Please. Homosexuals are born homosexuals -- it's biological, not a life-style choice. Only fools continue to believe it to be.

So you are saying people don't choose who they have sex with? You are going down a path that you probably don't want to go with this line of reasoning. There are other sexual preferences that are also prevalent in society that could also be considered 'biological' that even Liberals and homosexuals would still find repugnant. A fuller discussion of this would likely be off subject but give it some thought and you will realize what I mean.

Alphaape: In reference to your comments to smithinjapan-

@smithinjapan: if the American military is not honorable, then why all the big ado about letting gays serve openly. By your logic, you should be telling gays not to enter and get as far away as possible, vice jumping on the bandwagon that this is a great day for human rights.

I've always believed that there are two reasons that Liberals were pushing to have the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy changed. 1) a method to train society into believing that homosexuality is moral, 2) to damage the military - an institution that they have loathed for decades. With this reply, my second point has been made.

Intolerance? You cannot engage in facts so you call people names? That might score points with your Liberal buddies but it reveals a shallowness in your thinking on this matter.

I know it is popular to turn this into a religious issue, but it is a civil rights issue. Some people used to think that black people should not be in the military, but that has changed. Citizenship and human rights are supposed to be independent of race, color, creed, etc. Why is that so hard to understand?

I agree, this is not a religious issue. What is hard to understand is why some people conflate acceptance of homosexuality in the military as a 'civil rights' issue similar to allowing blacks to serve on an equal basis in the armed services (by the way, blacks have always served in one capacity or another going back to the Revolutionary War). The issue with black Americans following WWII was integration. I don't know how you can integrate a person who identifies him or herself by their sexual practices. Integrating blacks in the military was a civil rights issue because race is not something based on a persons behavior. One's "race, color, creed, etc." is not a behavior, it is a physical characteristic.

So, homosexuality is immoral and now that a person who is already in the military can openly say they are gay (instead of hiding it) it is a 'decline' in a decent and honorable institution? Come on, bro, drop the bible and start to understand that sexual orientation does not matter when pointing a gun. As for the American military being 'honorable'... haha.

First of all, I do not carry a bible as I am agnostic about religion. Although there is a bible in my house along with a lot of other books. You shouldn't assume that everyone that considers morality to be important to be a Christian or a member of any other religion. Yes, in my opinion homosexuality reflects a decline in Western cultural morality that corresponds closely to the overall decline of the West in general. Europe and North America taken as a whole have in the literal sense - become culturally, morally, and financially bankrupt. As for the ability to point a gun, all kinds of bad people are able to point a gun; but that isn't really the point now is it? The point is forcing other people to accept homosexuality as acceptable. Don't Ask Don't Tell was itself a ridiculous policy but it was at least tolerable.

There are now no legitimate reasons for separating men and women for any purpose in the military. If an openly gay man can shower with heterosexual men, why can't an openly heterosexual man shower with a woman? If an openly gay woman can sleep in the same quarters with heterosexual women, then why can't a woman sleep in the same quarters as men? There is no logical reason to make any distinctions based on sexuality anymore. Sex was the reason for separating men and women - now that rationale is gone. Based on this new social view that has been forced upon the military, to keep men and women separated now can only be considered discriminatory.

The sad thing is this policy change serves to crystalize what most people must surely see by now; and that is there is no longer any such thing as a commonly accepted morality in the United States. Personal character and honor are all relative and not anchored to anything in the nations culture. It's a shame to see this general decline of American values in one of the few institutions left in the country that had still been considered decent and honorable. What is the next perversion that is now generally considered unacceptable by all in society that will in the not too distant future become normal?

Why should Assange be afraid? He knows what is best for everyone else and he believes that people should be held responsible for their actions. Besides, if he were to be indicted and sent to the US he will be able to spend the rest of his life in jail with a big grin on his face doing the Dr. Evil laugh... Uwahahahahaaaa. He would love every minute of that! Then, he can get some Leftist spy within the US government to turn over some papers about how Assange is being denied his human rights because several of his fellow prisoners forced themselves on him without using protection.

Liberals in the West love Chavez so I doubt we will hear much criticism from the US media or the Liberal elitists on this. The only question now is whether or not President Obama will also request similar powers before the 2012 election or will he wait until his hoped for re-election. As for Hitler - his political party had the word 'socialist' in it's title. Of course he was a socialist. He believed in centralized authority and control of the economy and industry. Wartime Germany was unquestionably socialist. There are different types of socialism which aims to achieve different levels of control of the collective. German socialism was infused with nationalist and nativist elements - traits found in the socialist movements of many nations. Facism is simply the raw political philosophy necessary to achieve socialist aims - and vice versa.

This is a unique situation and the system handled it appropriately. It's a shame it took more than two years - it's amazing how inefficient government bureaucracies are.

Global Warming theory excludes the possibility of principle causes of world climate change other than human. Although most sensible scientists will admit that the ability of human beings to understand our climate and weather remains limited, some true believers take it on faith - rather than conclusive scientific evidence - that man has caused the rise in Earth's temperatures.

Advanced nations know how to control the significant causes to pollution such as smog, acid rain, and contaminated water. This doesn't preclude economic growth or a return to stone age living conditions. It also isn't necessary to destroy free markets.

