The Japanese have gotten Al Gore disease big time. They are all 'eco this and eco that' to the point that it's like Kim Il Jung is handling the environmental propaganda campaign for them. But they draw the line when it comes to those tasty tuna and whale - that's just going too far.
As for Fujiwara - she is looking good.

My guess is that you are not a member of the Tea Party as that would explain your lack of knowledge of their goals. Opposition to Obama's goal of higher taxation and enlarging governments role in the lives of private citizens does not equate to personal animosity to the President himself. It does cause serious fears on the part of those that believe in the Constitution. America is not just a collection of people, it was created as a very unique way of organizing a society based on the inate rights of individuals (ie. life, liberty, 'pursuit' of happiness). For supporters of the Tea Party, Obama's policies do not support these inate rights.

He screwed himself by freaking out over his stop-loss order. Anyone would have been upset about being retained in the military when they had planned to get out. However, the possibility is a part of his contract and he did sign up during wartime. I don't think it is likely that he is really a threat to be violent but what he did had to be taken seriously.

Given that it has been the goal of the Democrat party to avoid debate by calling anyone who doesn't believe in cradle-to-grave statism as racist and stupid it is no surprise that Levin, big Labor Unions, and the Democrat party have been attempting since last Summer to undermine the Tea Party. The Tea Party is mostly White but it isn't racist and never has been. Only those that are afraid that American's are becoming repulsed by Obama's sharp turn towards Socialism and extreme levels of debt and taxation would be trying so hard to change the subject to race. Now we know that all of these allegations of racism have been staged by Liberals for their allies in the media to use as a means to discredit their political adversaries. The Democrat Party will use any means necessary to pursue their agenda.
Individual liberty and freedom from government is what the Tea Party is all about. This is also the sole reason why the United States exists today. The Tea Party is anti-Socialist and therefore anti-Obama. They are considered to be enough of a threat to Liberals/Socialists that they need their allies in the media and scum like Jason Levin to actively oppose them. The Democrats do not want anyone to be free from government - especially minorities - a group that they rely upon as a base for their political power. Race-baiting is by now a traditional method by which the Democrat party keeps minorities in line and America divided and separated from the individualism taught by the country's Founders.

The Tea Party is a leaderless grassroots organization that is genuinely upset by the direction of America. I think a lot of them are conservatives who have quit the Republican party or at least alienated from it - as am I. The deficit and debt are a threat to the country like no other since WWII. The huge bailouts given to large companies, the huge pork "stimulus" bill, and now ObamaCare is simply killing the country. We used to be upset when we had a yearly federal deficit of $300 billion. Now the yearly debt is $1.7 trillion - and will remain over a trillion for as far as the eye can see. This is a disaster and it is no wonder that people are upset. American's are right to be upset with a with a federal government that this incompetent.
By the way, the Tea Party aren't a bunch of idiots as portrayed by the media. Even a NY Times/CBS News poll has found that most are more educated than the general public.

Palin has been caricatured by the Liberal media just as most effective Conservatives are. Liberals are so sexist - when the object of their scorn do not think they way they are supposed to.
Sarah Palain has about as much chance of becoming President as Hillary Clinton - which is zero. However, she is an effective speaker and she is doing well for herself. Conservatives love her and Liberals love to hate her; now that's a win-win situation right there!
The anti-tax message is extremely powerful because most American's now realize that Obama is a statist spend-a-holic. He will surely try to raise taxes on the 90% of Americans he said he wouldn't tax. When he does, the revolt against his socialist policies will begin in earnest. He is ruining the fiscal health of the country and he doesn't even seem to care. This November's election should be interesting.

I kind of like the fact that in Japan the celebrities stick with either commercial or public service endorsements. In the West, celebrities politicize themselves and force people to either like or dislike them based on their politics. It is tiresome and divisive.
Maeda is well known among younger people in Japan and she has brought attention to a civic campaign to promote traffic safety. At worst this event is harmless. At best, perhaps a few people will not be injured or killed in a traffic accident.
The only question I have is what will Takahashi Ai be endorsing this Spring?

herefornow says:
No, I don't believe so. I "was" a Catholic as a child because my family was. I am no longer a member of any organized religion and consider myself to be more or less agnostic at this point in my life. However, the NY Times attacks the Catholic Church because of their politics. Liberals are generally antagonistic towards religion (except for Muslim jihadi's for some reason) even those that profess to be religeous themselves.
The NY Times is the most openly partisan newspapers in the US and they attack the Catholic Church because it furthers their ideological agenda. The number of preists involved in man on boy sex crimes over the years is definitely large enough to warrant significant attention from the media. However, the NY Times is waging war on the a conservative Pope and Vatican while ignoring the details of the sex lives of those priests involved in these crimes for political reasons.

SushiSake says:
Yes, that is the problem. My point is that the NY Times coverage is over the top compared to most other news organizations. The NY Times is Liberal and the Catholic church is considered too Conservatives on issues such as gay marriage and abortion. The NY Times very often goest after it's enemies in it's news reporting. Their reporting on the Catholic Church is no different.

It is unfortunate that the NY Times is off on a vendetta against the Catholic Church for purely ideological reasons. Howerver, until everything comes out and the Church can assure their adherents that priests are not preying on little boys, they will continue to get hammered - and deservedly so.

If you take a chance and travel to a foreign country in a part of the world that everyone knows has very strick moral standards, then you have to play by their rules and mind your manners in public. Just save public displays of affection for the privacy of your room.
Or - if you are super rich - you can get an outrageously expensive hotel room at a very decadent high rise hotel, order up a few prostitutes and have a smashing good time! I doubt that is a crime in Dubai.

Geez, that's a terrible thing to say about your fellow patriots. It just so happens that a relatively large percentage of those "repubs" are either in the military or are former military.
President Obama is right to increase troops in Afghanistan. It's the only thing he has done that most Americans agree with. I just hope he didn't say any of crappy things to their faces that he said about them during the campaign.

Having cheerleaders is always fun at sporting events (or any other event for that matter). I think it is pretty cool that Japan is accepting of things from other countries. Just because they have cheerleaders and even American football teams in Japan doesn't mean they have given up on their own culture. That's like saying there shouldn't be Judo or Karate in Western countries and more Fencing or something.
Cheerleading gives young girls and women something athletic to do and is a social activity as well. Japanese high school girls probably join the cheerleading team because it's a lot of fun. I know that there is a Japanese woman that is a cheerleader for Washington in the NFL.
