    It amazes me how many people hate Christians. I am not a religious person (agnostic) myself but too many folks somehow are unable to understand that people are different and don't always think the way they do. I'm talking to you know-it-all atheists who seem to think that you somehow understand everything just because you are not religious. Being religious doesn't make people evil. So Gov. Perry is a Christian - so what? So is Obama and he uses religion as part of his politics all the time. He certainly used Rev. Wrights church to his political advantage. Being religious or at least accepting that their can be something greater than oneself causes people to humble themselves to some degree or another. It's good to see a politician acknowledge that they don't have all of the answers - regardless of party.

    That’s much to the delight of Democrats, who are working to paint the anti-tax, pro-small government tea party and the eventual Republican nominee as extreme.

    What is extreme is standing by and doing nothing while your government spends itself into oblivion and doing everything possible - including false claims of racism - in order to stop any reform efforts. It is as if the "extreme" parts of the Democrat party want to preserve social programs that are unsustainable no matter what the consequences. Look at Europe and you see America's future. The big three social programs - Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - must be reformed or the entire countries future will be nothing more than a steady decline and social chaos.

    Is this the pivot to jobs we keep hearing about? I hope so, President Obama's re-election will be here before you know it.

    @plasticmonkey:

    How can anyone deny the perverted sexual element that's at play here?

    I agree with this sentiment but how is AKB48 different than anything else in modern society? Young girls are sexualized all the time in the West and in East Asian counties. Let's see, there are beauty pagents for five year old girls, teens placed in very adult situations on television and in movies. Scan through a few magazines at the news stand in Japan and it's not hard to find under aged girls dressed in a manner we wouldn't want to see our own daughters or neices. It's sad, but the shock has worn off.

    Unfortunately, we are caught up in a time when ethics and morality are very fluid and constantly questioned. There is no question in my mind that the people running AKB48 put those girls in situations that they shouldn't be in. But it's also true that what they are doing is acceptable to their parents and is accepted by modern society. This happens when the line is pushed constantly year after year and then one day you wake up and discover why your parents were so appalled when you were young. I just think it's changing faster now than ever. You know what they say, sex sells - and in this case, it sells a million.

    @Oracle:

    Yeah, the U.S. and its coalition allies would NEVER deliberately attack civilians. Sure. You keep telling yourself that.

    It's not very likely that you will get many other Liberals to agree with you since the drone attacks are a key part of President Obama's strategy in Pakistan. Even Conservatives understand that Obama's expansion of Bush's use of drone's in the war against terrorists has been successful. The drone attacks have been successful for many years and have been deliberately targeted at terrorist targets. Suicide bombers on the other hand, are deliberately targeting civilians. Is it really that hard to understand the difference?

    Amazing. Genetics and training shows in the Kenyan sweep. Japanese women have had much success in distance races in the past - this just wasn't their day.

    I agree, the game should not be about taunts. It's about the competition. Fans need to keep things in perspective. It's a game - though international athletics has importance in it's own way for various reasons - in the end it is something to be enjoyed. Too many fans tend to place way too much meaning into the success of their team.

    I didn't see the race but do realize that athletes competing at this level are obviously not your ordinary fitness buff. They have a uncommon dedication that to a casual sports fan seems fanatical. It may be that Kinukawa's competitiveness got the best of her judgement as to her fitness level and preparedness for this particular race. As to her size/weight, long distance runners do look like they are malnourished and unfit though the opposite is the case. They consume large amounts of calories because of the energy that is expended in training and in competition. Hope she has a better result in her next race.

    GE had been the recipient of heavy tax subsidies long before President Obama took office, so your point is rather dumb.

    It is not a dumb point when you are a President that goes around the country insisting that corporations are evil and should be paying their "fair share". It is not dumb when the company that is led by your Jobs and Competitiveness Czar is paying less in taxes than Warren Buffet's secretary.

    If the U.S. distribution of wealth is as lopsided as it currently is, then I am one of a majority of Americans who, when asked, favor using the tax system to alleviate it.

    Wealth distribution will always be lopsided. Even the Soviets had their wealthy elites but with the vast majority of people on the bottom of the income scale. It is not the job of the government to make sure that everyone gets a relatively equal amount of wealth. Only a Politburo can do that - but I guess that is the goal of neo-Socialists/Progressives - to institute a new form of Politburo that dictates how who can have what. No thanks!

    Go with the flow Mike - your relationships will last longer. Send Yuko at text - in English - asking to meet up sometime and catch up on things. If she accepts, great. If not, learn to stop over analyzing things and get on with life. The stresses of living in a foreign country can cause anyone to question themselves; but in this case you should have just let your relationship evolve - go with the flow my friend.

