President Obama is pretty much officially the most partisan president in the most partisan periods of the last 100 or more years of American history. He has been shoving Leftist legislation through the Congress on party line votes from the day he entered the White House. He is the first President to push any major social policy without any bipartisan support at all. He involved himself in secretive deals with pharmasutical and insurance companies and has allowed his proxies in the Senate and House to use pay for play tactics pitting state against state in order to get his unpopular health care policy passed. Every poll indicates that Americans are against the Obama/Democrat health care plan! Ref: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/obamaanddemocratshealthcare_plan-1130.html

A majority of Americans are against ObamaCare and believe that it will not reduce costs much less bend the cost curve or reduce the deficit. In fact, all of the short-comings of the current health care system will be magnified all in the name of Obama's ego. What good will all of this guaranteed government health care be when the government has no money to provide it? Is it humane or moral to promise health care as a right to everyone and then bankrupt your nation trying to do so? This entire health care effort serves only the interests of those in power now and leaves the consequences of such irresponsibility to be sorted out at some point in the future - just as does Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Increasing the burden on a government that is already under historic levels of financial strain is not only irresponsible, it is criminal. America is becoming a banana republic before our very eyes and Obama is our own Hugo Chavez.

Republicans are determined to give Democrats no help, eager to deny Obama a political victory and speculating openly that the health care issue will hurt Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections.

Wow, the AP is at it again with their one sided pro-Left "news". I just wish anyone in Congress would oppose this monstrosity for the sake of the nations financial future and the freedom of individuals to chose their own health care without government coercion.

President Obama's last minute decision to go to the final day negotiations of the "man-made" global warming summit in Copenhagen further illustrates his impotence as a world leader. He has traveled more than any other president at this point in his presidency and has an unprecedented lack of achievement to show for it. What the Copenhagen summit perfectly illustrated was that the man made global warming scare is more about Leftist ideologoy than anything else. Note the thunderous reception that Hugo Chavez received compared to the fact that China actively sought to avoid meeting with Obama.

The facts about the real causes for global warming are irrelavent to the purposes of wealth redistribution. Al Gore will not debate anyone on man-made global warming because he knows that he cannot defend his position without resorting to exaggerated scare tactics (ie. that North Pole ice will melt completely in five years). For years there has been a concerted effort to prevent any discussion of mans effect on the world's climate. Scientists are unable to determine what the temperature will be in a week or a month but are confident that they can say what it will be in 50 to 100 years. It's unscientific and as the Climategate e-mail and computer code show, it is a fraud and motivated by ego, arrogance, and politics.

We can all be thankful that President Obama and all of the other world leaders have failed to agree on taking forceful government action in the face of incomplete and fraudulant science and many greater problems that face the people of the world.

Although not deserved, it is almost worth seeing President Obama get the award just to hear a Left-wing politician actually admit that evil exists in the world. That's progress for the Progressives (ie. Socialists).

This is all a useless exercise in futility. Cutting "emissions" isn't going to stop the fact that emissions will continue to rise dramatically due to the industrialization of underdeveloped nations. Besides, CO2 is such a tiny proportion of the atmosphere it's crazy to get so worked up about it. Global warming will always occur - as will global cooling as long as there is a planet earth.

This should be good news for those that travel back and forth between Japan and the US. More competition should mean more options and better prices. The stewardesses on US carriers will still be old hags with about as much charm as a bag of nuts but at least it will probably cost less to be jammed into a planes fuselage like a sardine.

The climate always changes and has always changed throughout the history of the planet Earth. CO2 makes up a very tiny percentage of the atmosphere and human emissions add an even tinier amount. There is a lot of money to be had by scientists and control to be had by left leaning politicians. We shouldn't waste trillions on stopping the Earths climate from changing because it is not possible. In the past humans were smart enough to adapt when the climate changed; now we are too stupid to even consider doing so.

Look people, there is a consensus on this man-made global warming thing because the Europeans say so (and naturally President Obama says so too). No need to get any other opinions because there are literally thousands if not hundreds of thousands of scientists that know definitively that human-beings and human-beings alone are responsible for causing the planet to get sick with a terrible fever. It is time to dispense with these messy contrarian scientific 'theories' such as the effects of ocean currents, the sun, and the fact that Earth has always had a changing climate and begin micro-managing the lives of every human on the planet. There is no room for dissent in science - especially political science.

It was really hot in the 1930's and it was even hotter during the Middle Ages. The climate always changes and will continue to do so for as long as planet Earth exists. Are we to assume that the present average global temperatures are the most ideal and therefore must remain static for the rest of human history? Humans are adept at adapting to climate change. Accept it as a reality and move on people!

