Ethnomusicology? Say what? Seems that Meyer has a pre-occupation with racialism and is playing up race when the music should simply speak fot itself. It would be better to focus on musical genres instead of the ethnic/racial origins of music.

Adding another huge entitlement when the government is not able to figure out how to pay for the one's they already have is just unconscionable. Has everyone forgotten that President Obama has just recently created the biggest national debt in human history? It is logically impossible to cover 47 million more people (many not even citizens) without a spending and taxation explosion or severe rationing of medical services (or combination of both). Patients will lose their ability to choose the doctors and the services they want. Their very life will be run through a cost/benefit analysis regardless of their ability to pay.

The biggest cost of all is the freedom that American citizens will have to give up. The government will decide if you live or die and the quality of life you will have if you are lucky enough to survive the governmnt's medical bureaucracy. Just look at the way that the VA hospitals, Medicaid, and Medicare or being run today - they are a mess of waste, fraud, and abuse.

Oh, and where will the rich Canadians, Europeans, and people from the Middle East go when they need life-saving surgery when they are unable to get such services in their own countries?

In general, Asian airlines are much better than American carriers due to the unions and the unwillingness of American "flight attendents" to be feminine. JAL stewardess' are much younger than those on American Airlines - for example. They seem to enjoy their work and aren't just going though the motions. American Airlines is awful. Let's face it, it is much better to be attended to by a young cheerful lady rather than a old jaded one or some creepy gay dude.

OK - President Obama promised that he would change the world with his non-Bush foreign policy. He should probably get started with his new respectful foreign policy that the world seems to think will change everything. Obama just needs to sit down face-to-face with Kim Jong Ill and apologize for every slight - real or imagined - and that should calm down the situation. The North Koreans always respond well to these kinds of inducements.

To some extent, preservationists can be too overbearing in their desire to prevent change. A great thing about Japan is that it is constantly changing while some core aspects remain unchanged. This applies to architecture as well as the culture in general. Certainly, there are structures that have historic importance and deserve protection for that purpose alone. Others are just really old and should be maintainted due to their cultural importance regardless of their architectural qualities. Of the more modern buildings, it is my opinion that only those of true excellence should be preserved. This is surely a very small number of buildings; but nostalgia can be a very strong emotion that I think makes change difficult for some people...

This guy will be the first of many members of Al Queda that President Obama will end up releasing onto the streets of America. It's funny that Obama assumes that Ghailani will be convicted. I wonder if you will be surprised if the kangaroo court he is expecting let's the go off?

It's only 'after' he has run up the largest debt in the history of the United States that he wants pay-as-you-go rules. Geez - could have used that five months ago! President Obama is calling for fiscal discipline? He has barely gotten into office and he is already the most fiscal undisciplined president of all time. Don't worry Liberals, he isn't serious about paygo - he can always have Bernanke just print some more up for him.

I hate that the press does this to people. This is stalking and invasion of personal privacy. If a reporter wants information, they should do it in a straight-forward and honest fasion - ask for an interview. Stalking a celebrity is creepy and Ms. Sakai and her husband should be able to get a restraining order against people that do this kind of thing whether or not they are a deranged fan or a overzealous journalist. The public doesn't have a right to know about peoples private lives.

Does it really matter that the UN is investigating both Iran and Syria's nuclear activities? If they find something they won't actually do anything about it.

President Obama is placing an emphasis on his Muslim connections during his latest kowtow, apologize, and beg for cheap oil tour of the Middle East. I am sure that the King of Saudi Arabia will give him the best advice possible in the interests of America's national defense.

Pretty sad that people resort to violence like this. I am no fan of Dr. Tiller's three plus decades of infanticide - but killing him is wrong.

OK Liberals, let's take Sotomayors statement:

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life...

... and change it to this:

I would hope that a wise White man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a latina female who hasn't lived that life.

So you are not offended by either statement? This is precisely what this whole debate comes down to. Liberals think it is fine to direct what would overwise be termed a racist statement towards a white man. Somehow, they do not see the cognitive dissonance in seeing the world this way.

I can't see any Liberal not going bezerk over a similar statement to Sotomayor's but directed at a minority or woman. By the Left's own definition - Sotomayor is a bigot. If this is "gotcha politics", then I guess Conservatives have finally wised up and joined Liberals in their own game.

It was a shame that Clinton was so consummed with anger after he left office that he continually sought to undermine President Bush. W will be a much more constuctive ex-President than Clinton and Carter ever were. He will not try to cling to the power he has lost. Clinton and Carter have never gotten over the fact that they aren't the most important people in the world anymore.

When Trent Lott chose his words poorly he was branded a racist and bigot by Left-wingers and he lost his leadership post. Sotomayor may have chosen her words poorly but her actions in the firefighter case belie her attempts at hiding her true self. What is good for the Right, is good for the Left as well. If you say racist things and in her case do racist things (ie firefighters case) you must pay the price just as anyone must. Shouldn't Sotomayor be treated equally to any other person or should she be given special treatment? She is a bigot - period. Apparently, the Left loves bigots - when they are one of their own.

Unfortunately, President Obama doesn't really identify himself as multi-racial, but as a black man. He has used race to rise up through politics. The increase in mixed race people will hopefully end the Democrat Party's racial politics and end travesties such as affirmative action. The sooner the better for everyone.

President Obama will do a lot of talking but do absolutely nothing.

Then what country would loan us the money to take on another military action? We've still got a lot of military obligations as it is, and they aren't cheap.

No money - no problem. Obama will just borrow more and print more. That is what he has been doing since day one in office and he will do a lot more of that before all is said and done. But it will hardly come to blows with North Korea - at least if Obama has anything to do with it. He would happily bomb the Republican party's national headquarters before he dared tangle with North Korea. He is too afraid of the Leftists in his party to take any bold military action.

Looks like Barack is rubbing Dick the wrong way.

Since President Obama scheduled a dueling speech with Cheney on national security and Obama has just recently lost the Gitmo closure vote in Congress, I think it's likely that Dick is doing the rubbing.