    @sourpuss:

    In other words, what you learned was the way people thought psychology and biology SHOULD be, and not how they really are, which very much reflects the way the slutwalk is based on how things should be, instead of dealing with things as they really are.

    This is an excellent point about what the organizers of the "Slut Walk" don't get. Yes, in a perfect world, there would be no crime and women dressed like "sluts" wouldn't be a target for rape. However, given that this is not how the real world works, you would think that these seemingly educated women would use some common sense and advocate doing things that would likely lessen their chance of being a victim of this crime. This isn't to blame the victims of rape but to make the case that woman are much less likely to be raped if they try to avoid putting themselves in a situation where they could be attacked.

    It is regrettable that the term "Slut" is used to promote this social awareness event. Slut is slang for whore, prostitute, etc. and such people are by definition looking for sexual contact of some sort or other. SlutWalk is a poor choice of words to say the least.

    President Obama needs a nice break from all the aggravation he's had to put up with.

    The American people need a nice break from all from all of the aggravation that President Obama has put them through. People who are looking for a job don't need to see Obama on television everyday blaming someone else for his lack of results.

    In GE's case, they received $4.7 billion from US taxpayers in addition to the $7.7 billion in U.S. profits. Why should U.S. taxpayers be subsidizing a highly profitable company to the tune of a -61% tax rate?

    I couldn't agree with you more. But this is what you get when the government uses the tax code to subsidize things that it decides should be produced. In GE's case, they get a ton of government assistance from the US federal government to pursue green technologies. Add the fact that President Obama is buddies with GE Chairman Jeffrey Immelt and voila! No taxes! This is just one example of why the federal tax code is so convoluted, inefficient, and just plan corrupt.

    Tax reform is one very important way that the US can get it's budget under control. Cut out the loopholes for GE and other big companies that both parties have been using to get companies and interest groups to give them campaign contributions or support their political goals. The tax code must be simple and must not be used as a vehicle for politicians to get re-elected. To do this, the tax rates must be flat (or flatter) with no loopholes (including mortgage deductions). Will this happen? Of course not - Obama will never go for any tax system that isn't targeted towards redistribution and punishing companies and individuals that he and other neo-Socialist feel make too much money. It's a foolish mentality that places his ideological goals above the countries dire fiscal situation.

    It is certain that President Obama will collect a ton of cash from all of those millionaires and billionaires up at Martha's Vineyard for the US Treasury - or should I say - his re-election fund. As for your promised jobs plan, take your time Mr. President, America is used to waiting for you to do something to get the economy going again.

    Presidents are never really on vacation so it doesn't do much good to complain a lot about how often they take vacations. However, the timing of the vacation and the place do matter politically. He does himself no favors by vacationing in the ultra elite Martha's Vinyard - a place swarming with those same millionaires and billionaires that he is for ever criticizing for not paying their "fair share" (as if it is not fair that these folks already pay a large chunk of total tax receipts). Then their is the matter of his vacation coming right on the heals of his grand announcements that he "will not rest" until the jobs situation is turned around. Well, guess what? The job situation is looking as shaky as ever and he will be getting his share of rest up there with his rich buddies.

    The announcement that President Obama is finally releasing an economic plan nearly three years into his administration, and shortly on the heals of his Darth Vader bus tour through battleground states in the Midwest, is not anything to get excited about. I don't believe for a minute that any plan he comes up with will be anything other than a rehash of the same old "shovel ready", porkulus, enviro-subsidies, and tax hikes that has led to his current 26% economic approval rating.

    Obama has no new ideas. He is only seeking to regain the political initiative from Republicans while he prays the economy will somehow improve over the next 15 months. I still don't think he is capable of putting anything into legislation (in-writing) especially since he is so single-mindedly focused on his reelection above all else.

    Cut tax loopholes by implementing a flat tax and slash spending to sustainable levels. Raising taxes - Obama's only economic idea - will just send the economy back into recession. It's just common sense.

    yabits:

    Well, the Republicans controlled the White House and Congress for most of Bush's two terms -- while spending like crazy -- so how come they didn't push for a balanced budget amendment when they had the much better opportunity?

    That's a good point - I wish they did. However, arguing over the past doesn't do any good now especially since the debt has risen dramatically under both Bush and Obama's presidencies. The debt even rose under Clinton since he only balanced the annual budget for a year or two and had more years of deficit spending that led to an increase in the overall debt. It would be irrational and moronic to say that nothing should be done about it now under a Democrat because Republicans (and Democrats) ran up the debt in the past.

    Oracle: "Men see it as a "possible" invitation to sex, not rape."

    Really? So you think rape is okay?

    You know as well as I do that Oracle is not saying that rape is okay. A "possible" invitation for sex is of course, not the same as rape.
