" I don't eat whale meat, I don't have a particular concern for the whaling industry."

I think you are missing the point that the Japanese whaling researchers are claiming to NOT to be whailing, but to be doing RESEARCH on whales, thus using a giant loophole in an international convention to sail their factory ship through.

What exactly are the whale researchers researching in their factory ship?

    Have they ever explained?

My opinion of the J-constabulary is as low as anyones, but you have to admit that dealing with a stalker is an almost impossible task for them. They are not legally able to arrest the guy, and they can not offer 24/24 bodyguards for all of the potential victims. So what do the critics expect them to do?

Let them eat it, as long as it is properly labelled.

I don´t understand the "delicacy" aspect anyway. I tried fugu and found it mushy and tasteless. Definitely not worth the price.

They are now trying to lure him back with tape recorded penguin love calls. Don´t fall for it, pengi! They are lying! Swim!

With a declining population, there is no reason for this futile "cleanup". It would be much better to enlarge the no-go zone and re-draw it according to the shape of the polluted area. Whoever wants to live there should do at his own risk, just like the couple of old people who live next to the Chernobyl reactor.

With the passage of time, the radiation will gradually subside (with the strongest radiating isotopes decaying most rapidly), and gradually the no-go zone can be reduced.

The current policy is a combination of bone-headed emotional stubbornness and the traditional government pork to the construction industry. In effect, more "bridges to nowwhere", with which Japan is already riddled.

Sensationalism. It could hit tomorrow, or it could hit in 1000 years. Nobody knows. We don´t know, and those researchers don´t know. Of course, the city has to do everything possible to be prepared. But there is no news value in announcements like this.

Clearly she is lying. If had come back "frequently" to feed them, they wouldn´t die of dehydration. Sheesh.

" America's privatised health care system (even before Obamacare) was the worst in the developed world. "

Are you joking? Then why are people from countries with nationalized healthcare (e.g. Britain) travelling to the US for the highest level treatment?

You can me a legitimate argument that healthcare should be nationalized for philosophical reasons. But you can not legitimately argue that the examples of natinalized healthcare we see in reality anywhere are either cheap or qualitatively superior. They are neither.

Where Japan has to offer substantial value to particular tourists, they will come (for example the Australians for skiing).

Simply for sightseeing, Japan is an expensive destination, except for Koreans and Chinese, and therefore the number of sightseeing tourists will always be limited.

There is simply nothing anybody can do about that. It is reality, live with it.

So how much public money did Obama plow into this turkey?

That was truly a stimulating experiment in economic mismanagement.

I think cats should have no problem living feral... most of the ones around my house are doing that anyway. I agree that dogs should be rounded up as much as possible.

Next, they will sail to the straits of Hormuz to take their anti-nuke message to Iran, which has promised to "wipe out" other countries.

Of course, they will, because they are not hypocrits, and they are really concerned about nuclear arms......

    Or will they?
