstistance of Iran or anybody else. And Israel has every right in the world to anything to protect the live of its 6 million inhabitants.

To blank out all that and only concentrate on the imagined wrong-doings of Israel is absurd.

All that said, I still think that Israel simply does not have the military means to end the Iranian nuke program, so the country (and the whole Middle East) will live in the shadow of Ahmedinejads bomb. So you should be happy.

They understand them perfectly well, however that is no concern for them. Why do you assume that Ahmedinejad and the mullahs share our priorities?

    nandakamanda:

" If Israel has announced in advance that they are going to attack Iran, "

Israels has not "announced that they are going to attack Iran". They are simply saying that Irans bomb program must be stopped. Which is something all of us have known ever since the Iran lies about their "peaceful" nuclear program were exposed by Iranian dissidents.

" If they are moved America would have to pay the new base bills. Once they are moved, Japan could use that money for other things. "

The "other things" would have to be a corresponding increase in the Japanse SDF, and a change of the peace constitution. Be careful what you wish for. So far, the arrangement to outsource her defense to the US has worked very well for japan.
