I loathe it when some dirty, snotty salaryman thinks pointing his sneeze in the vague direction of the mobile is in some way going to prevent the other people in the train carriage getting contaminated by his aerosol gyoza phlegm.

The money's only going to be wasted (in pork-barrel construction) or stolen outright (in fraudulent expense claims in the manner of the last God-knows-how-many agriculture ministers) anyway, so I'll have my scraps from the master's table if you please.

Pity I go to work six days a week to put the banquet on the master's table in the first place, mind you. It just makes a refreshing change to have the chance to waste some tax money for my own benefit and on my own initiative, without having to go through a very expensive middle man.

And would I be right in saying the half a year of discussions this shamble's already wasted (instead of any more substantial plans to fix the economy) has already cost more than any benefit we can expect to see?

Uehara said, “I wish the bell of love would ring.”

On the other hand, Takako makes my bell ring, and twitch a bit. Wonder if she'd like to have a look at it?

    Ring-a-ding-ding.

I think childish mascots are essential, don't you? That way, if someone I loved was trapped in a burning building, I could at least look at a man in a foam rubber suit and say "kawaii" to take my mind off it.

Because We Japanese are the only people in the world to have stressful lives, you see. We are unique in that respect.

    Bunch of children.

timeon - I am absolutely the last person on earth who needs to be reminded of that fact. The first word I say every morning is "D'oh"

Thank you anyway for rubbing a little salt into the still-open wound.

Around this time of year, I always ask myself: are baseball training camps always the most significant sports story of the day… or are Japanese TV stations just rubbish?

Surely, that's a trick question. Watch a Japanese TV station. Find the quality.

It would be easier to find a bookreader in that Paris Hilton pic a few days ago.

    Timeon -

WHen I come up with my definition of the "right girl" for me, that is a person that can also be my best friend

I used to know a girl with a very spirited carnal attitude and whose father was a millionaire distillery-owner. I wake up in tears every morning about letting that one get away.

    “Branding Yourself”

That's got to sting a bit, surely?

    Interesting story, but pretty far-fetched.

Drunk obnoxious pseudo-dwarf: no problem. Gaijin trying to defuse situation being shushed for "making problems": but of course.

Spontaneous teamwork amongst Japanese strangers creating an effective and appropriate response?

    Oh, come on now.

Can you imagine the hissy fit there would be from Ishihara if a dirty gaijin dressed up as Sakamoto Ryoma on stage, with a bowler hat on?

But put the boot on the other foot, and it's a unique Japanese culture jobbie.

Anyway, everyone knows Jesus looks like Robert Powell.

Get serious - with President Obama and the Democrats in charge of spending? They'll won't save it, they'll just spend it on some boondoggle.

As opposed to the conspicuous savings made by the previous administration. What was it, a few billion per month spent blowing stuff up overseas? Yep - that's the way to save.

Her children will be left at the mercy of her criminal, gold-digging widower and her insane, drug-addled mother. If you want to watch some circus tricks, wait for the bitter court case about which of these vermin gets the money. That's when you can start worrying about the kids.

Bish - quite right. Somebody isn't absolved from ignorance, bigotry and rank awfulness just by getting sick.

Since when does dying of cancer and selling your every remaining moment to the highest bidder make somebody admirable?

Two years ago, after her racist attack on another contestant, this behemoth couldn't have got back on TV for love or money. Now she's got cancer, she's suddenly St. Jade.

Plenty of other people die of cancer, and most of them have the self-respect to go with quiet dignity. Making a circus out of your own death is contemptible, but somehow, in this celebrity-obsessed age, Goody (and her good-for-nothing parasite of a jailbird husband) has managed it. And there are plenty of hacks in TV studios loving the revenue this woman's sickness is raking in for them.

Why is JPT peddling this junk?

Coz Bandai paid for the ad space, I imagine.

I feel much better about handing over money I worked for, to buy enough drinks for our elected representatives to disgrace themselves with at international forums, now there's a bloke on minimum wage in a kawaii suit looking over some bint's shoulder.