“There is a call for loyalty that is stronger in some ways than in other racial communities,”

Yes, it's called "racism". The black community often shows that it is not willing to integrate with the rest of society even though they pushed so hard to be treated just like anyone else some half a century ago. It's absurd that blacks are upset that Woods will not idenify himself as being black. He rightfully tells everyone that he is of mixed race. It's ironic that blacks have taken on the racist "one-drop" rule of their former oppressors as their own. This is the same way of thinking that caused blacks to flee Hillary Clinton during the Democrat primaries towards Obama as he chose to be black instead of mixed race (which is what he actually is). He sees himself as a black man and has even insinuated that his white mother is a racist. The black community ate that up and swarm to his defense during the Rev. Wright scandal.

For Woods, he has a preference for white girls that much is obvious. The latest tally has the count up to 6 white woman who have claimed an affair with him. He has made of fool of his wife in much the same way that former President Clinton made a fool out of Hillary. The only question is whether or not Woods' wife will 'stand by his man' in the same way that Hillary did.

I really like what I am hearing from President Obama on Afghanistan (well, it's really the only thing I like). Sure, there are a few things about the tone of his speech and the meaningless timeline that I could quibble with. However, with the big troop commitment and NATO actually coming up with upwards 7,000 troops - that is a positive sign. Obama has now nearly doubled the number of American troops in Afghanistan.

The Iraq war has been going well, now everyone needs to unify and defeat the recent rise in the Afghanistan insurgency. If only Obama could use the words 'lets win' or victory' every now and then ... I quess that's probably too much to ask.

It is quite amazing to see this big Man Made Global Warming summit in Copenhagen while at the same time the planet has been on a more than 11 year long cooling trend and the leading scientists behind the scam have been outed as frauds out for ideological gain (and government grant money to perpetuate the fraud). It is downright surreal.

    Starviking:

first, I think you want to say that 'increased carbon in the atmosphere has historically followed warming'.

Yes, that is what I meant to say. Thanks for making that clear.

Now - care to explain why in the past CO2 increases have followed warming?

There are studies by scientists that suggest that warming precedes increased concentrations of atmospheric CO2. I did a quick search and found this article that provides evidence that warming ocean temperatures results in release of greater amounts of CO2.

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/05/12/spencer-on-an-alternate-view-of-co2-increases/

Can you deny that increases in temperature do not in fact cause an increase in CO2 "emissions" from oceans?

My main point on this Climategate article is that levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are largely driven by natural factors and that human emissions are miniscule and therefore disprove the idea that man is the driving factor behind an increase in global temperatures. The fact that leading IPCC scientists are fudging the numbers and suppressing dissent from their man-made global warming theory is unscientific, unprofessional, and a global fraud.

That's actually true - but what our emissions are doing is upsetting the balance of carbon dioxide production and absorption in the global ecosystem. We're upsetting the balance, and we have to do something about it.

No we don't. Periodic volcano's also upset "the balance" as you put it by emitting huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. This is a natural occurrence and does not threaten the planet - and neither does man-made CO2.

Solar researchers have found that for the past 30 years the sun's output has been steady whilst out temperatures have been rising.

I'm not sure that is true as the sun goes through regular short and long-term cycles. We have just recently entered a period of decreased solar activity (and global temperatures have declined recently).

    Starviking says:

That's a non sequitor: historically forest fires were only started by lightning. Funnily enough man comes along and now we have plenty of forest fires started by man, not lightning.

You obviously missed the point. There are numerous alternatives to the man-made global warming theory - the fact that increased carbon in the atmosphere has historically 'preceded' warming is just one of many. Man is responsible for a miniscule amount of the carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

There is more legitimate evidence for solar activity as being preimarily responsible for global warming than man. The leading global warming scientists have 'politicized' climate research because of their shared ideology.

Historically, warming has "preceded" a rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide. Good post sfjp330.

News flash: Phil Jones at East Anglis's Climate Research Center (CRU) has stepped down from his position while the school investigates his involvement in the Climategate scandal. Also, Michael Mann at Penn State University is also being investigated by his university.

Given the opposition on his Left, President Obama did about as well as he could with his surge decison tonight. Conservatives will overwhelmingly support the surge with just a bit of whinning over Obama's drawdown talk after a few years. However, he did leave his options open by saying the withdrawal will depend upon conditions on the ground (sounds a little like Bush on that point). Although he won't admit it, Obama has learned from Bush's surge in Iraq and he apparently hopes to be able to follow the same path in Afghanistan.

Now that Obama has made this decision, it's time for Americans and hopefully America's closest allies to come together to get the job done. I hope that NATO can come up with at least 10,000 additional troops to support the surge.

    sf2k says:

Basically parsing data means fitting data. That's how graphs are made. If a graph is made of many data points the scales are not going to match.

The issue is not how the data is fitted to a graph. The problem is that the CRU scientists and Michael Mann are manipulating temperature data to show warming that is not actually occurring. They are doing this to re-enforce their warming models.
