Sushi - I'm going to use Sarge's magnificent debating method.
Yes he is. Get with the programme.

The Taliban are by no means on the run. Thanks to your man George diverting men and materiel to his farcical pack of lies in Iraq, the Taliban are very much on the way back in most areas outside the heavily-fortified Green Zone. Less than 15% of Afghanistan is under control.
And because of Bush's deception moving fighting forces away from Afghanistan (where, by the by, a chap called Bin Laden was last seen - any luck catching that fellow?), a secular state has become a hotbed of Islamist feuding, Al-Quaeda central, with the entire geopolitical area thrown into tinderbox levels of instability.
Oh, and it's not free to make FUBARs of that magnitude. So this foundation for economic recovery you're talking about? I'd love to hear some specifics on that.
President-Elect Obama's riding the rails into a whole cesspool of catastrophe, created and dropped in his lap by your frat boy doofus chum, and he's going to need all the luck he can get to salvage things.

Oh yes, that's W's legacy eh? Financial well-being. Har de har har.
Obama's really got a full plate, trying to clear up the litany of disasters Bush has left him to deal with. Good job W doesn't read papers - it's spoil his mood as his sits back in his luxury with his winsome Mrs, while his nation - and the world - reels.

Memyself - that's a good point. This film has been available on DVD since November last year. It's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser here, big name stars, pretty cutesy-poo and full of Abba songs, nothing anyone needs to think about.
So why's it taken so long to get here? And why do we still have to pay 1800 yen to watch an old film?

If the DPJ do secure a victory, all that will happen is the bureaucrats who have enjoyed generations of privilege and back-scratching from the LDP will simply refuse to cooperate, as they did during the brief DPJ tenure in the early 90's. The ruling party will be denied accurate information and timely administration, and be made to look incompetent by the LDP apparatchiks who have held the keys to the stationery cupboard since Japanese "democracy" was imposed.
The LDP need only wait until the tame media report appropriately, and they'll be returned within the year by an electorate afraid of being governed by their traditional overlords.
Japanese democracy just never happened.

I'd say the recent I Am Legend was a sight better than Charlton Heston in The Omega Man - what a tedious pile of 70's manure that was. Will Smith's was certainly nowhere near as good as the book, but stil a vast improvement on either of the previous adaptations.
Similarly War of the Worlds a couple of years back towered above George Pal's bag of nonsense.
And Nessie - Rome wasn't cancelled for profligacy - only two seasons were ever planned. Once Augustus' reign began, a period of relative stability and order got under way (The Golden Age), and although it was undoubtedly much less horrible to live in, wouldn't make for much in the way of entertainment. But I have to say the two series they did makle were about the highest-quality TV I've ever seen. And Atia of the Julii? By Jingo!

I see Sarge still misses the significance of the word "Illegal"

Yes, an illegal invasion. You don't need to go any further than that. It was an illegal invasion resulting in a lot more people left without limbs than anything Saddam could have carried out if he'd set up a conveyor belt for the purpose.
Illegal invasion is not a good thing, Sarge. Good to see you running true to form, though.

“The day will come—the day will come—when they receive the justice they deserve.”
If there's any truth in the Christianity Bush espouses when it suits him (although he tends to skip the "Thou Shalt Not Kill" bit), the day will come when he receives the justice he deserves. And there's going to be a spot of brimstone and teeth-gnashing about.

Anybody else remember the two stated aims of Bin Laden?
1) The removal of non-muslim armies from the holy sites of Mecca and Medina (Accomplished, coincidentally, the day before the infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech);
2) Destruction of the USA, not by military might (he realised that was impossible), but by causing its bankruptcy. Read the news lately?
On top of this, Bush's pre-emptive war "principle" has proven to be the single greatest factor in the radicalisation of countless young muslim men. Bin Laden himself couldn't have chosen a better recruitment campaign.
Utter disaster. I hope against hope that Bush will be held accountable for his actions. He makes Mugabe look like an amateur.

How can a man be so obscenely rich and so inept at dressing himself? He looks like he's borrowed someone else's jacket and done it up wrong. And why can't he smile out of both sides of his mouth at the same time? He's so wooden I thought this was a photo of a man and an old chair.

Did anybody see that programme a few weeks ago where a venerable senior showed us how to make rice well?
Apparently, you are supposed to wash it and then bung it in a rice cooker. Then when you eat it you have to act like you've never tasted food before.
Just rice. Nothing on it. Just plain boiled rice. It's so good it makes you do that face like you've just noticed you've wet yourself - eyes closed tight, deep sigh, nod slowly at the inexorable truth of the situation.
Then you say, in hushed awe, "Oishii" And the person you eat ot with agrees with you.
It has to be Japanese rice, though, as other kinds of rice are not unique.

I think the key is in the full title: Vogue Women.
These are the women the powers that be have decided have to be on the TV all day every day this year. Next yeat (fingers crossed) somebody else will be in vogue and we won't have to pretend saying the word "Goo" is an eternal laugh riot.
With a bit of luck it might be someone who doesn't need inverted commas around any mention of talent. But I'm not holding my breath. Gawd there's some shee-yite on the box.
