Asara - oil will not exceed $200. It's already dropped down to just over $80, the gas pumps are not reflecting that yet though.

I've been driving an RA6 Odyssey since 2002 - never had a single bit of trouble with it, it's stylish, took two seats out to give it a large interior, and unlike my friend's BMW, hasn't had to go into the repair shop for mechanical failures EVER!!

I like the look of the new Odyssey. The RA2 that came out shortly after the RA6 is just hideous - looks more like a hearse than anything else!

In these harsh times, I think Honda would do well to just load this car up with all the goodies - TV, Navi, Cameras, etc, as freebies! Then they might just hit their target, but I doubt it otherwise.

Too beautiful? Oh please, she's just one of the dime-a-dozen princesses that are in Japan. She ain't hot and I've not seen her do anything in politics!

It doesn't take a genius to workout that throwing money at the problem just makes it worse...the US should have taken note of how Japan does this and still fails to fix the problem!

I don't feel pity for them at all. If they want things to change then they should do something about it! Peer pressure, social taboos, social backlash? They need to say 'Sod all that! This is MY life!' and do something about it instead of moaning.

Good Jorb - seems to work for me when the cops question me for no reason. I just stand there repeating 'I like red marbles.' while rocking back and forth!

They probably didn't want to waste time with this guy, given that he is only a tourist and is likely to be leaving shortly. But I would have thought he might have been given a fine or something! Doubt he'll be getting a visa to come back anytime ever!

Hugharse - thanks for the link! That was comical and at least the BBC have the decency to blank out his face.

The line about the media obeying the obscenity law is hilarious!! I still don't know why they insist on Victorian values in blotting out body parts here, when I can walk into any convenience store where my kid is greeted with magazines portraying sex, nudity and bukkake - at HIS eye level! Another fine example of double standards.

As for the emperor not noticing, I doubt it. How would anyone miss 50 keystone cops, the media and a large crowd outside their house?

This is one place I would like to go and visit, but I have one concern: does it glorify the American way and condemn the Japanese? I know that what happened that day was not justified, but nor would I want to go to any museum that shows hatred to its foes as still being a current issue. If I wanted to see that kind of thing, I could always try North Korea and visit their museums which are geared towards nothing but hating the USA!

Chibaman - read the story, read the book, the link is in the FACT that crime is rampant in the sumo industry. As for worldwide standards - Sumo is performed in over 27 countries by native inhabitants. Sure, it's not a Worldwide championship, but neither is the Superbowl, yet there are professional teams in many countries around the world. The 'World Series' of baseball was formerly for just US teams - and even today, is still governed by US only rules (Next you'll try to tell me that baseball was invented in America, and you'd be WRONG!).

In the end this article is little more than a rant about discrimination in Japan

Yeah, and for very good reason - because discrimination in Japan EXISTS! If three Russian sumo guys being expelled from the country is not enough evidence for ya, (especially when several of their Japanese comrades spoke up about using marijuana themselves and they were told to be quiet), then take a look at the onsens in Hokkaido that don't allow foreigners; or try walking into some hostess bar where for them at least, the world hasn't changed in fifty years, and see how quickly you're tossed out!

If you think Japan is all roses and this story is rubbish, then there is no hope for you 'pal'.

The scapegoating of the three Russian wrestlers clearly stems from the sport’s dominant culture, which combines elements of xenophobia with religious chauvinism. Not only is sumo tied up with the remnants of the imperialistic Shinto cult that was defeated in the war, it also promotes insulting attitudes to women, whom it excludes from the dohyo as “spiritually unclean.” In short, the sumo world is a closed cabalistic entity, hidebound with arcane traditions, and highly suspicious of change, of foreigners or any kind of transparency. That’s the reason why this otherwise exciting sport continues its slow and steady decline. If sumo is to have a real future, it must break with the past and shed the arcane culture that once nourished it but now stifles it. An international ruling body should be established, with standards, rules and procedures that meet global standards. Judo and karate have done this; why not sumo?

AMEN! FINALLY! Someone who knows what they are talking about and not afraid to report it! The trouble with the Japanese is, they are stupid enough to think and believe, that no one will notice!! The three expelled Russians should sue Japan and the Sumo Federation for racism (made illegal in Japan in 2002), and request compensation befitting of champion sumo wrestlers, as if they had reached the highest stage of Yokozuna for the remainder of their Sumo life.

Freakonomics is a great book by the way...I read it last year and can't wait for their next book!