Does anyone still believe that Hansen and NASA are a credible source of information?

Those that do not believe in politicizing science do not trust anything coming from Hansen, the UN, East Anglia, or any other of the many Leftists or Leftist groups pushing the man-made global warming agenda. For the remaining hard core believers, this is simply a matter of faith for them. Facts and science are tools they use to justify the means to achieve their political goals.

If you like bipartisanship and compromise without having to make any hard choices, this deal is for you. If you like doing hardly anything to help the economy and adding to America's huge national debt, this deal is for you too. If you also like watching Democrats get angry at President Obama, whose party currently holds overwhelming majorities in Congress, you got that as well. Otherwise, there isn't much to like about it.

I watched Obama's short and highly partisan press conference a little while ago. He folded like a cheap suit to Republicans. I am pretty shocked at how easily he rolled over. He complained about the upper income tax cuts on the basis that they would add to the annual deficit - but then got a continuation of his own tax cuts that were to expire at the end of the year and over one years worth of additional unemployment payments! Each side got the goodies they wanted but neither side was willing to make any tough choices regarding deficit spending. Pathetic!

The man-made global warming industry has been discredited due to the politicization of the issue by activist scientists, academics, eco-corporatists, and environmental interest groups. The frustration noted in this article is due to the fact that people have become wise to the wealth redistribution agenda at the heart of the global warming lobby's efforts and do not support the hugely expensive solutions they espouse.

Much of the hoopla is over the amount of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere by industrialized nations. The problem is that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was miniscule before the industrial revolution and remains miniscule to this day. The global warming lobby is using cooked up statistics subterfuge to convince people that human beings are causing weather and temperature changes worldwide. The simple truth is that the world warmed and cooled before the industrial revolution and even before the existence of humans on the planet.

Conferences like this are a joke and a complete waste of resources that could be better used on efforts that would actually benefit people. Give it up already...

    medievaltimes:

It is possible to have a committed relationship without being married. It is possilbe to have a "significant tie" without being married. Many people stay together not only for the sake of their children but for fear of failing their relationship.

Yes, this is very true. However, without marriage it is much less likely for a couple to remain together over the long term; and much more likely to have many more short-term relationships than those that are married.

Historically, marriage has provided the strong social environment for raising children and developing healthy relationships within and outside of families. The decline in the importance of marriage has resulted in huge social problems that are harmful to society.

It is true that the rules for marriage are very much arbitrary. If the government recognizes gay marriage this fact will not be any less true. For example, marriage will still be illegal for bi-sexuals who want to be in committed relationships with their significant "others". It simply means that more exceptions will be demanded in the future and there will be no rationle for making such limitations. Therefore, marriage is devalued and nothing special or important for anyone.

It is unclear whether Palin is talking about sanctions against North Korea, or U.S. sanctioning -- i.e. approving or supporting -- its actions.

It was pretty clear to me what she is referring to sanctions against North Korea. In fact, re-read your own quote of Palin's comments:

..."and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do,"

It is very disgengenuous to suggest that she somehow supports North Korea's actions. Her entire interview was very tough towards North Korea. You are simply trying to isolate a statement and detach it from the context of the overall point she was putting forth in order to try to deligitimize her. Are you not able to understand the meaning of the word 'sanction' in the context of her statement? Of course you do. There are legit concerns about Palin's experience and her temprament for the job of President that can be discussed. Nit-picking like this is silly and reveals an irrational hatred towards her more than anything else.

The show is amazing. The production value is first-rate. Deep down however, it's shallow. It's shameless self-pandering.

She will not run. However, if I am wrong and she does end up running, then I agree with Taka's sentiment here. She quits her job as governor and runs for president with a self-promotional television show? I realize that the evolving media environment has changed how candidates run for political office, but this is just too overly self-centered for my taste.

I happen to like Palin in general and am alarmed at how the Left's allies in the media have been able to run a coordinated smear campaign against her. When she hit the national scene, the Left saw her as a huge political threat and they went after her in every way imaginable.

The way in which she has been attacked is very similar to the old line media hit job against Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich. Gingrich was an easy target and didn't have Reagan's teflon personality. In addition to his affability, Reagan had years of experience in politics going back to his days as an FDR Democrat and leader of a union. His ideas and political thinking were well thought out and developed. By contrast, like Obama, Palin is much newer to politics and simply lacks experience. America doesn't need another novice political leader.

Obama and Palin's gaffes aren't in the same league. "Hell, it 'aint even the same goddamned sport".

If you actually saw or heard the interview you would understand that she simply misspoke. Beck pointed out her mistake, she say's "yeah" and a few seconds later says, "... we are bound by prudence to stand by our South Korean allies". It is silly to try to make this into something it isn't. But if this helps Liberals deal with the failure of Obamanomics and the shellacking in the mid-terms, then sure this isn't even in the same league.

But I suppose in a way the media and the Left's preoccupation with Palin can actually be very useful for Republicans over the next two years. This takes the scrutiny off of the serious contenders as they make their preparations for 2012. With the Obama administration imploding, attacking a female conservative that in all likelyhood will not run is the best the Left has to offer America. You can bet that with Republicans taking the House, there will not be any more socialist legislation getting out of Congress.
