Any islamic source could tell you that islam is not just a "religion"; it is a complete way of life, an ideology, a civilization. And that is why Pakistan has no intellectual basis for addressing the islamist problem. Pakistan was founded as islamic state and has written the Shariah into its constitution. Therefore, the secular Pakistani government has no intellectual leg to stand on. If you accept the islamic principles, the Taliban are correct and the secular Pakistanis are heretics.
Down the road, we are looking at the first Taliban state with nukes.

Oh man, the Americans are getting hoodwinked here. Ahmedinejad is playing chess, Obama is playing tic-tac-toe. That is where ignorance gets you.

Sure. GWB bombed his own friends in his own country in order to get bogged down in two unwinnable conflicts at a cost of 2 trillian and growing with no end in sight. To a conspiracy theorist I guess that makes sense...
By the way, are you saying that the FIRST jihadist attempt to blow up the WTC in 1993 was also an evil conspiracy by the US government?

So, Shiite islam is A-OK? No problem at all with that? Remember who put the death fatwa on Rushdie, who is financing the Hizbollah and the Hamas, and who wrote a letter to the US, formally asking them to surrender to islam or else?
Those weren´t Wahabis.
Think again?

Anyway, the juciest conspiracies are missing... what about Illuminati, Reptilians, hollow earth, Underground cities, year 2012, Planet Nibiru and so on?
Moon landing, Kennedy assassination 9/11 truthers... bah, old stuff.

LOL, that is a tall order, considering Obama is trying to out-French the French.
I expect a lot of hot air from the meeting, but no agreement (and that is actually for the better in this case).

There is no point in arguing with conspiracy nuts. They will stick to their juicy conspiracies, no matter what we say.

That is one of these "only in Japan" stories. The taxi driver got suspicious after the guy had to borrow 1000 yen from him. A classic!

They are fleeing the islamist hellholes of Northern Africa in order to go to Europe, enjoy the benefits of modern secular welfare states, and then proceed to introduce Sharia, the very cause of the horrors they ran away from, in their host countries. How ironic.

Alas, the government of Pakistan is part of the problem, not part of the solution. Pakistan has written the Shariah into its constitution, so it has no real basis to address the jihadists. Moderate Pakistani governments can only treat the symptoms of the problem, not the cause.

No, people like you make the problem worse by blanking out the "islamic" part of the "islamic jihad" menace that the world is facing. The jihadis are simply following the islamic doctrine to the letter. In their mind, they are doing gods work.

Actually, mostly black Christians and animists in Southern Sudan. Which makes it all the more unlikely that the Arab League loses any sleep about it.

The Arab league is not going to to get excited about human rights. A little genocide in Darfur, who cares among brothers. Now, if someone had "offended" the religion of peace, that would be a different story!

Madverts:
You are exactly demonstrating the trap that Western intelligentsia and politicians have set for themselves in dealing with fundamentalist islam. "We must not warn of radical islam for fear of creating more radical islam"... or so the logic goes. Doesn´t it occur to you that by definition there is a problem when believers become violent radicals when being criticized? For Pete´s sake we freely lambast the pope almost daily, and nobody is afraid of creating radical Catholics who will blow up our trains and airplanes!

What an idiotic statement by Holbrooke. As if there was any difference between Jihadis in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or anywhere else, the US included.
They read from the same book and emulate the life of the same warlord.

LOL! Which islam would that be? Not the one lined out in the Koran and the Sunna, and certainly not the one taught in the madarassas in Pakistan. If you want to invent a new version, good for you, but say so.

While Obama is sending ever more soldiers on a wild goose chase to Afghanistan, in Pakistan the jihadis are rapidly getting their next Taliban state... and this time one with nukes.
But don´t wait for criticism for the still Obama-struck media...
